FAQ's:

Q. What is Fantasy Cricket?
A. Essentially it is your opportunity for you to become a selector, and select players from all around the world to picky your fantasy 11.

For every run, wicket, catch that the player scores or takes you in the real world, you will get fantasy cricket points for your player.

Selecting a team is not as simple as is sounds, and it is not about selecting your DREAM team, as there are certain conditions and criterias in place to stop everybody picking the best batsmen and bowlers from around the world.

Besides it would be boring and everybody would have very similar teams, this way you get a headache like the national selectors and have to decide who to pick Lara, Tendulkar, Inzy, Mcgrath, Warne. You can only have two star players !!! :L?

Q. What are the Rules?
A. Try reading the Rules ;-) and visting the Fantasy Cricket Home Page.
Select Menu option PP Leagues/ Fantasy Cricket ... It will take you straight there ;-)

Rules (http://www.pakpassion.net/test/Fantasy_Cricket/Fantasy%20Cricket%20League.html#Rules:-)

A summary of the rules is:
Each Fantasy Team Must have
4 nations represented in them at ALL times
Maximum of 2 Category A players
Maximum of 3 Category B players
Maximum of 4 Category C players

Each Fantasy Team Must comprise off
5 Batsmen
1 Allrounder
1 Wicket-Keeper
4 Bowlers

Lists for Player Types
Lists for Category of Players
List for Players from each Country
Have been created so use them to your benefit :D

When Selecting your Team Keep in mind the following:
1. Fixtures for the month, next month.
2. You will only have 5 transfers at the end of the month.
3. Select your captain wisely, as his points will be doubled :O , but that could be doubled in the negative sense if he had a bad day at the office :D
3. Strike Rates are important in ODI's. A quickfire 40 is better than a ground out 70 runs.
4. You get 10pts for Appearance points, so select players who are likely to be in the playing 11.

Q. Can I still Join the Fantasy Cricket?
A. Yes, Anybody can still enter the competition. Entry is FREE, all you need to do is be a registered member of PP.
You will start to score points from the day after the day your team is recieved.

Q. Do I enter 1 team for ODI's and TEST's?
A. NO, you need to enter seperate teams.

Q. How Do I enter?
A. Make sure you have read the rules and looked at the player lists.
Then when you think you are ready, read the rules again :D

Then fill in the on-line form.

Select Team On-line form (http://www.pakpassion.net/test/Fantasy_Cricket/team_select.php)

Note it is your responsibility to make sure your team is valid, don't make the mistake of selecting a captain who is not part of the playing 11 ;-
) :D

Q. What is the purpose of the Captain of the team in Fantasy Cricket?
A. As he is the leader of the team, and to make it more interesting, the points accumulated by your captain will double.
So if he gets 80pts it will double up to 160, however if he got -20pts it will also double to -40pts.

Q. If I have 2 Players rated as 'A', and one of them is the captain. Does he count towards my allowed number of Category 'A' Players?

A. No.

Q. I want to select a player (i bradshaw) he is not on the list of players, what do I do?

A. Before the end of each month, any new players, or players you want, who are currently not on the list will be added to the database.
In the case of i bradshaw he has been added.

Q. I can't find Enamal Haque Jnr?
A. Double check the list, most of the players are on there, at last count there were 250+ Players.
The spelling of the players may not be an exact match. In the case of Enamal Haque ---> e haque.

Q. The scroll list in the On-line form is too long?
A. Each of the scroll list is filtered so that when selecting a batsmen it only displays batsmen, not the bowlers.
A tip when using the scroll list, is to press the letter of the key associated with the first name of the player.

So for example to find d gough, you click in the bowler dropdown box and press 'd' and it will cycle through players whose name start with the letter 'd'.

Will add to this list as I recieve more questions via e-mail or on the forum.

Marooned, I remember recieving your e-mail and updating your team, and putting it on my list of things to update it in the on the database as well. :)

I think problems with the server at the time the Fantasy League went live meant that team the teams are not upto date... Some of the new teams added are still not displayed on the web page.

I will make sure your team has Gough instead of Rao.

I will update it before the Pakistan Series wories, no problem.

Waheed.

