ASHLEY COLE looks certain to quit Arsenal after appearing in next Saturday’s FA Cup Final against Manchester United.

The England defender will appear at a Premier League commission called to investigate an illegal approach by Chelsea to Cole and his agent, Jonathan Barnett, in January. Cole will then head to Cardiff. But Arsenal’s hopes of persuading the player to stay at Highbury appear to be failing.

Five of Europe’s top clubs are ready to pounce for the 24 year-old left-back who Arsenal rate at £25million.

Barcelona are favourites and AC Milan, Inter Milan, Juventus and Real Madrid are also interested.

It is understood Cole has been in turmoil about this week’s hearing and his long term future.

After the breakdown of contract talks Arsenal have attempted to rebuild relationships. There have been no talks between the Gunners and Cole’s agent since January and this week’s hearing could prove even more divisive for all the parties.

It seems likely that the commission will find against Chelsea and Cole for taking part in the meeting. But Cole’s advisers will not accept defeat lightly. They are already reviewing EC law for a future appeal and claim that the player is facing a restraint of trade

Hah, and they always said what a tight knit club arsenal is and what great team spirit there is between all their players.

He seems happy playing at moment. i can understand hes finding it hard 2 adapt to a new country. However, thats not really an indication tool 2 team spirit. Reyes has his own personal issues with adpating lifestyle..

IMHO a lot of this stuff about THE ARSENAL SPIRIT is a load of tripe. We have seen vieira holding the club to ransom, reyes openly admitting he wants away, "sly kicker" cole also not happy at the club and edu too is leaving. What kinda spirit is this?

however you can expect mr wenger to find a ideal replacement

he always does(except for seamen)
and central defender. but you have to give it to him they used to call adams a "donkey" and he found a donkey for real in cygan,,man he's useless

You've got to admire the team spirit and unity at Arsenal.

Players coming and leaving is a natural thing but when the talk is about your best 3 or 4 players then it gets a bit worrying. Captain vieira unsettles the whole team every other year, reyes, pires, cole, bergkamp, edu even lehmann. I dont think there is any other team in the league where so many of the players whose future is uncertain. When all fit, these players would be considered as part of the regular starting XI.

Not as good as Arsenal though. I only wish United had a team spirit like Arsenal. It really is something to admire. I hope one day, United can become as United as Arsenal.

Barca do need a left back but i doubt they will blow £25m on cole when they can get someone nearly as good for far less in shape of patrice evra or eric abidal who would both cost less than £10m

If they sell him for 25mil then i would be happ becuase we have gael clichy and i think he will be better then cole. I say get rid of the whinger and then buy some quality players with all the money arsenal have got this season.

i hope barca arent crazy enough to blow the transfer fund on cole when we could get some like patrice evra for fraction of the cost or even eric abidal

20th May 2005, 14:22
Liverpool are after Evra too! Prepared to do some sort of part exchange with Diarra and Cheyrou going to Monaco!

Reds ready with Evra offer

Liverpool could be ready to offer Monaco the pick of their French talent to try and land Patrice Evra.
The French international is one of the most up and coming left backs in Europe and host of clubs are tracking him.
Spanish colossuses Real Madrid and Barcelona have been monitoring Evra for some time, while Internazionale and Juventus are also very keen.
However, English sides are also well aware of Evra's capabilities.
Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger took an interest in Evra as far back as 2002, and Manchester United and Liverpool were not too far behind in checking on him - the only real surprise so far is that Chelsea have not become involved in the battle.
It is in fact Liverpool who look to have made one of the first moves for Senegal-born Evra - who is expected to leave the Stade Louis II in the summer, and the Principality outfit have already targeted Boavista's Nelson as a possible replacement.
Liverpool are now understood to have made contact with Monaco and told them that they can have money plus some of their French contingent - with Djimi Traore, Bruno Cheyrou and Alou Diarra, currently on loan at Lens, all rumoured to be on offer.
Evra, who turns 24 later this week, is expected to decide his future and which club he would like to join over the summer
