I was just viewing the world rankings and its sad how Pakistan are ranked lower then Madagascar and Solomon Islands. I mean these are just islands with populations of less then 2 hundred thousand. Surely we have enough talent to at least be in the top 50 if not better.
I've seen loads of kids playing it on the street in Pakistan so surely if a few youth camps were developed we might just see a star emerging.
I thought of this topic because I felt that I'd never see Pakistan in the World Cup in my lifetime and how much I'd celebrate if that ever happened. So what do you guys think?

I opened few threads before on this matter but people are just too brainwashed by cricket here and who ever likes football dont even give a toss about thier origin country. Yes we are quite low in ranking which is due to senior team not playing any match for a while and Olympic team getting hammered and has effected the ranking. We have bright future, the talent is there, right people are needed in the Fed and right coaching. The current Fed members are the best we have had n could have hoped for after the past we have had. We have won 2 back to back SAF Games and hopefully will win the SAFF Championship in December. We have good players playing football across the globe, few in USA, UK, Europe n lad for KSA. So now we hope to have a coach within few weeks and lets get going. Your support is the important bit.

Bcz I have decided to move away from the sport as it is the main cause of other sports going down the drain in Pakistan. I do follow it occasionally but not too much anymore. Cricket is killing the other sports and we have to decide to give some support to others too.

The thing is, we don't have support from Pakistanis in general. I would think for football to really kick off in Pakistan we need a real star to emerge. The talent is there and if we can just get half the kids who play cricket to also play football, I'd say we can become a real force because we have so much talent.
The PFF is run by Faisal Saleh Hayat though. :|

Hockey was a winner in Pakistan long before Pakistani team won something decent and they were the Brazil version of Hockey but in green shirts and diff sport ;-) and the dominated the sport but Pakistan cricket never done that and I cannot see it happening in the future. Pakistanis do want other sports, they just need to broad minded rather than too much narrow minded and brainwahsed by cricket.

well how about countries like Columbia and other S American countries(excluding Brazil and Argentina) who struggle to make it even to the world cup yet football is by far the biggest sport in the country and some would argue that it's "killing" other sports! In cricket at least Pakistan has won 1 world cup made the final of another and have the 3rd best test record after the pioneers of the game(ENG+AUS). Even today when the team isn't performing at a very high level we are still ranked 4th in ODIs and 3rd in tests.
P.S I am a fan of these "other" sports but it's just totally disagree with your perspective that cricket has killed other sports while football hasn't.

Cricket was only played in Emperial countries but now moving to others but only 20 to 30 nations yet..where football every state, occupied ones too. So we need to give some support to other sports too..but cricket has large influence...we need stars for football...we have Zesh Rehamn....more to follow...

Thats how much everyone know about Pakistani football. Yes in Pakistan the top tier is called Pakistan Premier League which contains clubs from departmens, private institutes and private owned clubs. Army and WAPDA are the dominent ones in PPL and KRL have been finishing close to the top 2 for few seasons now. They have some good players from the national team and so doeas Army and WAPDA. Army won the league all thanks to Jaffar Khan where he concede about4 or 5 goals in 20 matches.
Abroad there are Zesh Rehman playing for QPR (before Fulham, England U17s and U19s) Adnan Ahmed for Tranmare Rovers (before Huddersfield Town and Man Utd Youth) then there are few at lower divisions Amjad Iqbal at Farsley Celtic in Conference and Shabir Khan for Worcester City in Con North. Another Centre Back Adam Karim who is 6 foot 5 inch played for Bury City and Bangor City in Wales currently in talks with few clubs. Ali Akbar another young talented midfielder just left Burnely after youth contract expired and will be playing for another club next season.
Raheem Malik will be playing in Welsh Prem League from next season hopefully and we have few more from Scandnavian countries.
We have great talent from Norway but only problem they cannot play for Pakistan due to having only 1 citizenship and cannot have 2. Few players from Denmark and Sweden too. 2 guys from USA, 1 playing college in Folrida and 1 for NYU.
This guy is quality, will be future star of Pakistan Inshallah, just check it out..

A lot of my cousins though told me that no one really watches cricket in Pakistan anymore. They live in Pakistan, but no one pays attention to it. People still play it and he also says that a lot of people play football in the streets.
I've seen some decent kids playing out there, they just need somebody to recognize their talent somehow, though.

few reasons:
- media coverage and if local games are covered the quality of coverage. Media has big role in promoting things but they also don't know how. Just the commentators (be it cricket or soccer) for local matches can make a huge difference if you are going to enjoy it or not. In USA the 3 big sports baseball, football and basketball - the college games can compete with the professionals in 2 of them and get the same attention and coverage. You can have 80000+ watching football games. Couple of days ago I was watching college basball (not as big as other sports) and it was more fun to watch them compared to professional game. They can show Little league (12 year olds playing) and even that is fun. One local channel on my cable even shows highschool games or low profile local swimming competitions in the area. and yes people are there to watch these events
- cricket can be played on streets but that for football you need a ground. the streets may also explain poor fielding in cricket
- we are not a sporting country. We can play the game but don't get much encouragement to get better or support not from the family, friends or locals