PS.
Thanks for using the thread for the purpose it was set out for :) ;-)

but I will hold you responsible if Rao ends up taking wickets against this unpredictable WI lineup....:)

OR if Gough misses the series through injury or something :)

transfer windows is from 25th to the end of the month and transfers u select will become active on the first of the next month - at the minute an email based transfer system seems likely

Also 5 transfer each for ODI and TEST sides.

WIY, I will leave the transfer updates in your capable hands, if that is OK with you. I have not been able to even look at writing a transfer scripts with the problems with server...

So people can e-mail you with there transfers.
I will send a reminder e-mail to everyone registered on the 25th to notify them that they can make transfers.

I will send you the updated spreadsheet with all the teams before the start of the transfer period, so you can check the teams and also use the same format with the names of the players.

Thanks,

Thanks for the Info WIY

Let me throw anothr one at ya

Do the category of players change during the course of the game depending on how well they do?

Waqar's inswinging yorker
18th May 2005, 15:51
they dont - they will stay the same

waheed
18th May 2005, 22:05
Categories and defintions for Type of Players will not change until the END of the YEAR cycle.

Waqar's inswinging yorker
19th May 2005, 11:23
maybe someone like malik may have to be looked at waheed and some regrading to be done like sehwag

waheed
19th May 2005, 18:26
No I think we should stick with the categories from start to the end of the year.
Everybody has the same opportunity, and if they want to select people like Malik or Sehwag as batsmen who can bowl good for them. It is the same for everyone.

So there will be no change. Atleast for this year.
Only changes will be new players who come on to the scene, who we can discuss in greater detail before assigning there respective categories and types.

Waheed I had pretty much the same team as Zorawar (other than Butt and the WI keeper). So a different captain is the difference between no2 and no16?

waheed

Waheed I had pretty much the same team as Zorawar (other than Butt and the WI keeper). So a different captain is the difference between no2 and no16?

Zorawar Team:
b lara westindies a
r sarwan westindies a
g smith south africa b
c gayle westindies b
r naved ul-hasan pakistan c

s butt pakistan b
c browne westindies d
Captain: c gayle

Marooned Team:
r sarwan westindies a
b lara westindies a
g smith south africa b
c gayle westindies b
r naved ul-hasan pakistan c

a nel south africa c
Captain: r sarwan

After SA Series
c gayle 249 = 500pts
r sarwan 167 = 334pts

1st ODI
c gayle 64 = 128pts
r sarwan 12 = 24pts

2nd ODI
c gayle 94 = 188pts
r sarwan 20 = 40pts

Gayle: 500 + 128 + 188 = 816pts
Sarwan: 334 + 24 + 40 = 398pts

So just based on the captains alone there is a difference of: 418pts !!!

After 2nd ODI:
Zorawar 1917 2
Marooned 1444 16

Team difference: 1917 - 1444 = 473 !!!

So in answer to your question, In this instance the captain does make a big difference to your team.

Although Nel had a good series and got 251pts, the net effect of Browne (143pts SA Series only) and Salman Butts would have cancelled that out.

PS.
Since I don't calculate user team pts manually or individually, the probability of error is reduced significantly, there may still be defects in the software but they are likely to apply to everyone... If somebody does notice an incorrect calculation let us know... and I will try to fix it.

I am trying to make the system as open, transparent and fair as possible by publishing the match pts after each match so you can add your pts manually to check your totals... also can estimate player scores using calculating tool...

Marooned I was actually going to do exactly the same and select Sarwan as my captain, as Gayle's bowling has been poor in VB series and leading up to odi series... but in the end I went for him after he returned to form with triple ton in final test :) , I'm glad I did aswell !!! :D :D

1000+ pts :D :D

Waheed bhai,

Just some suggestions:

1. everyone should have same id number for tests and odi's. Maybe if that works for ease of remembering our team id.

2. You should have a link to the league forums on the PP leagues section and vice versa. I know this is a small thing but just to avoid confusion for new pp members.

3. Could it not be possible for fc teams to be displayed or linked with each persons own profile page? and maybe for ease 5 transfers could be done via online submission in future?

I don't know if these ideas are silly or make sense but just thought I'll tell u incase u can take anything from this.

