View Full Version : Amir Khan

SM
14th April 2005, 13:51
what do you all think about him? i thought he did well against kindelan in the olympics and his overall performance was pretty good but he seems to be getting too big for his boots!

Jahangir Khan
14th April 2005, 13:58
He has a huge following now and he expects to be treated more favourably after winning a silver medal for his country. He also realises that he can't be a boxer for his whole life and so he wants to turn pro asap so that he can get the recognition that he deserves aswell as the money. If you see Naseem Hamed, he was finished before the age of 30 so maybe Amir wants to follow in a similar pattern.

It also seems that others around Amir are trying to guide him but too many people telling him what to do might be confusing him as to what he should do for the best.

HAFRIDI

i think he'll turn anutha nas

Assara K
14th April 2005, 16:14
obviously nas is way better but inshallah amir will improve in time to come but i do think it is a mistake that he is pro so soon

Naseem was great and a real showman as well which is why i liked him.
I love Amir Khan, makes me so proud to be British.

'hated the Pakistanis at the Olympics trying to hijack him'

So you hate Amir Khan's mother then? His mother was waving the Pakistani flag.

Abdul Qadir 236

see thats not what i said and u know it!
i hate the idea, not his mum personally!
he is British, proud to be and I am proud he is too.

lol u can wind me up like a clockwork toy.
i might be from N.Ireland but very proud to be in UK.
Hash, how close is the relationship between Lib Dems in GB and Alliance Party here in N.ireland?

Hash
14th April 2005, 20:26
Gary- as far as my local Lib Dems are concerned.......NON EXISTENT!

Have not done anything for the national lib dem party. I suppose something like that would go through them.

Abdul Qadir 236
14th April 2005, 20:28
oh ok they mentioned it on their site.
ur NI spokesman is from here - Lembit Opik.
have to say i like Vince Cable - very good.
u confident ahead of council elections?

Hash
14th April 2005, 20:31
well in my locality I am it is 80% certain Lib Dems will get in.

Was traditionally a Tory 'safe seat' but in 1997 Jenny Tonge won it and held it again in 2001. Jenny Tonge is now retiring because her daughter died of electricution (dodgy wiring.......she had her kitchen refitted and she turned on the dish washer and that was that) so she is going to spend some more time with her grand children.

Abdul Qadir 236
14th April 2005, 20:33
yes i remember that, was tragic.
are u in the north east or south west?
they are lib dem strongholds.
many seats were safe for Tories and UUP but no longer.

raas u feelin orite hes not proud to be british i dont think anyone is! The only reason that he represented GB is so he could make a name for himself, do u think he would have got this much publicity if he represeneted pakistan. He would have just been another boxer......

Abdul Qadir 236

dont you dare talk nonsense about my country.

well u know where u can go then!!!
i dont even live on the island of GB but I am 100000% British.

SM
14th April 2005, 20:47
i agree with nufc. he's playing up to all the publicity - would never have got it fighting for pakistan. khan himself that it was his first choice but GB was better (maybe because of all the money from publicity!!)

Abdul Qadir 236
14th April 2005, 20:48
if u can fight u can fight.

SM
14th April 2005, 20:50
well i'm not doubting his ability but he should take one step at a time- shouldnt get too far ahead of himself. he just managed to win his fights after the olympics - hows he gonna make pro? apparently his younger bro, haroon is better than him!

Abdul Qadir 236
14th April 2005, 20:51
he should not turn pro til after Beijing.
money talks...................................

SM
14th April 2005, 20:54
he has said that he wants to go pro asap. his last fight is on the 30th of this month and will turn pro soon after with frank warren. we'll just have to support his brother at the next olympics.

Abdul Qadir 236
14th April 2005, 20:57
yeah am i only one who would rather watch amateur boxing?

SM
14th April 2005, 20:59
i like it in general. dont mind what i watch. cant wait for danny williams comeback

Jameel
14th April 2005, 21:03
Boxing is boring thesedays. Ever since Lewis retired and Tyson has declined, there aren't any great fighters left. Klitshcko is nothing and would be destroyed by Tyson at his peak. The featherweight division is a bit interesting though with Morales, Barrerra and Pacquiao.

Abdul Qadir 236
14th April 2005, 21:05
yes morales and berrerra was an incredible fight.
Lewis is nothing to Iron Mike at his peak.
go Eamon Magee!

SM
14th April 2005, 21:06
what do you think of danny williams?

Abdul Qadir 236
14th April 2005, 21:08
nothing special. caught tyson at a bad time.
lol who remembers Julius 38 seconds Francis?
Danny Williams mashallah being Muslim!

SM
14th April 2005, 21:09
he is a very good muslim and a very nice guy at that!.

