Rio Ferdinand for 29 million.
nothing to jaap.
short of pace.
very indecisive
too busy drinking and with women to care about football.

14th April 2005, 20:17
John Hartson to Wimbledon for £7.5 million (spent 2 and a half years at the club......half the time he was injured, 25% unfit and only 25% of the time was he worth £7.5 million)
Rebrov to Tottenham for £11 million (was just rubbish)
Amjid Javed
14th April 2005, 20:19
john hartson, i remember when we signed him chris kiwomya and glen helder....
three top class ***** players.....
Abdul Qadir 236
14th April 2005, 20:19
Rebrov was a class player but never a regular!
Carl Cort was another injury crock.

Rio Ferdinand for 29 million.
nothing to jaap.
short of pace.
very indecisive

and when we knew market would collapse we still paid that for him.
we;ll gladly take him back :D
Abdul Qadir 236
14th April 2005, 20:25
Forlan was good when given a run in the team and scored vital goals. look at him in spain. fergie messed that one up big time. he is better than rooney who cost 27m. he is another one.
Faustino Asprilla

How much did Newcastle pay for Titus Bramble?
Abdul Qadir 236
14th April 2005, 20:35
yes i was against him from day1 and was vindicated,
one good thing he did was save at anfield.
who remembers 3-1 at highbury and 3-2 v Depor at OT?
Jameel
14th April 2005, 20:36
Barthez was ok. He was the best keeper we had post Schmichel. Bosnich and Taibi were much worse.
drogba isnt too bad. what about adrian mutu??
"syed shah - take him. we would win the premiership without him! or be closer to it. u can take his wages as well. "
knowing Leeds, we probably r still payin his wages anyway.
Seth johnson was a gud player when we bought him, though not for 9 million. And the money he gets 4 being injured all the time is just ridiculous.
Da Sultan of Multan
14th April 2005, 20:37
jonthan woodgate must be one of the worst buy's in la liga!!!
nufc
14th April 2005, 20:40
lol if he manages to stay fit for a couple seasons he will be a great, hell easily get a place in the england starting line up although englnad do have excellent defenders!
what about laurent blanc? leeds should never have bought seth johnson - should have let boro take him!
Abdul Qadir 236
14th April 2005, 20:46
Kleberson.
Barthez is not Irish League standard!!
Taibi was superb, 1 mistake and sold.
kleberson..do you lot think he would have been better had he gone to leeds? jamie redknapp maybe- bit injury-prone.
Abdul Qadir 236
14th April 2005, 20:51
nope he is useless.
Robbie Fowler 2 Leeds
i think its pretty safe to say all of leeds' signings coz they sold them all at a loss!
fowler i think had a respectable goal scorin record 4 us actually
Abdul Qadir 236
14th April 2005, 20:53
lol ur brave identifying urself as leeds fan!!
Florin Radicouiu
i'm proud to be a leeds fan no matter what people say. they will soon be back on the up - there are worse teams out there.

Just over 5 million

wayne rooney at £27m - i know he hasnt that bad of a player but when u think for that same amount of money man utd could have had ronaldinho and robben - IT DOES MAKE U LAUGH!!!!!! LOLLLL
rooney - utd overpaid there.
Geordie Ahmed
14th April 2005, 23:43
Stephane Guivarch - what an awful player
John Dahl Tomasson - to be fair to him many things were aginst him and he has shown in Serie A he is a good player
BUT one of the worst players EVER to grace the premiership is MARCELINO - Gullit paid 6million for him. This guy was out for nearly 5months with a Finger injury - - - - Thats right a EFFFIN finger injury and he was out for that long. what a useless cunnnt

