Barcelona's Txiki Beguiristain has refused to be drawn on the latest round of transfer speculation surrounding the club.
Barca, along with Real Madrid, were linked with a move for Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy on Wednesday with defender Carles Puyol tipped to move in the opposite direction.
Rumours over rather more probable-sounding moves for Mark van Bommel and Michael Ballack have also refused to go away, but Beguiristain would give nothing away.
The Catalans' director of sport insisted the club were focusing fully on clinching the Spanish league title and had not started to resolve their summer transfer activity.
"It's normal at this time of the season that the papers publish names that could interest us, but we are not closing any transfers," he told skysports.com.
"We are concentrated on winning La Liga.
"They are simply rumours and Barcelona only speaks about realities."

BALLACK WOULD BE GREAT - BUT PUYOL TO MAN UTD - I TELL U WHAT I THINK

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

HE is the life/soul of the side, the rock - he runs that defence- such a great defender - if man utd get him - IT WOULD BE A DISGRACE - i wouldnt trade puyol for van nistelerooy/rooney/ronaldo - for all 3 i still wouldnt trade puyol. I hope cruyff steps in and does something - i so hope laporta sees sense. Inshallah puyol will refuse the move as he has done in past - but bloody man utd wont give up on him

he is that important to us - how they could even consider it is beyond me - he would be the last player i would consider selling and yes that includes ronnyd in the list - puyol is club captain - leads from the front, very brave and is a phenom at the back - with some buys in defence we will be complete

Ruud aint going anywhere. He's already said in the past that he doesn't want to join Barca. Fergie would never sell him anyway.

I wouldn't trade him for Puyol thats for sure. If we're gonna get a defender we should aim higher than Puyol.

Real Madrid are ready to offer Michael Owen as bait in a bid to land Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy.

According to The Sun, sources in Spain say Real are ready to offer the former Liverpool hitman in a bid to prise Dutch ace van Nistelrooy away from Old Trafford.

The Spanish giants are confirmed long-term admirers of van Nistelrooy, who has struggled to regain top form since returning from an Achilles injury in February.

And now they are poised to test the waters again, this time with Owen offered as part of the deal.

The England ace has not been a first-team fixture at the Bernabeu this season, but has scored regularly when included and has played a big part in Real's recent title push.

Van Nistelrooy's agent Rodger Linse has reportedly quoted a fee of £12m for the striker, who joined United for around £19m from PSV in the summer of 2001

-------------------------------------------------

These stories are bull. Are Real really stupid enough to think that we would trade Ruud for Owen?

Please tell me why United would want Owen when we already have enough class strikers? Owen would struggle to make the United bench.

Real have wanted Ruud for ages, but he has told them he doesn't want to join them. They can't take a hint.

Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o has revealed he turned down an offer to sign for Liverpool last summer.
The Cameroonian has proved a smash hit at Barca this term following his transfer from Mallorca.
He has notched 21 goals for the Catalans and spearheaded their push for a first league title in five years.
His move to Camp Nou last summer was initially blocked by former employers Real Madrid who were loathe to see the hit-man switch to their arch rivals.
However, Eto'o has now claimed that Liverpool also made an attempt to hijack Barca's bid by tabling a lucrative offer to take him to Anfield.
The African star is adamant, though, that he could not have been swayed from the switch to Barca that his heart desired.
"Although they (Liverpool) offered me €6 million a season, there are more important things than money," he told El Mundo Deportivo.
"Happiness does not have a price. You can't buy someone's happiness.
"I know because I left a place in which I did not laugh much, where everything seemed grey (he added in reference to Real Madrid)."
The striker revealed light-heartedly that another factor in his decision had been England's unpredictable climate, concluding: "Everyone knows about the weather they have in England!"

I think you missed a zero next to the 3.

I can name plenty of defenders better than him. Nesta, Stam, Cannavaro, Rio, Terry (and plenty more) are all ahead of him.

And by the way, I said Puyol was decent, what more do you want??? You make him sound like a Pele-type player.

And if he goes, your defence is finished. At the moment they concede 3-4 goals a match. If he leaves they'll concede 5-6 goals a match.

And I (meaning me) retaliate (meaning respond/give an answer) by saying

This Arsenal team is virtually (as in almost) identical (as in the same) to the one from the previous (as in last) season.