Thanks

waheed

1. everyone should have same id number for tests and odi's. Maybe if that works for ease of remembering our team id.

Not possible to do this at the moment, as ODI and Test Teams are in the same database, and the way I have setup the database means I have used the ID field as the unique field, hence can not have the same ID.
Also from your perspective the ID's are not that important... and are likely to change as I sort the Database tables at end of each month to include new teams and sort them into alphabetical order.

2. You should have a link to the league forums on the PP leagues section and vice versa. I know this is a small thing but just to avoid confusion for new pp members.

Bot sure exactly what you mean?
But there is a link at the top of the PP site in the banner, which can be used to navigate to the PP FC homepage, and also used to goto the PP Forum League section... The banner is present on almost all the pages.. so the top menu system can be used to navigate.

3. Could it not be possible for fc teams to be displayed or linked with each persons own profile page?

It is possible to do this right at this moment, and something that I have been working on the last week. If you notice mine and a couple of others... the "FC Icon" appears next to post names.

To get the link to appear, you need to Modify Your OWN PROFILES, and in the "FC Cricket" field I have created entered your FC Manager Name.
Note in some instances users have entered a different name to there PP User name...
At the moment the link takes you to the users ODI team, I will update this soon to include the Test team aswell.

and maybe for ease 5 transfers could be done via online submission in future?

I am currently working on the scripts for the transfers to be complete on-line... but this is quite a complex area as User Authentication / Passwords, Updates of the DB have to take place... and is a longer process... I am sure you would appreciate the time and effort required to put this in place... and the potential for it to break down... so need to spend quite a bit more time on it. Inshallah it will be ready for the next month.

I am working on a 4 Stage Process:
1. Manager Logins via username and password (fc password)
2. Login Verified and User Team is displayed. User then has option to select upto Max 5 players to transfer out.
3. Team is displayed again but with the transferred out players replaced by option to select new players.
4. Confirmation Screen and then teams are submitted to db and e-mailed to users.

I don't know if these ideas are silly or make sense but just thought I'll tell u incase u can take anything from this.

No they have all been good ideas and something I have been thinking about aswell. Thanks for your thoughts.

Waheed.

Fessal you needed to type in your name, i.e "Fessal" not your team name.

I have edited your profile now and it should work.

Maybe in future and if its possible to do, it would be nice to have the facility to do our own transfers each month via our own personal fc page. Just an idea.

The points table for tests only shows stats for the 2nd innings of the match. Are the points for the first innings being counted or not?

Im talking about the table which shows points scored by each individual player.

Karachite, only the latest innings stats are displayed in the Tables for Players, but Points are calculated for both Innings :)

There is a TOTAL column which accumulates the points for both innings...
It is written this way so that I can use becuase I started with ODI's and then just modified the code for Tests...

Geordi your team as far as I have it before you have sent any transfers to WIY is...

Team ID: 25
Manager Name: Geordie Ahmed
Match Type: ODI
Team Name: Geordie X1

Name Country Category
Batsmen 1: m clarke australia b
Batsmen 2: ab villiers south africa c
Batsmen 3: b lara westindies a
Batsmen 4: k pieterson england c
Batsmen 5: i haq pakistan a
WicketKeeper: g jones england c
AllRounder s afridi pakistan b
Bowler 1: b lee australia b
Bowler 2: d gough england d
Bowler 3: r naved ul-hasan pakistan c
Bowler 4: i rao pakistan e
Captain: s afridi pakistan b

Unique Countries = 5
Category a = 2
Category b = 3
Category c = 4
Captain is member of Playing Eleven.

This can be found via the ODI link on the home page..

The link for your NAME does not work because, in your profile it requires your name.. to be entered. THE NAME that you entered when you submitted your online team.. NOT THE TEAM NAME. (I will rename the field at some point to avoid confusion in the future to FC Name)

In your case when you entered your team there appears to be TWO SPACES between Geordi and Ahmed for the ODI team... so that was also causing a problem... since the Test team only has one space...

So ONLY one team can be displayed at the moment...

I will have to correct it in the database so that the same name appears for both ODI and TEST teams...
