Why different number of test matches

I never really knew the reason for some teams like pakistan and bangladesh having 2 test matches on tours and other teams like england have 5 test matches. What is the sense in 2 test matches??? Thats hardly any cricket.
Why do we never see pakistan playing 5 or even 4 test matches?? I thought it has something to do with quality of teams but then west indies are playing a 4 test series with SA and west indies very low in the rankings. What is the reason???????

Pakistan have been treated very harshly in terms of the number of test matches played. On alot of tours, we are only offered 2 test matches but this is usually compensated by 5 odi's.

Since 9/11 and other security concerns in pakistan, touring teams have wanted to finish the tour asap thus they played the minimum test series of 2 matches and minimum odi series of 3 matches.

The lack of test cricket can have a negative impact on the mindset and technique of players. Players like Yasir Hameed who have played alot of odi's will try to score quickly in tests and might play needless shots or may be unable to bat for long periods.

Another factor is that in Pakistan, One day cricket is more popular amongst the fans and there is more money to be made in this format of the game. Often in test matches in Pakistan, grounds are empty most of the time because people are more interested in watching the faster and more entertaining odi's rather than sitting down to watch people defend for hours on end.

Maybe it's a good thing that we only have 2 test matches because most of our players especially the bowlers are injured after the first test match

test matches are played on reciprocal bases. There isn't enough interest in test cricket in Pak to play 4-5 test matches in a series. the stadiums lay absolutely empty.
therefore when we go abroad.... we get to play as many matches (more or less) as the other team did when they toured pak