Stepanovs :))) :))) :))) :)))
Also i wanna add this point before i go watch some TV!
Whoever is a having a go at Bramble does not know what they are talking about! Since January Bramble has been in superb form - JAB signing has probably been a factor. He has not put a foot wrong since then and the 5million we paid is well worth it if he keeps playing like this!
Instead of jumping on the bandwagon and talking out of your hole, i suggest you watch him play and you will realise what a quality player he is becoming!
Waqar's inswinging yorker
14th April 2005, 23:53
i was a huge cricket of bramble at start of season - but he has improved, played well tonght - boumsong is a class act and has potential to be next laurent blanc/marcell desailly! - good pick up for newcastle there i must say
Geordie Ahmed
15th April 2005, 03:21
Boumsong has been very good! shame he was cup tied, cud have done with him tonight! we were doing alright til Bramble went off, he hasnt played for over a Month so i can see why he had to be taken off with Sundays game in mind!

i remeber andreas anderson scored against man u!
Abdul Qadir 236
15th April 2005, 18:26

only Utd would get a decision like that.

Abdul Qadir 236
15th April 2005, 18:42
nonsense. elleray tried single handedly to stop us winning the treble.
united have too may divers and so do arsenal. refs need to use their eyes!
Geordie Ahmed
15th April 2005, 18:50
nonsense. elleray tried single handedly to stop us winning the treble.
Maybe that was one incident BUT there are loads that i can list that have helped manure!
Blatant pen when Howard brought Shearer down (Ref apologised BUT its too late)
Manure V Bolton = Blatant handball when they equalised right at the death
Manure V Blackburn = Blatant handball when they equalised right at the death
They are just the tip of the iceberg! There have been loads of decisions in manures favour! Ask any fan and they will tell you that

saha has been a waste of time aswel!
im fine Gary thanks, and yourself?
Man U REALLY need to focus on there midfield because realistically giggs, keane, scholes are the "heart" of united's midfield, give them each 2/3 years MAX-after that were finished!
the likes of ronaldo WILL NOT fill in thier shoes.....
Abdul Qadir 236
15th April 2005, 19:50

i agree keane, giggs and scholes just ARENT proviedin for man u no more!- im not too fond on ronaldo at the moment....maybe when he's abit older he'll be a wonder!
maybe there will be a positive outcome if glazer DOES buy united.....
Abdul Qadir 236
15th April 2005, 19:56
should go the irishmen who are right on fergie.
glazer would keep him meaning disaster.
CR7 is 100 times better than beckham.
rest are done.
Jameel
15th April 2005, 20:07
We need to sell Giggs ASAP, not offer him a new bloody contract. We can make a good 5-6 mill out of him at least.
Scholes is not finished but we need someone who is a similar player to him and can put pressure on him. By that I don't mean Kleberson. Some in similar to Van der Vaart.
Keane has another season left.
Abdul Qadir 236
15th April 2005, 20:13
Jameel stop living in the 90s and stop tolerating mediocrity, keane needs a hip replacement!!! the team is garbage and so is the manager.
rashid, until recently one could have mentioned igor biscan and djimi traore here.
Jameel
15th April 2005, 20:20
Man people like you make it sound so easy. You think Fergie can go out there and just get another Roy Keane? The guy WONT be replaced for a long time. No one will ever be as influential as him at United. Keane has done nothing wrong this season. He was in great form in the match at Highbury. The way he stood up to Vieira (who is twice his size) in the tunnel, can't see anyone else having the balls to do that. Whenever he plays the team is more determined.
Once he retires, you'll realise how much we'll miss him. We can replace Giggs, Scholes etc. But not Keane.
Waqar's inswinging yorker
15th April 2005, 20:25
JAMEEL - u make it sound like roy keane was a maradona type player - he can be replaced quite easily - many a player about.
as for vieira - mihajlovic did but in a bad way
Abdul Qadir 236
15th April 2005, 20:25
people like u should support west brom if u are so tolerant of failure. we are the biggest and richest club in the world - we should be challenging for Europe every season. just accept since we sold stam fergie lost the plot. no player is irreplaceable, not even our own geordie best.
Jameel
15th April 2005, 20:27
WIY Read the post again.
Roy Keane is a great player, but the the thing we will miss most is his INFLUENCE.
I'll say it again for you, United will miss Roy Keane's INFLUENCE more than his playing abilities.
You aint a United fan so you wont understand the difference he makes.

