Well as many of you know im an aussie. And here. Ricky Ponting charges about $10 000 Australian for one hour or more of public speaking. I have been to many of these and hundreds of questions that have been asked have been answered that you guys would be interested with.

Also contributing to these answers is statements from Australian players in interviews. and ex Australian players in the media.

" Australia does not fear Pakistan at the moment. Australia only fears Pakistan when they have two major weapons playing well and the rest of the team are backing them up".

1. Shoaib Akhtar bowling quick and accurate
2. Shahid Afridi being destructive with the bat.
3. Yousuf and Malik supporting well as well as other batsmen and bowlers.

Some Australian players have been taking in awe by Afridi's hitting ability. And simply nervous by Akhtars pace. Also Malik and yousuf are highly rated by Australia but not as match winners, but as consisten contributors. The Aussies feel that the big two need to fire in Shahid and Shoaib for Pakistan to stand a real threat, aswell as support from Malik and Yousuf.

Such a team is more feared than any other team, be it England, Saffies, India, Sri Lanka etc etc.

Sure he comes into the consistent back up batsmen frame which need to contribute. But their main fear is Akhtar and Afridi in form at the same time. Which i spose is any teams fear.

Australia will beat pakistan with ease in a 3 match series regardless of the surface. Producing spinner friendly tracks would be just as stupid as it was v S.A

Stewie Macgill will cause more problems then kaneria/rehmann put together.

Pakistans best chance is to basically play to its potential and not worry about the pitches.

Pakistans batsmen will have to come to the party and pakistan will have to have pitches where bowlers will get some assistance.

2-0 to Aussies is my predicition.

I totally agree with Momo, i dont think this dude is Australian, i dont think he even step his foot ever on Australian soil. Anyway, I dont think Australian team is afraid of Shoaib and Afridi. I think they'd be more concerned about the law and order situation in Pakistan then anything else. I hope when they will visit Pakistan situation in Pakistan would be better and I hate this when foreign teams cancel their tours or refuse to play at certain grounds.

Im not an australian?

Nah just born in australia and lived their my whole life.

I love the Australian team best. They are the best team in the world and have been for a while. 3 successive world cups shows they are the greatest team of all time.

Ricky Ponting is better than any batsmen of this era, including Lara and Sachin on what he has achieved, 3 world cup wins. And a stunning batsmen who will eclipse all records, stil lhave anouth 6 years left.

Shane Warne is better than Murali. Shane has also won numerous world cups and he could bat unlike Murali. Warne's bowling was legitimate aswell. Now do you guys believe im an aussie?

Aussies can play on any sort of wickets.

If I were given the task of preparing wickets for the series against aus, I would make fast bouncy tracks coz the aussie batsmen will take apart pakistani bowlers on docile pitches.

Amjid Javed

Australia are number 1 in world because they have quality to adapt to most conditions around the world. Pakistan always spend to much time worrying about what type of pitches to make etc... If you play average cricket the surface is irrelevant.

I don't think the present-day Shoaib would scare anyone ..he'll implode after 2 days of cricket...Aussie bowlers can more than handle Afridi...Yousuf ,younis and Misbah are the only real batsmen in the team who will deliver the goods..

Monsee,

We played poor cricket. Banking on slow low wickets with kaneria as the supposide match winner was always going to end in tears. We should have played better cricket and atleast drawn the series at best!

true, very true. Unless we start banking on our fast men for winning us games, expect more defeats like this. Pakistan has always won mathces coz of its fast bowlers. Our batsmen and spinners will not win us many games.

That is an excuse at best...when have we ever played good cricket then?

We all knew from the beginning that if the Big 3 of our middle order were not included for all the tests, we would be in trouble...some like me accepted it from day one and some chose to ignore it thinking we will win somehow :P

Monsee

That is the point everyone forgot...we did not win with spinning tracks against England but with Flat yet supporting pitches!

And before anyone can say 'A' was there and he was the main reason we won...look up the scores in that series and realise that in almost every innings it was our batsmen who scored quite handsomely and hence allowing the bowlers to do their jobs without any extra pressure

It also helped that all bowlers remained Injury Free, after an eternity for Pakistan ;-)

well judging from the FEAR and AWE that members here hold australia in, i can understand why pakistan can never beat australia in series tests or odi's. not in next 5 years at least. it's mainly mental aspect nothing more.

How does talking about how much you like the Aussie team make you an Australian?

A normal response would be to say where you're from in Australia and what city you live in. "I love the Australian team best" doesn't mean anything dude.

I guess my main point is this. Both Akhtar and Afridi are match winners. If all the other consistent players play well such as Yousuf, Misbah, Malik and the 2 match winners play bad, the absolute best Pakistan can hope for is a draw. As Mark Waugh said, it would be nearly impossible to beat a team when Afridi and Akhtar both have blinders in the same game.

The Aussies cricketers are real ***** cats. They rightly fear the most feared phast bowler in the world who has just about managed to drag his carcass back into the team. And they rightly fear Afridi the Beast who has scored tons of runs against them at a beastly strike rate !! What more they have also started to fear his leg spinners. Geez these Aussie criketers fear a lot but they fear right. Good points by AussieCricketer on Aussie cricketers.

EDIT: Shoaib Akhtar has to prove him self his fit in the tour with India otherwise he might not play again

Even so they still might drop him

Yes currently like you said Ponting is the better batsmen, well NO SH** sherlock, every Tom, Dick and Harry is better than him at the moment, even Kamran Akmal is, whats your point ?.. No but he could have scored a 50 at leatst? Im not to sure what you read here in OZ. Because mark nicholas and michael slater have said if Ponting stays fit for another 4 years, than he is going to break all records. Also ian chappell, tony greig and mark nicholas also said that he is the second best batsmen ever, (3rd test, Waca, lunch show, vs England 2006).

