Talented Anwar Ali invited for Pakistan camp
By our correspondent

KARACHI: Pakistan have invited young fast bowler Anwar Ali and Junaid Zia for a training camp getting underway in Lahore from Saturday in preparations for a three-match One-day International (ODI) series against Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi next month.

A Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) spokesman told this correspondent here on Wednesday that Anwar Ali and Junaid Zia, a discarded ODI pacer, have been included in the list of probables for the Abu Dhabi series to be played from May 9-15.

The duo has been brought in after the PCB decided to exclude three players from a 39-man list announced for the training camp as the trio is playing professional cricket in England.

Test fast bowler Shahid Nazir was allowed by the PCB to play league cricket in England while discarded Test batsman Misbah-ul-Haq and Mansoor Amjad, a young leg-spinner, have also been relieved.

The spokesman said that the players told a PCB official on Wednesday that they preferred to play league cricket in England over the training camp.

Anwar Ali, 19, has been awarded a perfect opportunity to exhibit his talents in the training camp to be held from April 28-May 4.

The Karachi youngster rose to international limelight when he took 5-35 in a memorable Pakistani triumph in the Junior World Cup final against India in Colombo last year.

This is a step in the right direction. Definitely Anwar Ali deserves to be given a chance , but why Junaid Zia?

They should have called up Jamshed Ahmed not Junaid Zia,could it be a case of mistaken identity!!? :13:Anwar Ali looks good but i feel the ICC will question his action if he ever makes it to test status.

Nothing wrong with his action, other than the fact that he's a good subcontinental bowler! I'm surprised Asif hasn't been called yet or even Gul.

1) Great news re: Anwar Ali.

2) I'll wait to see what the 'new improved by 10000%' Junaid Zia can do before I comment on him

Its just a camp..Whats the fuss about him or that person or anyone.
They can call who they like...

Just coz someone has been asked to attend the get together, doesnt mean to say they are in the side...

Some players have left for the UK and hence they are not available or asked not to be available, especially if the selectors have the team in their minds already....

Giving some much needed catching practice to slip fielders, albeit inadvertently?

Junaid Zia??????

I hope his invitation to the camp is purely due to his performance (which i seem to doubt at this point). I am not sure why they have not called up Fawad Alam from Karachi to the camp? He is the emerging new talent and should be given fair chance, especially over Junaid.
Anwar Ali is a great potential. They should groom him carefuly. Also, Jamshaid seem very talented and should get a chance to the camp soon.

Nice to see Anwar get the invite. Not because I feel he should be picked for the squad, but because the invite means he's made progress since that U19 world cup.

maybe Junaid had a good domestic season but some bowlers are needed just to give knocking practice and build confidence of batsman. there are a lot of batsman in the squad and having 6-7 bowlers (who have a good chance to make the next cut bow to them will mean 30 some overs each. and even bowlers have to have a batting session too

Sure i've seen him bowl when playing for the under19's where he tore through the Indians!! :14: Certainly i know what i chucker is,one who throws the ball instead of bowling it like Murali!.Not saying AA is a chucker but feel the ICC will turn him into one!

Anwar Ali a chucker? :)))

This is a new dawn. In the past, we fans have waited until our cricketers have ended their careers before we rip into them.

But now - we'll do it before they've played a game for Pakistan.

He hasn't developed a good out swinger. He has a ball which keeps it's line rather than swinging outwards.

ye exactly Wazeeri, thts wat i was thinking tht anwer ali does'nt bowl n outswinger at all. he jus tends to bowl varying level of inswingers (pitched up, short), so in tht he's pretty one-dimensional. id ask him to prolly be more innovative and come bak when hes a complete bowler, atm hes quite similar to ntini, who always get thrashed about by everyone except pak. id call for jamshed ahmed, hes a better bowler, still reminds me to wasim everytime i c him. as fer junaid zia, hes jus another tried-n-tested player who jus deserves the boot.

About time. Its good to see that Pakistan has given these youngsters the opportunity. I think England should also adopt the same method by allowing some of the younger talents to come onto the scene. Broad, should be played much more often.

England do have a tendency to try to mature the players, but they seem to forget.....they are not cheese. Bring them in, they will try to impress, which means they will put that extra effort in.

Good decision

HeHeHe, I am over the moon cause we need a 'Nazar Batoo' in our team...so that our team is never jinxed!

BTW, the BD news agency described him as the 'BOLD Headed Pacer' instead of the Bald Headed Pacer...now that is another way of looking at his 'Shinning Tomb' :))) :)))

The youngesters should get chance in pakistan cricket team. The senior players should n't continue the same style. The rotation of players is a good sign of every team not only pakistan so the fast bowler Anwar to be invited.
