View Full Version : Why is Rana no longer a World Cup option?

I'm a bit at a loss as to why Rana is suddenly being viewed as a huge liability. True, his performance in South Africa was beyond horrendous, but are we forgetting that he has been our best one day bowler over the last few years. His spells in the latter overs, in particular, can be highly effective, with the reverse swing coming into the equation. In my opion, after Shoaib, Asif, and Gul, Rana should be next in line for our pace option, as the pitches in the West Indies will suit his style of bowling. And lets be frank, its seems unlikely we'll see the former three play in a one day anyways. Thoughts?

White Ball swings a many during the first ten overs: If Rana can control that swing, he can be most devastating in Windies and one can always ask Sehwag for that...

Rana has always been a risk but one that is worth taking. On his day can destroy any batting lineup plus he is one of the best depth bowlers in the world.

Rana complete lack of control and horrendous Economy Rate is reasons why he is a liability. It was just covered up previously because he was taking wickets.

If he was taking wickets, hows that a liability? True he had a horrandeous serious against SA but Rana is the hit/miss Afridi verision of bowling in the odi team.

I stated the fact when he was taking wickets his poor econ was hidden away. Now hes going wicketless his poor control and buffet bowling abilities are more visible for all to see.

it would appear that the only chances we have to do even vaguely well, will be the return to best form of three players - inzi, akmal and rana.
tahts really all we need, and i think we could probably do pretty well even without shoaib and razzler.
the whole falling out of form thing together with injuries thing though seems a bizarrely generous occurance with us though.

lol that india team was quite poor.
anyhow rana himself said in his interview after getting man of the series award against the windies that waqar was responsible for his success.

rana is a man with immense raw talent .. however is poor control and tendency to get rattled easily means that he needs constant supervision and adjustments from a real bowling coach (and not a cone wielding cheerleader) .

Rana and Mushy played at sussex together so i cant really see mushy having a negative effect on Rana.

but i still don't understan how the raw talent is displaced overnight. The fact of the matter is Rana had a poor series. How is Waqar going to help him out with his control and tendcey during the match. Rana is old enough by now to not get rattled when things are going wrong for him.

almost every athlete can benefit from a coach .. some less, others more and then their are some who are absolutely dependent on good coaching ... i think rambo falls into that last category.
