GA - i mean it is very hard to say who is better out of MJ and Shaq but for me shaq was so unique - ppl now like allen iverson have said shaq is the greates - hmmm it is hard but i would go along with iverson and others

Geordie Ahmed

The only thing that lets him down is he CANT SCORE FREE THROWS - BUT Shaq has other advantages!

Jordan had a massive impact on Basketball, an impact no one will ever match!

shaq certainly made quite an entrance - slam dunking and smashing the backboards - glass everywhere - one word WOW.

Civil

guys the raps aint second rate just wait till next season lol

and the once Air Canada Carter for your info was a cry baby whiner who had stopped dunking for the past few seasons cause he thought he was too pretty , and got his mom to bad mouth players in his place. He also admitted to not giving 100 Percent all the time.

to think all the money i spent on season tix to watch hiim sit on the sidelines with a suit

Trust me it was getting too much, and the nets aint ever gonna go anywhere. J KIdd wants out

Can someone give me a brief summary of how this works? are they like a knock-out?

how often do players switch teams?

any one here buy season tickets? do they include the play-offs?

Civil

Marooned the playoffs involve the top 8 teams from each conference (east and west) depending on the teams geographic location

anyways it involves 4 rounds

in the first round the teams in each conference face each other in a best of 7 series

(for each conference)
1 vs. 8
2 vs. 7
3. vs. 6
4 vs 5

with the top 4 teams in each conference getting home advantage ( 4 out of 7 possible games in their building)

whoever wins 4 games in the series advances to the next stage and so on until there is one team left in each conference who face in the final (once again best of 7) for the Larry O'brien trophy.

Season tickets don't involve play offs but the season ticket holders get reserved first choice in buying tickets for the playoffs. atleast in Toronto.

The players switch teams quite often these days as there are salary cap restrictions and so on.

thanks civil! I am taking a sports and econ course and this sort of info is quite relevant.

I assume buying a season ticket means you can watch any game in the season? You are assigned a seat in particular?

Civil
25th April 2005, 02:03
Yup

however it is very rare that just one person will buy season tickets

Usually Companies and firms such as my father's or groups will buy and divide them amongst employees and friends.

I don't know if this will be relevant to your course but when people measure a North American Sports franchises viability the first thing they look at usually is the amount of season ticket sales.

it is relevant...thanks

nba has different franchises? ie teams?

similar to NFL in that regards - they both have salary caps - although these are artificial as owners just give players huge signing bonuses and then pay less waged. Also they employ a base salary system - i.e. the wage increases bu a certain % each year - so teams like handing out 10 yr deals as in short term they pay very little

£20 over 5 years isnt paid as £4m each year - could pay signing bonus of £5m and then pay £5m in final year - so in first year u pay hardly anything!

it's helpful. But how many teams are owned by a franchise?

Waqar's inswinging yorker
25th April 2005, 02:30
bhai - teams are a franchise - e.g. in nfl minnesota has a franchise - the vikings miami have a franchise - the dolphins - that is where the term franchise is used

on the vince carter topic ~ most people just see the highlights and think the guy is just unbelievable. VC had great potential and toronto gave him everything the guy wanted, the ownership bent over backwards and even got rid of players he didn't like. but far too often he would go for the fancy fade-aways rather than the straight up jump shot or drive to the rim. people in toronto were extremely frustrated with him by the time he left, and i won't be a bit surprised that the same will happen in New Jersey once the honeymoon is over. He lacks heart and toughness. its a character flaw, won't hold it against him, we were just expecting too much.