If the team was invincible, they can't lose their invincibility (as in ability to be invincible) just like that.

WOW! I am impressed. It must have taken you an eternity (as in a long time) to come up with that conclusion (as in judgement)

Waqar's inswinging yorker
23rd April 2005, 20:00
NOT REALLY - just spelling it out to u - so the theory that man utd are in decline has been strengthened and to dispell( refute i.e. prove u wrong/put u right) what u said earlier

Jameel
23rd April 2005, 20:02
United in decline? :O WOW. I've never heard that one before.

Waqar's inswinging yorker

Positive. That came as quite a shock.

23rd April 2005, 20:08
really? so ur in decline and still the biggest?

Jameel
23rd April 2005, 20:10
Well if we are in decline and still the biggest, it says a lot about the size of United.

p.s. I never actually said we were in decline. Are you seeing what you want to see again?

Waqar's inswinging yorker

You could look at like that, but as usual you are seeing what you want to see.

Amjid Arsenal will be the ones giving the regards. What you getting chuffed about? You think finishing second is a massive achievement?? Man you Arrse fans have got some pretty low expectations.

If United finished second I'd still consider it a failure. Anway, if you do finish second, CONGRATS. Don't party too much Amjid.

did i say Arsenal finishing 2nd was an achievement? NO. so take it easy with ur comments as ive not made any celebration type comments.

this season has been a failure. however, realisticlaly after winning league unbeaten last year arsenal cudnt really top that achievement.

-----
as far as united go... there NOT in decline?

so finishing 3rd for third time in 4 seasons isnt a decline after winning the league for fun for a decade?

seems u have problems admitting that united are struggling to replicate the superb high standards they set for a decade....

To me that is a decline!

Here we go again, people putting words in my mouth. I never actually said United are not in decline. Check the posts if you don't believe me. Whether I believe that or not is a different matter. Thats not what I came in this thread to discuss.

Amjid Javed

chelsea have been superb this season, yes they have spent millions. but they have shown consistancy to win the league. sumat arsena;/united havent all season.

As an Arsenal fan we cud finish league with 80+ points and still finish 2nd. just shows how good chelsea have been this season. No team whose finished 2nd has ever got more than 80 points in a 38 game prem season. However to not win league is major dissapointment

And you make a story out of one comment? The way you generalize all United fans are pathetic. Yes there are many glory hunters, I never denied that. Its natural with the club that is winning trophies. Now many wil start supporting Chelsea. But believe it or not, there are people who have supported United before they began winning.

He never shyed away from that coward Vieira (who thought he was hard picking on GARY NEVILLE) in the tunnel at highbury did he?

he was simply telling gary neville not to swear at lil kids and not to kick the ball in their faces....!

disgusting behaviour. i feel sorry for that 6 yr old everton fan.. just went to watch football and was being abused by a so called proffesional footballed... disgusting!

Chelsea can't buy EVERYONE can they? Don't worry about them. They'll have their own transfer targets and we'll have ours.

Yeah what Neville did was wrong. But lets not forget that the Arsenal match was in Feb way before any of this.

Face it. Vieira is a coward who tries to bully midgits like Neville. When people like Keane stand up to him he backs off.

This is your great captain who leads from the front.

Lets see who they get in the summer then.

I don't care if they don't get big names if they can get players like Heinze. Everyone laughed at him before he even played for United but he has been our player of the season.

It's not all about attracting big names. Big names like Veron were supposed to be great for us.

Besides, I think we can still attract top players.

Amjid Javed

united need a decent keeper to start with they are most likely to get frey because he has said he will be leaving his club at the end of the season. They should also get rid of the $hity players for e.g giggs, fletcher, bellion etc etc

vieira? was at milan

i take exception to those two as their talents were obviously evident - that is why they were playing for these clubs - wenger moulded them though

Jameel
23rd April 2005, 20:58
Yeah I saw that game and he was amazing. I think he's saved 3 penalties in a row recently.

United are being linked with nearly every keeper around. I doubt they would go for Reina.

Amjid Javed
23rd April 2005, 20:59
look at players now - toure, senderos, van persie, owusu obeye etc..

all players who are young and cheap and can be moulded for years to come rather than spending loads on just 1 player.
