Pakistan will start their defence of the Under-19 World Cup by playing the hosts Malaysia on February 17 as they bid to become the first team to win a hat-trick of titles. The tournament was officially launched in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday as the ICC announced the schedule.

Pakistan are the only team to have won back-to-back titles at this level, having triumphed in 2004 and 2006 in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka respectively and start as top seeds in Malaysia. India, the winners from 2000 and beaten finalist last year, are seeded second, with Australia (winners in 1988 and 2002) seeded third and England (winners in 1998) fourth as those two sides were losing semi-finalists in 2006.

All four will be in action on the opening day with Pakistan meeting Malaysia at Johor Cricket Academy in Johor, India facing Papua New Guinea (PNG) at Kinrara Cricket Academy in Kuala Lumpur, Australia taking on Namibia at Penang Sports Club in Penang, and England facing Ireland at Selangor Turf Club in Kuala Lumpur.

The 16 participating teams will be battling for a place in the final on March 2 in Kuala Lumpur. Besides the ICC's 10 full members and hosts Malaysia, five qualifiers - Namibia, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, Ireland, and Bermuda - will take part in the two-week long tournament.

Group A (to be based in Johor) - Pakistan (1), Zimbabwe (8), New Zealand (9), Malaysia (16)

Anyone interested about this U-19 World Cup next year?? :)
I would say, Bangladesh have been placed in a comparatively easy group. Top two teams will progress to the Super League quarterfinals while the two bottom teams from each group qualifying for the Plate Championship quarterfinals.

They all look easy groups. Surprised to see bangladesh is #5. I thought they were 3-4 at U19 level. Group B looks the tough one as SA and WI will be fighting it out for next round

Interesting to see Zimbabwe ranked above New Zealand and South Africa at U19 level.

yes, the previous u-19 team was stronger than this current one (they are playing against Pak u-19 right now).....but watch out for tamim, dollar,Subashish, rony and few more, they are capable to win the cup for BD this time.

I have a felling that Nepal might do better :)

hmm..question for you folks

Should a player be allowed to play under 19 cricket after he has already played a test or an ODI?

Yes. Of course. He's still under 19 isn't he or did he magically grow y 4 years by playing a test or ODI?

why not? as long as a player (who already played test/odi) is u-19 he can play for u-19 if their cricket board think so.

and for Tamim Iqbal- this is the best place where he can get some good competitive match experience before he gets a call for national team (for BD's tour to NZ in dec-jan) for ODI's ONLY.

If we get Mohammad Aamir back our team will be complete. Nobody will be able to touch us and we will wallop everyone.

Without him we still have a good chance of making it 3 out of 3.