OK Gary lets see what happens when Keane retires. If you think we can replace him just like that then fine. Keep dreaming.
The only player who can come close to replacing him is Gerrard, but that will never happen.

Abdul Qadir 236

Abdul Qadir 236
15th April 2005, 20:36
biggest in world but we dont have a team to befit that.
p nev is better than keane because what made keane so great was his drive at both ends of pitch, now he can only anchor and p neville is better at that.
Jameel
15th April 2005, 20:37
WIY why do you think I was being sarcastic? We both know the great centre half Puyol (who is better than Rio) wasn't fully fit.
We both know Ronaldinho was too ill to play well.
Waqar's inswinging yorker
15th April 2005, 20:37
keane could still be a useful centre back IMO - in that case jameel - move him to centre back to keep influence but bring in an essien or a van bommel or even davids
Abdul Qadir 236
15th April 2005, 20:38

Gary put it this way. Would it matter what team we had? Do you think Fergie would be able compete with Mourinho and his millions anyway?
Just accept that Chelsea have raised the standard this season and no team in the world would have been able to have matched them.
In another season, our points tally would be enough to win the title.
Instead of blaming Keane (who is not finished) look at how well Chelsea have done.

Abdul Qadir 236

nope Utd have been pathetic Jameel.
the old Utd would have won the league this season.
with the old style of play.
management is not just about money but how u use ur resources. allardyce is a better manager than moaninho for me as is moyes.
Jameel
15th April 2005, 20:47
Barca definatley matched Chelsea in the 1st leg (whether that was down to Drogba's debatable Red card is another matter).
But in the second league, Chelsea were in control throughout most of the match after they went 3-0 up. Even when they needed a goal, I knew they would get it.
Besides I was talking about matching Chelsea in the league, not cup competitions. If we go by that logic, Newcastle are as good as Chelsea.
Abdul Qadir 236
15th April 2005, 20:48
when all is said and done, the Premiership still matters the most to me.
Waqar's inswinging yorker
15th April 2005, 20:50
can u compare different leagues - i mean barca have dominated la liga despite serious injuries - and in second leg - isnt bad to be winning on aggregate and getting completely out played as u put it - we got two goals back on them then we dominated them again - so overall even IMO
Jameel
15th April 2005, 20:52
True, United haven't been at their best this season. We have drawn way too many games and if we didn't maybe we would still be competing for the title.
But I still think Chelsea would have been too hard to chase. They've only lost ONE game and have rarely drawn. The problem for both arsenal and united was that they kept waiting for Chelsea's blip but it never came.
Next season I think both Arsenal and United will be more wary of Chelsea and it will definatley be a closer race.
Abdul Qadir 236
15th April 2005, 20:53
Amjad, uefa co-efficients are the way to compare leagues.
Jameel. Utd just done their thing they would beat Chelsea.
btw for this worst ever signing:
LIAM MILLER
Waqar's inswinging yorker
15th April 2005, 20:54
lpool and newcastle will do well if they add a few players
lpool need a centre half and a pablo aimar/vicente type player.
Newcastle need a striker, midfielder and another centre back
Abdul Qadir 236
15th April 2005, 20:54
utd need a team.
Jameel
15th April 2005, 20:55
Barca's defence is too weak for them to be compared to Chelsea at the moment. Thats just my opinion. If they can get a left back and a centre half then maybe they will be able to match them.
Jameel
15th April 2005, 20:57
Gary I wouldn't call Liam Miller the worst signing because we got him for free. But he is definatley crap. A flat track bully. Everyone thought he was great after he dominated the mighty defence of Motherwell and Aberdeen.
Waqar's inswinging yorker
15th April 2005, 20:57
jameel bhai - i agree on cntre half and left back for barca - Here is what they are ging to do - likely they will get mark van bommel on a bosman and he will play holding role in midfield - allows rafael marquez to play centre half where he is better suited - then at left back we have a few targets like eric abidal of lyon or patrivce evra of monaco
Abdul Qadir 236
15th April 2005, 20:58
Liam Miller is honestly not even Irish League standard from what i have seen.
Jameel
15th April 2005, 21:00
Van Bommel will be a bargain if they get him.
Haven't seen abidal or evra much.
Was it true Barca were interested in SWP? Do you think he could do a good job for them? I couldn't see him getting into the side ahead of guilly (sp).
Jameel
15th April 2005, 21:02
Anyways I'm jetting.
Salaams.
p.s. WIY is this the first time we have had a proper football discussion without the Manu/Barca bashing?
Waqar's inswinging yorker
15th April 2005, 21:04
jameel - what i could see SWP doing is being a right wing back in place of belletti - could do a great job as he is a fine athlete - they were interested - but they said they themselves want in summer
a left back
a centre half or holding midfielder(marquez to revert depending on buy)
attacking midfielder - to be a reserve - a winger preferably
also a back up keeper to valdes
Waqar's inswinging yorker
15th April 2005, 21:05
allah hafiz - yes i agree jameel - how about putting it aside from now on