Your going on like im comparing Glen Mcgraths batting to that of Sachin tendulkar. Ponting has won three world cups. His average is higher than Sachin. He is in better form. I have every right to compare the two. I think your the one who needs to start reading some books. Get some cricket knowledge and then get back to me. If we have it your way lets compare Ponting to Asif's batting?

Correction, Australia has won 3 world cups! Even players like Tom Moody, Lehmann, Hogg, etc were in the team which according to your logic makes them better than Lara and Sachin!

His average is higher than Sachin. He is in better form. I have every right to compare the two. I think your the one who needs to start reading some books. Get some cricket knowledge and then get back to me. If we have it your way lets compare Ponting to Asif's batting?

Again his average is higher as came a bit later than Sachin. sachin's earlier average in the early 90s has brought down his overall average!

:)) Pakistan has played 10 tests with Akhtar against Australia. Lost 8 of them won none of them. ! As far as Afridi goes he played in few of those games as well.

Now zimbabwe can say.. Australia is scared of zimbabwe when david houghton and tatendar taibu play together.

BD will say Australia will be scared of BD because hannan sarkar and athar ali khan play together against them

lol. Yes sure did. But that wasn't the same Afridi nor was it the same Shoaib. If shoaib bowls like he did against england in 2005 and Afridi plays like he did against the Aussies in the tour there, Pakistan could go a long way to winning.

Well if Ponting bats like he bats, Hayden bats like he bats...

"Australias biggest fear for touring Pakistan"

Could be the Lahore rosti. Especially the small one outside the National hotel.
I wouldn't eat there again either.

Brilliant post and I completely agree. It's refreshing to see a fan post acknowledgement of threat from another team. Also, bear in mind you're not alone in this, Afridi and Akhtar are often spoken of as talents that can separate teams, wildcards, matchwinners etc by players, coaches, commentators

Dude if he scored a 50 and India lost you will still say the same thing, anyway I am convinced you are not an aussie now, before i wasnt so sure. Oh yeah another thing I am willing to put my house on the line saying Ponting or anyone wont take out SRT's one day record :19: .....Anyone who thinks he can is on some serious drugs maybe nandrolone :P

P.S. Love_Machine if you are reading this can you please give us your thoughts on the Australian opinion when comparing SRT/Ponting, we have a wannabe aussie in here talking crack :P..

An internal Australian report that I am privy to has listed the following concerns

1. Pakistani batting - the power of their self destruction scares the bejeebers out of Hayden and co

2. Pakistani bowling - What if they bowl a wicket taking ball ?

3. Pakistani fielding - one of these days, they will field cleanly or take a catch or even - and heaven forbid - hit the stumps from 3 yards...

4. What if the Bus driving their cricketers, takes a wrong turn and ends up in Darra Adam Khail ?

5. What if Benazir comes to greet the team in her armoured truck?

such are the fears that the mighty Aussie team is facing on their tour of Pakistan - May God help them - the poor blighters !

When using the word "match winner" you have to take a few things into consideration. 1) Umpires on your side, 2) Having the best bowlers to give you net practice at the same time not having to face which very likely may tarnish your capabilities, in Ponting's case, Mcgrath & Warne 2 of the all time greatest 3) Having a team full of class like Australia has. Yes so under these circumstances Ponting is a match winner, however this has topic has changed into who is a better batsmen not who the match winner is and SRT is the better one if you compare "all time", which aussies do agree except for Mr. Wannabee here.

Actually I believe Sachin to be better than Bradman without claiming to be an Indian but since we're at it, Yuvraj is the biggest hitter ever cuz of one damn over and Agarkar and rest of our pace battery is the most feared toe crushing rib breaking reverse swinging 120 miles/hr quickies. Now do you believe I'm a delusional Indian? :D

Bradman is quoted as saying that Sachin was the best batsman he had ever seen. He quickly followed this with "Of course I didn't see myself bat"

I respect your views and I think Sachin Tendulkar has one hell of a record. Yes, things like umpires, strength of other members of the team etc, do matter but then a matchwinner is one who counters all such things and wins matches for his team.
There may be many definitions of matchwinner but I go for the simplest one. If I am the captain of a team and have an option of picking one of the two, I will definitely go for Ponting. Thats because I feel more confident he will win me the match. Not to say that Sachin is not a matchwinner or he can never win a match. Its all about the probability and Ponting tends to do it more often than most and whats more, he is a player for the big occasion.

Thanks, aussie. Merely confirms which Pak players do Australians admire - the ones with aggressive cricket approach, and the ones, especially in case of Akhtar - who have relatively performed against them (Shoaib / Yousuf).

The two - Akhtar and Afridi have been the favorite Pak players amongst Indian masses too. Afridi's record against them however been slightly better than mediocre.

I remember how impressed were the Australians after Akhtar went through their mighty batting line-ups in a suingle spell in Colombo and then in Perth - and also in the Tower Challenge crucial match.

Hayden and Lehmann targetted him for no other reason from the start of the '04 Series, as it's historically the Aussie cricket think-tank pysche to unnerve the main opposition threat. They did it successfully against Boje having identified him as the outstanding oposition player, when SA toured, and tried it on Akhtar. Another matter that the two Aussie batsmen were flattened and embarassed by Shoaib in his retaliation.

Ahem...by the way, has Ponting ever talked about Inzamam cop-out effect on Aussies? How the Aussies react when Inzamam has pulled out of Test matches against them yet again citing a mysterious back ache? :16: :20:
