13th January 2007, 17:23
Starts 11pm GMT
Australia (from): R Ponting (capt), A Gilchrist, N Bracken, S Clark, M Clarke, M Hayden, B Hogg, M Hussey, M Johnson, B Lee, G McGrath, A Symonds, C White.
New Zealand (from): S Fleming (capt), A Adams, N Astle, S Bond, J Franklin, P Fulton, M Gillespie, H Marshall, M Mason, B McCullum, C McMillan, J Patel, R Taylor, D Vettori.
I seriously hope the Kiwis whip the aussies. Bond will be the key figure. His record against Australia is fantastic so hopefully he can produce the goods. Vettori always likes playing against Australia too. He'll be looking to get his bunny Ponting lbw again.

i expect another easy win for Aus.

eh. I hope the group stays open throughout the series to make it interesting, and I hope we get to the final, but I really couldn't care less...we came to Australia for the TESTS - the performance was shameful and embarassing and everybody from the Northern Hemisphere just wants to go home now.

I don't care what the result is as long as someone hits Michael Clarke in the face.

NZ play their best when against Australia. Will be interesting to see how Bond does against the Aussies and especially Ponting. He has a good record over them. Either way i want Aus to destroy NZ.

why do you say that?any particular reason for the love?

He just gets on my nerves. Can't quite put my finger on why. Maybe it's the way he always bloody fidgets in the crease and thinks he's better than he is.

NZ play their best when against Australia.
They've lost 15 out of their last 17 matches against Australia :))

I agree, this NZ getting up for matches v Australia thing is such an illusion. They occasionally do well against them but that's it.
We haven't played New Zealand for ages - will be interesting to see how that goes.

Australia are our bunnies too. We've lost our last 8 games against them.

considering the gulf in ability people are surprised when they see Kiwis compete and not being hammered in their matches against AUS.

"I don't care what the result is as long as someone hits Michael Clarke in the face."
Bro is it any consolation when I tell you that the nurse slapped his mum when he was born?
P.S. I agree with your sentiments on Clarke. I cant stand the guy. I was honestly rejoicing when he couldn't even look at Gayle the day Gayle verbally bulldozed the lil kid.

Did us 2-0 in 2004 with a load of reserves. I don't expect any better on our part in all honesty.

There seems to be quite a few hating on Clarke here, me included.

Your all insane if you think New Zealand will win. Your clearly underestimating the international pedigree of our young wicket-keeper and world class bowling attack. Not to mention our frighteningly consistent top order...

this could still end in tears for NZ. Symonds +18 overs = bad memories of 2003 WC.

Hussey gone chopping McMillan straight to Marshall at point. 196/5 and Hussey gone for 20
Rob H
14th January 2007, 01:07
huge 6 by Cam white. A slog sweep off Vettori into the crowd.

Bondy bowling a load of trollop, and this over is gonna cost NZ the match.

14th January 2007, 01:34

the hat-trick was nice and all, but Bond's biggest contribution to this match maybe the 22 run over he bowled to White.

14th January 2007, 02:25

He can certainly bat, but his pull shots are not yet the quality of Ponting. Punter would have to be the best player in the world of that shot.

Taylor on 70 odd and over run a ball. When I first saw this guy in a 20 20 vs Murali...I thought he was a joke and couldn't play spin at all. Boy was I mistaken! This man looks likea pretty good player and a good find for NZ prior to the World Cup!

No wonder the Kiwis were so hesitant in their running - it's freakish throws like that that give teams the stutters. Top stuff, Clarke

how is it that McMillian always finds his way back in the team? Can't remember the last time he played well. Whose Bhanja is McMillan?

And what a friggin catch by Symonds

Mini collapse on the cards here, superb catch from Symmo to get rid of Fulton off Clark. 6-166.

That catch by Symonds was in the awesome category ! He jumped in the air, parried the ball and then caught it ! Inspirational to say the least.

Something not-so-new - I checked the Silverfern NZ sports forum (http://www.daimenhutchison.com/silverfern/smf/index.php/topic,18552.20.html) which I post in now and then and the Hobbits are bleating about being ripped off by poor umpiring. It's the same the world over eh. :))

White cannot spin the ball. He's even worse than Nathan Horroritz. He's tried so hard to become a cowlasher, he's forgotten how to bowl legspin. Even Symmo's a better bowler than him I reckon.
OZGOD
14th January 2007, 05:00
LOL and after I post that he flukes a wicket. Bowls the googly and Franklin spoons it to cover. I still reckon he's a rubbish bowler though.

I suppose his googly his wicket taking delivery as he can't turn his legbreak! :))

And that's it, Hilfenhaus takes a great catch at long on (I think it was Patel), to win by 105 runs, NZ bowled out for 184 after being 3-161. Great moment for Hilfy, given he's a Tassie.

I have my doubts over that too - Oz is well and truly covered in the fast bowling options. But with the great servant of the game that he's been, he definitely deserves one last crack at the WC.

He'll get there on merit, because of his experience playing in big match situations. If he was bowling pies, he wouldn't get picked though.