Jameel
14th April 2005, 21:09
Nothing special. He beat a Tyson who was years past his sell by date.

If Klitshco can outbox him like he did, I don't think much of him.

Abdul Qadir 236
14th April 2005, 21:10
mashallah
is it a co-incidence Amir is Pathan and a good fighter?
what was Naseem? doesnt sound a Pathan.

Jameel
14th April 2005, 21:11
Naseem was an arab. He was from Yemen.

nufc
14th April 2005, 21:12
tysons a muslim too for those who dint know!

SM
14th April 2005, 21:14
what a great muslim role model he is. not. williams hurt his shoulder during the fight yet tried to carry on.

nufc
14th April 2005, 21:17
Boxing is against islam well he shouldnt be hitting other people in the face anyways especially another muslim! So i wouldnt say williams is a good muslim!

*** - it was aba officials that said first of all that he was too young to compete - SO DONT BLAME THE PAKISTAN OFFICIALS - same happened with haider ali at commonwelath games, aba officials didnt select him so pakistan did - he won his division BEATING INDIAN IN FINAL AFTER beating british participant in semi convincingly - he is a good boxer- get ur facts right

danny williams - some ppl mentioned to him that he may have to have his beard off before he fought klitschko but he said he would pull out if he had to do that - leave the guy alone, he is a great guy

His jaw needs all the protection it can get.

Waqar's inswinging yorker
15th April 2005, 01:00
he is a good boxer - had wrong strategy against klitschko - went in too heavy and also didnt really utilise head movement which is crucial wehn facing a taller man - a good boxer - he could easily be a world champ - he can beat likes of
wba champ - john ruiz(although he is likely to be dethrowned by james toney)
wbo champ - lamon brewster who is just average
ibf champ - chris byrd - he would be harder, is a southpaw but danny could take him as well

MecnunK

And was battered beyond belief by Sinan who is something like 11 or 12 in the rankings. I do'nt think Danny has the chin to survive against decent hitters.

Waqar's inswinging yorker
15th April 2005, 01:10
mec - sinan samil sam is an average fighter - that is problem with danny - one day he is unstoppable the next he just doesnt fight upto his standard - another poor loss was againt michael sprott, williams has potential to be a world champ. after all lennox lewis lost to rahman and even mccall!!

MecnunK
15th April 2005, 01:16
That was my point, Sinan is average and he gave serious punishment to Danny, knocked him down countless times.

I do'nt rate Lewis either. He got the championship when there was nobody decent i.e. Tyso was past it and Holyfield was already like 130. Bruno well the less said the better and he was extremely lucky against Klitschko as klit got his eye cut badly and he fights like a robot. Rahman and MCcall the crying boy knocking him out were some of the sweetest moments I have seen in boxing where Lewis is concerned.

Waqar's inswinging yorker
15th April 2005, 01:19
LOL - i laughed so much when rahman closed his eyes - swung and knocked lewis out - was great. A legend may be caught out once but twice??? in such poor instances - against rahman - lewis gave himself 9 days to condition himself and prepare for conditions in south africa and that is just arrogance

i dunno if i believe it or if its just rumours the source was apparently a "family friend".....it could be anyone!

Waqar's inswinging yorker
15th April 2005, 05:14
it was meant to be an arranged marriage - gary did say something about it

Assara K
15th April 2005, 05:19
i think amir is WAY TOO influenced by his dad and HIS decisions rather then his own....its fine that they obviously wanna be involved but amir should have courage to speak up and say what he really wants to do!

thats where all this becoming a pro talk comes in...

Waqar's inswinging yorker
15th April 2005, 05:21
well he shouldnt turn pro yet- he would get eaten alive by certain boxers - although signing with frank warren would mean he would get to face 30 easy opponents before he steps up

Assara K
15th April 2005, 05:26
i agree he should NOT turn pro yet-he hasnt got the expeirience once he loses a match he'll be finished!!

amir has alot of potential to do well in pro boxing....just not at the moment!

Waqar's inswinging yorker
15th April 2005, 05:32
yep - similar story to "amazing" alex arthur - won silver at amateur world champs - turned pro with frank warren - hyped as next big thing - won commonwelath belt - got smashed by michael gomez once and took him 2 years to recover from that to get back on track!

well he signed a 3yr contract wit frank warren - who i really dont like - he says he will take him down same path as joe calzaghe and hatton - i hope not otherwise amir will have to wait 30 odd fights before a title shot and fight south american waiters in mean time.

He isnt as talented as naz was but he can go a long way - doesnt mess about as much as naz did - seems to have better work ethic - if he keeps his feet on ground then he will go long way - but can he handle the mexicans - i say no - but he could win a lesser version of the world title - WBO
