View Full Version : What Cricket bat to buy / recommend? [Merged]

the season is about to begin, and i have a purchase decision to make.
what weapon should i use this season?
my ihsan crown is busted (sigh). split at the toe, dug out one yorker too many i guess.
so friends, what say? my bro just bought a malik sarfi so won't be going for a malik. options are listed below:
ihsan crown / emperor
AS G200
CA Plus or Pro
Any other suggestions?
If any of you boys are using the above mentioned bats, a review would be appreciated re: balance / weight distribution, grains, toe thickness, meat area thickness etc. etc.
my wife is in pakistan and will be making the purchase, so sadly i won't get to test the bat out in the store.
don't be shy ... all opinions greatly appreciated ... B-3

Of the lot I like Ihsan. Don't know a lot about the details but it just always felt good!

have to admit i loved my ihsan crown. but the toe was a little too thin, and with the crappy balls they use here especially in the nets, i'm having doubts about going for another one.

Are you in the US? I found a site which has some stuff (may be expensive though).

in canada. desisport? i've checked the sites out, won't be cheaper than buying it in pakistan ofcourse, but it does give me a reference point in terms of prices etc.

Gasherbrum

got it for Rs6500 almost 1.5 yrs ago. probably still around the 7 thou range. ihsan king would prob go for around 4-5. emperor closer to 8-9 maybe.
AS bats seem to be the best value though.

mb zulfi?
ihsan fire?
ihsan king?

i recommend MB Zulfi Malik- thats the one i use!
Gasherbrum
12th May 2005, 15:16
i've used malik zulfi, nice bat and quite fairly priced. probably cheaper than ihsan king.
ihsan fire, haven't seen that yet ... is it new?
AA do you use the GS200?
my bro used AS One last season, was really good except at the end of the season the face looked like it had been rotting for 5 years. also, the handle is now quite shaky which doesn't happen too often.
also ... bump :P
What is your style og batting GB? You a more of a slogger or a stroke player?
Gasherbrum
12th May 2005, 16:07
no slogging please!
normal stroke play with many glances to fine leg involved.

Whys that. A lighter bat isnt necessarily the easiest to handle
dan hudson
16th February 2006, 21:16
It's easier to get into optimum batting 'shapes' though and groove a correct technique with a light bat. Usually if you use a heavy bat you have to over-compensate and compromise elements of your technique.

better to be too light than too heavy though.

Hey guys,
I finally had a net with a local club yesterday (boy am i sore) but need a new bat. I currently have an Ihsan Hi-Lux weight - 2lb12oz. I cant beleive i used to use this bat because the pickup is really heavy and i could not hit anything in the net yesterday.
Anyway, does anyone know a good lightweight bat with a good pickup but has a strong middle and thick edges?
Any advice much appreciated.

If you want a Pakistani bat, go for a CA Plus - Can't go wrong!!!!

First mate, what kind of batmen are you, what kind of strokes do you play and what do you want to achive in your batting.
What are you going for.
Is it stroke play
Is it powerplay
Identify which batsmen in world cricket do you want to emulate, how heavy is his bat, what are its dimensions.
First identofy these things, THEN go for a bat, and a side note most of these bats are the same, at the end of the day its a piece of wood
ALSO are you a proffesional player, a loacal cricket team player or a park player, Dont go over board on a bat that you going to smash about in the park.
My biggest piece of advice is simple buy from Pakistan, There are some terrific bargins in bats and cricket gear over there.
I went to DINA last year, and I bought 4 bats 3 were pre-made, then I spent 3,000 rupee's [£30] and went to a actual bat maker, i selected mny piece of wood, had it measured, got it weighed and he asked me questions like do I want it top heavy or bottom heavy or balanced and I got it made, its got NO Logo's, buts its all oiled up and the best bat I have and it cost me £30 and no more,,,,,, if your going over on a holiday or someone else is just pick up a pre-made bat over in Pakistan, pick it up, check the weight, see how bakanced it is and you will be fine

Gujar pai, in simple terms the best bat for YOU will be the one that FEELS the best for YOU. Whatever 'brand' you get (and I've noticed some weird advise on this thread) you need to be there to pick and hold. You WILL KNOW when you hold the right bat!
ps may be you should bat with a cricket stump, for at least a year. And then after that what ever bat you use, every ball will ping of the middle...but are u dedicated...are you champ??? have you got what it takes...have you eh? have you?