Philipp Lahm is class.

15th April 2005, 21:08
he is but i rate alexander hlebb as next big thing from that part of the world - germany have some great youngsters - laum it is spelt gary!!! tsk tsk, is a good left back - sort of like zambrotta - two footed and very classy and could be a bargain but i doubt he would be sold - evra and abidal are great prospects IMO.
i hope we get robinho in future
Abdul Qadir 236
15th April 2005, 21:11

I read a post towards the top and someone had a dig at Puyol!
All i wanted to say is that a fully fit Puyol is one of the best defenders in Europe, heck even a half fit Puyol made some cracking tackles in Ek Derby.
Last season when Real played Barca, Puyol was fully fit then AND the way he had Ronaldo in his pocket was amazing, i have yet to see another defender deal with Ronaldo with such ease!

Real Madrid hopeful of Woodgate return
England international defender Jonathan Woodgate hopes to make his Real Madrid debut before the end of this season.
Woodgate joined the Spanish giants from Newcastle last year but has yet to kick a ball in anger for Real after suffering long-term injury problems.
However, medical tests in Finland have revealed that the player's injured left leg has now healed.
Now the player will begin a fitness and rehabilitation plan that the club hopes will make him eligible to play before the end of the current campaign.
A statement posted on club website said: "The player (Woodgate), who returned to Madrid on Thursday, will follow the plan outlined by Dr Orava with the objective of being fully recovered before the end of the season."
Previously the club had indicated that Woodgate would not play again this campaign.
Arsenal's Cole: Chelsea probe hasn't affected form
Arsenal fullback Ashley Cole insists the investigation into a tapping up claim against Chelsea hasn't affected his form.
Cole has been charged with a breach of competition rules along with Chelsea and their manager Jose Mourinho.
A three-man commission has been set up and a hearing will take place at the end of this month or the beginning of next month.
Speaking after Arsenal's 3-0 victory against Blackburn in the FA Cup semi-final, Cole said: "I have played my heart out every game.
"I always give 100% whatever is going on around me.
"I am just ignoring that (the inquiry) to be honest and just getting on with playing. That's what I am paid to and it would be great to win another medal.
"If I could do that, I would be delighted."
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has already confirmed Cole will face Chelsea on Wednesday.
"We are on a good run of results and winning this semi-final keeps it going," Cole continued. "It is a boost ahead of the game on Wednesday."

Newcastle's Bowyer: My season over
Newcastle United midfielder Lee Bowyer admits his season is over after their UEFA Cup exit last week.
He told the Evening Chronicle: "I think my season is now over. I am going home now and that is it.
"There is nothing for me to do and I can do no more. I gave it my all tonight and my legs are in bits. But the rest of the boys have got to pick themselves up now and try to pull something out on Sunday.
"This result was so disappointing after we took a 1-0 lead and appeared to be coasting. If we had held on to this lead until half-time, I think we would have been okay.
"But we conceded sloppy goals and you just cannot do this at this level.
"However, to be fair to Sporting, they deserved it."

i agree with GA - puyol is in the upper echelons of centre backs. He is simply class - maybe not quit ein the nesta/cannavaro category but certainly nto far from it - would be in with likes of stam, rio possibly, campbell
