How effective will Kaneria be in the rest of the ODIs ?

He didnt have a great day out yesterday but he could play an important role in the remaining matches ? or will he ?

We heard from a lot of people on this forum that he should play as he is a wicket taking bowler so he did yesterday but didnt look that effective - was it just "rustiness" or is his style of bowling likely to be ineffective in the ODIs?

he has so much talent that he can be dangerous bowling ANY length APART from overpitching it since that is why he goes for runs..

don't think that either danish, afridi or malik will do well - expect to see some more 300 + scores as the grounds keepers are probaly working overtime to make the tracks as dead as possible because when there is even a hint of extra bounce the ********* go 80/6.

BW would be smart to play shahid nazir in place of shahid afridi - as i can not imagine nazir doing any worse then afridis current 10 runs an over form ( that 18 run over to Zaheer and Pathan did it for me)

Sanjay made a good point abt DKNY.He will have a odd ball hit for a 4 but he will bowl lots of DOT balls and in the process may pick up a wicket.

He is a good player and if utilized goof he will deliver but they need to use him after 22 overs.

these wickets are just 2 bad for the bowlers and maybe we need to drop a spinner

i would drop kaneria and go in with 4 seamers and 2 spiners (sami,rana,razaq,nazir or rao,malik,afridi)

i agree. its quite pointless ahving 3 spinners on pitches taht dont actually turn EXCESSIVELY. drop kaneria bring in a pacer.

Kaneria should only be played in a ODI when we have 6 bowlers in the side.

With the ODI series between pak-India simply a batting competition from the start, Bob/Inzi finally got the message and played with 5 bowlers and did not drop the extra specialist batsman.

With 5 bowlers in the side, Kaneria is a risk we should not take. we should have Arshad or Hafeez in addition to Afridi and the 3 pacers.

The big question mark however is wheather Malik will now bowl regularly, cuz if he does then a case can be made for Kaneria playing as he may get you a wkt or two of the specialist Indian batsmen.

i think the spinners did well in the test series when the wicket was turning and the indian batsmen got defensive- however it seems like if guys like sehwag, dravid and dhoni decide to go on the attack against our spinners - they go for alot of runs -

i agree with waqas that we need only 2 spinners (malik and either afridi or danish) - and four seamers - rana, nazir, razzaq and sami)

I have a feeling kaneria will go for a lot of runs in the ODI's and will take only a few wickets. hoaving said that, a lot of people wanted him to be in the VB series squad and came down hard on BW and Inzi for not retaining him. lets see if their claims held any validity.

I didn't want Kaneria to play the one-dayers. Really for his own sake. Over exposure for a spinner can mean that they batters can start to read him better.

Keep him for the Tests especially as he hasn't done all that well in the hit and giggle games. However I think he can become an effective one-day player but it may be deterimental to his test career.

I have a problem with him bowling around the wicket. If he is there to take wickets (which is what Inzi has said) then you should not really use him as a defensive option by making him bowl a negative line.

I dont think Kaneria can trouble the Indian batsmen on Indian pitches. even though they are helpful for spinners they lack bounce and offer slow turn. the Indians will take full advantage of him. we need to put shahid nazir in there!!

MiG here is an idea for the next poll -

What will be your favorite memory of Pak in India 2005 ?
