So, Pakistan's last game. A good win will bring us back into the mix for the World Cup.

What kind of a pitch is in Johannesburg? and what are the records for batting first and last.

I reckon this will be a batting pitch since SAF is safe and wont lose the series, they will be looking for practice on a more Windies like pitch.

what are the records for batting first and last.
Batting first 434/4
Batting Lats 438/9

It should be a good batting track, with even bounce and the ball coming onto the bat very nicely. Not really Windies like, I don't think, unless the groundsman has a helluva trick up his sleeve.

Big scores likely here, and contrary to that last result, batting first is usually the way to go. Small boundaries as well.

Traditional Waderers "THe Bullring" pitch offers alot of bounce and swing and has been known to support the fast bowlers.

Over the last season or 2, the matches that have been played on this pitch have favoured batting. Who would ever forget the 438.

SA have hardly lost a match on this ground. Maybe one or 2 recently so bearing that in mind I would be very surprised if Pakistan manages a win under any circumstances.
Pakistan is yet to win at the wanderers if my memory serves me right.

They last played Australia in WC2003 on this ground where Symonds had a let off and made them pay. I think Pakistan will need to take all their half chances to force a win.
Management has hinted atleast 3 changes
Hafeez in line for a recall to open.....Rao iftikar and Saim (subject to fitness test)

big scores and small boundaries?? looks like we are going to miss afridi batting more in this match.

hafeez should play instead of rehman and bat in afridi position and play like he does in twenty twenty. maybe he should bat at 7.

Hafeez has to open the batting. He should go after the bowling he did in the 2020 where he played his best attacking innings in a Pakistan shirt. Malik should bat at 3 in this game with Inzi at 6.
Asif should be rested and Rao replacing him, also drop Razzaq if Sami is fit. This game will give Rana the chance to regain his form. Though the reason why i think he is getting walloped is because Asif is bowling with him and since one of them has to be hit, it's always gonna be Rana. This has been shown in England when Shoaib and Asif where playing and again Rana was hammered. Therefore i think Rana is only walloped when he has decent bowlers bowling with him. So in the next game by my reasoning he should bowl well.

Big scoring game usually favors us.

i think if the saffies win the toss they will bat. which means 450 runs and set another world record thus humiliating pakistan again.

i have said this before even with asif we have a seriously weak bowling attack which will leak masive runs to all top teams who will go after us like a greyhound chasing a rabbit

This is a D\N game right?

If so, then the toss would prove to be crucial. Lets hope Inzi wins the toss and bats first.

The D/N thing won't matter so much up here on the Highveld. It sometimes can even help batting second as the ball gets dew on it making it tougher on the bowlers and fielders.

14 of 27 ODI's at the ground have been won chasing.

SA have won 16 of the 21 ODI's they've played here.

Toss is not as crucial here as it is in other parts of Serth Efrica.

Pakistan will win this match.

14 of 27 ODI's at the ground have been won chasing.

That is just over half the games. Pakistan need to bat first because they will be chasing a huge total if they bat second and it will be a repeat of the first ODI.

encouraging sign. the last ground it was 20 out of 23 won

Pakistan should look to have a long batting lineup. Hafeez should be brought in for Rehman probably.

It will be important that spinners start bowling around the 18 over mark so that they can complete their quota by the 40th over mark. Rana would ball well in the death.

27 ODIS played on ground - 12 won by team batting 1st and 15 by team chasing.

Intresting that in last 9 odis played on ground 300+ scores have been very frequent and big totals have been chased down 300+, 400+ etc...

7 out of last 9 odis on ground have seen team batting 1st wrack up 290+

It seems chasing is the best thing Pakistan can do because i cant see Pakistan defending even a total of 300 in the absence of Asif.