theres a place on mall road i can't remember the name...its where i got my bat the guy is mostly an exporter but he makes the bats himself and will tell you which one is good for stroke playing, heavy, light, etc...don't pay attention to the stickers on the bats they're mostly ihsaan but he just puts those on there, which is another point i wanted to make, if you wanto buy a reebok bat just because razzaq uses it you're not getting the same bat, the bats are custom made they just throw a sponsor's sticker on there afterwards...but i do agree that some bats are good regardless, i.e malik, AS, etc

A quick question on willow. Which is better, English or Kashmiri? Also what's the difference between Grade 1 and Grade A or are they the same thing?
English willow bats are high quality, made from the finest wood. Kashmir Willow bats are usually heavier and dont have the same quality as English Willow bats.

CA Plus 1000 is an absolutely awesome bat - just the right weight and has a beautiful meat on it!!

So? Was it cra# or was it good?
the bat that we bought is about size 6 as it is for my younger brother but the shop i went to had the sher in different weights and sizes at the same price.
the bat has been knocked in and it has a great middle and the bat feels very light even though it looks heavy
the bad thing about the bat is at the bottom where the bat has some chips but hey are not cracks
Overall it is a great bat for £50

this bat was for about £135 in July and know it is only £99
but the bat in pakistan came with a trumpet style case with a security lock
the bat had a great pick up but was too expensive when the sher was only £50

My brother ordered and recently recieved an MB Malik Sher Amin from Pakistan. It cost 6600 rupees, although I'm still not convinced if its a genuine bat. Nice bat though and has a nice sweet spot.

out of all bats ive been using over the years (Gray Nicholls, MRF Genius, CA's)
favorite has got to be CA GOLD (Inzi's old one - the maroon/black one)
i dont think ive batted with a more balanced bat ever

Burney's bats are the best (local bat maker) I have ever batted with. I have got one and its an excellent bat. I have used Duncan Furnely, GM, GN, CA, Malik, Mids, KB and Ihsan but nothing beat this one.

Bat don't matter. The type of bowlers i face matters. As long as it's light, it's all good
I have recently returned from Pakistan (Pindi) and i got my bats from here.
i got 3 i got myself a big MB Malik Zulfi which i reckon weighs about 2lbs and any between 8oz to 12oz somwher between that.
A MRF Blazer which weighsa pprox 2lb an 6oz and a CA White Gold gold @ 2lbs and 4oz
also 1 pair of ishan gloves and 6 balls and bat mallet all totalling to £120.
i tried to but a Malik Sher but they wanted lke 6500-8000 for it!
i like heavy bats my old bat an ishan hammer weighs in between 2lbs 8 or up to 12oz
aNy 1 else bought bats recently and whats ur preference coz i like big heavy bats coz im 6ft and about 85kg so im nt a small man.
but the white gold which i bought woz 4 som1else whu wanted a light pikup witha thick blade
anyway lem kno wt u guys think

malik zulfi, CA Plus are excellent bats. With CA u almost never can go wrong.
If u like heavier bats malik sher is a good option
i have contacts in pakitan that will sell u sher for around 5700.
the best heavy bats i have seen or in general any type of Bats are UT gold, and UT pro
UT golds run from anywhere 1800-2200 and they are thick as hell, and excellent middle are great balance.
UT pros are light, and great balance, thin blade, but great middle.
for UTs u have to get them from karachi. But highly recommended bats. mostly of the local domestic first class in karachi use UTs

This guy I played with a few time got a UT Pro bat from Karachi. Absolutely awsome bat. Wonderful, light puckup and great sweetspot. I've been looking for a place to buy it online but havent found one. If anyone knows a website I'll be grateful.

www.sportsworld.com are doing 70% off all SLAZENGER stuff.
I think CA make bats for Slazenger.. according to the CA website
V500 for 75 £uk
V400 for 45 £uk
Both were 2.8's but they FELT like feathers.. i cud play one handed!
MY own CA is a 2.8 but it feels like a brick!

Am thinking of getting this bat for the new season. What is the pick up like Easa ... nice and light ? Im hoping its not heavy or i'll have to look elsewhere. Im quite an aggressive hard-hitting batsman, more of a top hand player than bottom hand, so whats it like when it comes to giving the ball some humpty? Also what Grade is the willow ... or does it vary?

Its ok, but hows the profile on that? I'd go for the other one, without the colours, I mean the 'Kahuna'.
Go for the GM Catalyst, amazing bat.
I currently got a GM Purist
