Always thought the kid was a star. He is. Outclassed none other than three time (or is it 4?) Olympic champion Mario Kindelan today, and anounced he is turning pro.

Way to go kid!

Khan performed very well tonight.

He certainly will go a long way.

I was surprised with the way Kindelan performed. He didn't seem too comfortable when making his entrance to the ring and wasn't himself in the ring either.

Classy Khan avenges Olympic loss

Amir Khan signed off his amateur career with a superb revenge win over Olympic conqueror Mario Kindelan.
Cuban legend Kindelan had beaten Khan in the lightweight final in Athens, but he had no answer to the Briton in front of a passionate Bolton crowd.

After a cagey opening, Khan exploded on to the offensive and showed brilliant hand speed to prevail 19-13 on points.

Khan, 18, then announced he had agreed a pro deal with promoter Frank Warren, as Kindelan, 33, bowed out of boxing.

"I managed alright," said a modest Khan after the fight.

"This time I knew I was boxing Kindelan and I knew his style - we'd been working on it for a long time.

"I beat the best in the world."

Khan looked composed from the outset, entering to a huge ovation from the crowd who sang "Show me the way to Amir-illo" as an adaptation of the recently re-released Tony Christie song.

Another Warren fighter Ricky Hatton was at ringside with middleweight legend Nigel Benn, cricketer Freddie Flintoff and Bolton boss Sam Allardyce.

And Khan treated them, sizing up the hugely-experienced Kindelan in the first two minutes before taking control of the fight in the following rounds.

He rocked his Cuban rival with a couple of fierce punches and allowed the Olympic champion no way back.

"Amir beat the number one amateur fighter in the world and never looked like he was in any danger," said Warren.

"What else can you do? I will promote him and manage him as of now.

"Composure, confidence, skills - everything's there for him and will stand him in good stead," said Warren, who has called Khan the best Olympic prospect since Sugar Ray Leonard.

I KHAN BE A LEGEND AT 25

Amir Khan set himself a seven-year target to become the richest fighter in British boxing history after ending his amateur career with an emphatic revenge win over Mario Kindelan.

Khan announced shortly after his 19-13 victory over the Cuban great at Bolton's Reebok Stadium that he had signed a three-year, seven-figure professional deal with promoter Frank Warren.

And the ambitious 18-year-old said he intended to claim a world title and become a legend before hanging up his gloves at the age of 25.

Khan said: "I want to become a world champion fairly soon - I got to the Olympics quickly so now I want to win a world title quickly too.

"I want to retire from all of boxing by the age of 25, becoming a legend as well at that age. It is a big goal and it is going to be hard to do.

"I don't want to get punched all my life so the best thing is at the age of 25 to stop boxing and look after my family."

Khan's growing public profile and a projected long-term terrestrial television deal are set to send his earnings potential into the stratosphere.

Warren is currently negotiating with ITV in search of a deal and said it was impossible too under-estimate the potential of his latest superstar signing.

"Amir can achieve whatever he wants to achieve and financially his future is secure," said Warren.

"The likes of Nigel Benn, Frank Bruno and Naseem Hamed took time to get crossover appeal outside boxing.

"Amir has already got that and he is going to be huge. He is already known around the world and in America where they know him because of the Olympics.

"But the important thing is that we do not get carried away and take it steady. Amir faces a reality check as he moves on to the next stage of his career."

Khan devoured his Olympic conqueror Kindelan in a manner which dismissed some suggestions that in choosing to stay amateur and seek victory over the Cuban at the third attempt he had taken an unnecessary risk.

Khan had evidently learned from his eight-point defeat in the Olympic final and did not let Kindelan settle for a moment, clearly winning every round according to the ringside.

According to the England amateur coach Terry Edwards, Khan's display on the show which is expected to raise a six-figure sum for his Bury amateur boxing club ranked alongside the greatest in the country's amateur boxing history.

Edwards said: "People ask if Amir is going to go on to become a legend but to me he has already achieved that in the amateur ranks.

"That performance was up there with the very best and we all know his departure is going to leave a huge hole to fill for our sport."

well he's definately got the potential and oppurtunity so he should just go for it and just follow his heart regardless to what anyone else says, but imo he should of stayed amateur!