The Dag&Red player is Bengali from Origin..
This kid in the video used to play for Man Utd overseas Academy in UAE, his issue was not being Saudi Citizen and he couldnt get into Saudi clubs bcz of that especially at youth level as they have policies only for Saudi youths..although he has been training with Al Qadsiya his hometown club.
He came in top ten of middle east freestyle competition..he toured Mexico with his local club where they beat Chivas and Atlas youth teams and he also trained with their squads too.
Has got few offers from college teams in US but thats isnt wow and hopefully he will be playing somewhere decent as well as national team within few months

We don't stand a chance. But now with having some good players from Europe we can have a fighting match rather than having a defeat with scorelines of 8-0 ot 6-0.
We have Azeem Razwan from IFK Malmo,
Adnan Ahmed from Tranmere Rovers,
Adam Karim from Porthmadog
Amjad Iqbal from Farsley Celtic,
Iltaf Ahmed, (Unattached)
Asad Ahmed, Suffean Mahmood and Frazz Ahmed from UK (selected from open trails in Rottherham)
Zesh might still turn up as he faces some problem at his club QPR and being at the bottom doesnt help either.
But if we give Iraq a run for their money we can say we did a good job after all they are asian champions having beaten Japan, Oz and KSA.

We hope best ability from foreign-based players: Pak coach
LAHORE, Oct 19 (APP): Pakistan football team is hoping to exploit the talent of expatriates Pakistani players in their possible effort to make an impact on Asian football power House Iraq in the 19th World Cup Qualifier match here on October 22.
“We are looking for the timely click of combination among Pakistan and foreign-based players, and I hope they will provide their best ability, although it will not be an easy task to take on Asian Champions, Iraq and we are not bothered about the top ranking of our opponent,” said head coach of Pak team Akhtar Mohiuddin at a news conference here on Friday at Football house. Also present was Secretary PFF, Lt Col retd Ahmad Yar Khan.
Iraq football team which arrived here on Friday won the Gold Medal in 14th Asian Cup last July. Iraq , who lost to Qatar 2-3 recently in friendly international, will be looking for a win against four-times SAF Gold medallist Pakistan in Asian Phase (Second Round- first leg). PFF had arranged Model Town Football Club ground as training field for the Iraqi team.
Akhtar said that Iraq will be formidable under Norwegian coach Egil “Drillo “ Olsen. He is one of the brilliant coaches around the globe, and is the architect behind Norway’s long-ball style of play. Egil also led Norway to the World Cup finals in 1994 and 1998 and number two in the FIFA rankings.
PFF has also inducted six foreign players in the 25-players squad training under Akhtar, Gohar Zaman and Nauman Ibrahim. Besides Birmingham-born Zeeshan, who is currently playing for Queen’s Park Rangers, other players who are vying for place in final list to be handed over to Match Commissioner Michael John Bordallo (Guam), are midfielder Amjad Iqbal, defender Adam Luke Karim, midfielder Adnan Farooq Ahmed, striker Fouzal Azeem Bashir and striker Assad Ahmed.
Talking about his strategy about Monday’s clash, Akhtar, said that they would depend on mix ploy of defence and offense as Iraq is a very strong opposition.
“ We are down at 179 as compared to Iraq ‘s 65th in latest FIFA Ranking. We are eager to record win over them after a lapse of 38 years”,he expressed the determination.
Ahmed Yar added that a keen contest will be seen during the match which will be live shown on TV.
“ We are in good preparations and hopefuly we team will be giving a good performance, without considering the ranking of their fancied opponent “,he said.

Hash
22nd October 2007, 10:17
Pakistan football is getting stronger slowly but surely....we have next to no chance tonight against Iraq (even a draw would be one of the most sensational results in the history of football) but it will be a good experience for our boys to come up against the Asian Champions before the South Asian Federation Cup later in the year (or early next?), where we do have a genuine chance being serious contenders.
The PFF has done a good job in the last couple of years. Let's hope they keep this up and who knows what could happen in the future. Let's set ourselves a realistic target of qualifying for the next Asia Cup. The qualifiers don't start for another 2 years.

Guys I apologize for that, he was just getting carried away because of the GK's performance, mistakes the coach made in last match, the stream of live match kept freezing and then on top Iraqi commentator kept saying wrong name of our GK.
This GK was really awasome for Pakistani standards. Let me tell you something guys, 36hours before the squad entry list I was asked to find a GK as our 1st choice Jaffar Khan had gone with Pakistan Army for peacekeeping in Africa. I found this guy, and then he didnt have Pakistani passport. His british details were sent and then made his Pakistani passport and got him entered and now today he saved our skin and salvaged some pride vs the asian champions.
