Especially with news that Harry Kewell is available...the worst buy of LFCs recent history!

Interesting...if LFC win, they may get Everton's 4th spot in the CHamps Lg for next year!!!

Think about this.

Everton finish in 4th Champions League spot, BUT Liverpool win the Chamions League (unlikely, but we are just being hopeful/hypothetical).

Liverpool would go to next years Champions League, with Chelsae/ManUre/Arsenal.

Max 4 sides per league...Toffee Blues miss out!!!

That would be sweet for the red half of Merseyside!!!

That is a possibilty. It is possible that we miss out even if we win it! Apparently UEFA are very tight about CL spots!

IF lpool win the european cup and everton finish fourth. IT IS DOWN TO THE FA to select who goes into CL and which of the sides goes into uefa cup - and as rick parry is well in at the FA - i wonder who he is gonna pick? Thi happened in spain i think in 1999 - real madrid won european cup - finished fifth - zaragoza finished fourth - uefa told the FA there to pick - they chose real madrid.

But uefa gave a hint that they would prefer seeing teh fourth place side get the nod so who knows

Uefa has rejected any overtures from the Football Association for an extra Champions League place next season.
The FA said it had "begun discussions" for a fifth place if Liverpool win this year's competition and fail to qualify through a top four league finish.

Everton are currently favourites to pip the Reds to fourth in the Premiership.

"The country has to decide between the fourth-placed (domestic league) team or the title holders (of the European Cup)," said a Uefa spokesman.

Spain were faced with the same dilemma five years ago and opted to allow European Cup holders Real Madrid - who finished fifth in the Primera Liga - to defend their title and entered fourth-placed Real Zaragoza in the Uefa Cup.

Uefa chief executive Lars-Christer Olsson told Monday's Daily Express: "There is no way England can have more than four teams so we would refer it to the English FA to make the decision if it arises.

"But normally I would say that it's more important if you are qualified through your national league position than if you have won the competition."

The decision would be made by the FA's main board, in consultation with the professional game board and the Premier League.

Everton are currently four points clear of Liverpool in the Premiership, with a game in hand.

Liverpool play Chelsea in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.

Former Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri is backing the Blues to overcome Liverpool and reach the Champions League final.
Chelsea meet Liverpool in the first leg of the all-Premiership clash on Wednesday at Stamford Bridge.

And Ranieri told BBC Radio Five Live: "I think Chelsea have more chances because they are used to being in this position but they must be careful."

Ranieri, who guided Chelsea to the same stage last season, added: "Liverpool are strong in the Champions League."

The Italian, who was axed as Chelsea boss in June 2004, believes that Chelsea's attacking strength may win them a place in the final in Istanbul on 25 May.

Ranieri added: "The Chelsea strikers, whoever they are from Damien Duff, Didier Drogba, Eidur Gudjohnsen, Arjen Robben, will be the key to this match I think."

He feels that Chelsea are now ready to take the next step after falling victim to Monaco in last season's Champions League semi-final.

Ranieri said: "Last season we built a very good foundation but now it is Jose Mourinho's team.

"When we played against Monaco in the semi-final we had some players who were not in the right condition.

"Damien Duff was injured, Marcel Desailly was not in great condition and we were without Hernan Crespo - a lot of good players were not fit.

"My team was last season. This season it is Mourinho's team and now I am very happy and proud they are trying to win it again."

Chelsea, having won the Carling Cup with a win over Liverpool in the final, are also on the brink of clinching the Premiership title.

And Ranieri said: "I think they have the right mentality and the right experience to try and win everything. It won't be easy against Liverpool because they defend very well, but Chelsea could win everything."

However, Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher insists that his side have been presented with an opportunity they do not intend to squander.

He said: "I was talking to the lads the other day, saying we might never get this chance again.

"There are probably six to eight clubs every season who you would say could win the Champions League. That is how difficult it is. Now we are in the last four playing a team that we know well."

Carragher also has a warning for Chelsea about the second leg at Anfield next Tuesday.

He added: "I am delighted that the second leg is at home because if we are still in with a shout the atmosphere at Anfield is going to be something special."

But he called for caution in the first showdown at Stamford Bridge, saying: "If we are getting beaten by one goal with 10 minutes to go, that's not such a bad result.

"We don't want to be trying to get the equaliser and conceding the second. It is little things like that which can change things slightly."

Former Chelsea defender Marcel Desailly, meanwhile, paid tribute to his one-time defensive colleague and newly-crowned PFA player of the Year John Terry.

He said: "I am happy I was part of his grounding. He has been studying everybody and now he's a top, top player."

Overall, I was very happy with the performance. Gerrard had another poor game v Chelsea and Baros was his usual 'I am the Euro 2004 Golden Boot WInner', whilst forgetting he's only scored 2 in 20 for Liverpool.

29th April 2005, 00:46
I think Rafa has had enough and I am certain he'll go in the summer. The only reson we must persist with him is because he has been the only available striker for large parts of the season.

baros is a quality striker - not a LONE STRIKER, am surprised at rafa - baros is a bit one dimensional - can only play as a second striker - as a foil to another target man i.e. cisse would be ideal. At valencia, rafa liked to have a lone striker with aimar in support - there after carew he used a little striker called mista who was very effective and he obviously thinks baros can do the same job - i dont think so but i would NEVER like to bet against rafa benitez - with likely transfer of aimar next season - lpool will be a force IMO

29th April 2005, 01:06
Milan has been playing very poor for us for a while now.

He put in a brilliant header in yesterdays match (the one Cech saved with a save nothing less than a miracle) but that is about all he did. When Cisse came on he was much better. He terrorised Carvalho (I'm praying he plays the second leg) and the whole team played better after he came on. Also, was it just me or were the Chelsea players trying to target his legs!

One more thing, I think Cheski got ripped off by Marseille when they bought Drogba!
