australia reluctant to play hogg .. big mistake IMO to go with 5 pacers.

I think so too. Aus don't have a specialist or good spinner and Hogg is a good ODI bowler. They probably picked Watson for his hitting

Pakistan ridiculous celebrations after the Aussie match followed by the equally stupid intervention by the President and the awward of $10k to each player will go down as one of the most unprofessional and premature acts in sport. The winner of this 20-20 tournament (I refuse to add the words 'World Cup' to this sloggathon) will PROBABLY be Aussies or Saffer. Anything can happen in this lottery version of the game. Which makes the celebrations and awards even more crazy. The Aussies will come very close to winning this thing. The game today was won by Aussies by a knockout. In three rounds (overs).

Damn. Australia's net run-rate is going to be so much more than Pakistan's now. Trust Sri Lanka to self-destruct in such an important match

i think it was good step by giving some reward and now players will work even more harder to get the bigger reward. if you get $10k by beating AUS, imagine what would they get if they win the tournament.. again its my personal view

No it won't, the Sri Lankans played stupid shots and caused their own downfall. We have a middle order that i hope won't follow that route but the openers almost certainly will.

I think it would have been far cooler to finish the match against Aussies, smile, pat each other on the back and focus on the next match. By running around like they had lifted the World Cup (the proper world cup not this thing), and getting rewarded suggested :
- we beat Australia - thats something we didnt expect - rather then 'We haven't won anything - this is another game. And so what if we beat Australia? We're a top cricketing nation. We EXPECT to beat them when we play at our best'

Australia haven't really played well, it's just Sri Lanka were absolutely dreadful with the bat. 20/20 inspires some of the worst cricket I have ever seen. Nothing to enjoy about this game.

South Africa are undefeated, and at home. Surely they should be favourites.

20th September 2007, 11:06
Yea.. they will be until they run into ozzies where they will have a completely one-sided game. By the way India beat South Africa in South Africa in the first 20/20 of India last year. I don't think Saffers are unbeatable. All they need is little "hayden" treatment.
Milroastnescafe
20th September 2007, 11:11
Ha. But both sides are one-dimensional, with no specialist spinners. South Africa have a clear advantage in that they're undefeated, at home and bat alot deeper than Aus. I expect SAF to win comfortably myself.

MIlo, Australia does have one. They have not played him so far. Brad Hogg. OZ will definitely play him for sure.

Damn right. You just need to play well for 3 hours as opposed to a whole day, or five (in the case of Tests).
