An arbitral tribunal headed by Justice BP Saraf banned Pakistan's Mohammad Yousuf from playing for the Indian Premier League after he backed out of his contract with the rebel Indian Cricket League on Saturday.

Yousuf had pulled out of the Indian Cricket League in-order to play for Pakistan. However, the 33-year-old shocked the ICL by signing with the ICC backed BCCI's Indian Premier League.

His explanation for the withdrawal was that he misunderstood the ICL contract and did not realize he would have to give the ICL priority over international matches.

The rebel league proceeded to take the matter to court demanding that Yousuf honoured his contract with them.

In reply the ace Pakistani batsman filed a suit of his own against the ICL management claiming damages worth Rs 215 million.

I really do think Yousaf does have that alter ego of that wrestler - Million Dollar Man.

He is now offically known as the Yousaf Dollar Man.....'cos everyone's got a price'

Its only decision of an arbitary tribunal. Its decision is only binding if both MY & IPL agree to be bound by it otherwise it has no legal teeth to punish if the parties ignore the decision. It has no real legal authority in the same way as a court of law.

To save face I think the decision will be appealed or ICL will be compensated for the breach of contract, if any to allow MY to play in the IPL.

No, IPL knew all along with the PCB/BCCI/Yousuf that ICL would take this issue to court. All the BCCI wanted was to make sure that Yousuf doesn't take part in the ICL & that is the main reason why Yousuf is the only player that got paid in advance (all amount). I see nothing in this case except a man (Yousuf) who is blinded by money, ofcouse some here wouldn't see it that way.

Yousuf is turning out to be nothing but a snake. First he changes his relegion, then he abandones his country to play for ICL, then he takes money from ICL and goes back to play for his country, then he tries to sign up for IPL. I mean these are serious character issues, I wouldnt want someone like this in my team.

By far the stupidest comment I heard from anyone on this board thus far. What does being a snake have anything to do with what you believe in?

That was the Aim form the start from BCCI for him not to play ICL it was worth him not playing, actually thats why he was the only one BCCI paid in advance they knew that there may be an injuction on him not playing any court would stop him playing for breach of contrct, thus both sides happy Yusuf gets his money and ICL is stripped of playing the batsmen of the year

I'm sure he's strike rate was below 70? I'm sure Rameez told ever one about how slow Yousuf was playing?

Not a stupid comment at all! Yousuf's change in religion did raise quite a few eye brows at that time. Whenever a person changes his religion it is quite a 'touchy topic' especially for the people whose religion has been abandoned by that particular person.

I was implying, and this is just my opinion only reason why he changed religion was to get into the good books of INZI not because he truly believed in converting to muslim. I mean something fishy going on here: From being a relegious Christian who does the cross symbol everytime he hit a 100 to SUDDENLY a muslim with a huge beard..

He was already a staple in the team, he was never going to be dropped. So why change your whole life and alienate your family for the sake of a captain who was due to retire in a year or two at the most?

Yours is one of the strangest and most illogical assertions I've ever come across!

Umm not really, I have came across a very interesting read about how Yousuf's felt threatened for his place because he was a christian in the Pakistani team. Let me do some digging see if I can find it...

Romali, he was NEVER going to be dropped based on his religion (we are already short of quality batsmen and have only produced one or two world class ones in the past ten years). Keep religion out of this issue.

If religion is such a big reason, then why is Kaneria in the team, even though he has been pretty horrible for a while now.

lol. im not gonna defend him fully. but in all honestly i think he was just a bit mad over the fact he didnt get captaincy. then he wasnt selected for T20. so mayb that spurred him on to do something like join the icl.

A stupid comment. Completely shows out your ineptness.. As discussed many times earlier by the MODs as well, please do not bring religion or discuss it on a cricket forum.

When it comes to the Pakistani team (in recent times) religion does play a focal point. I have no idea why some here are been so defensive. Yousuf's change in religion did cause many eyebrows to be raised & RR is just coming back to that thought/idea.

Kamran Akmal is still in the team & he is doing far worse than Dani> meaning that PCB is just too blind to see poor performances! Anyhow i don't feel that the whole Yousuf issue had anything to do with been dropped & had everything to do with captaincy.

Its kicking off between Moin Khan and Yousaf:

http://cricket.expressindia.com/news/Dont-be-harsh-on-ICLaligned-players-PCB-urged/254496/

The former captain also lashed out at former teammate Yousuf.

“I dont know what he is thinking or what he is up to. The bottom line is he has indulged in a breach of trust and contract. He signed a contract with us and also took advance money. Now he is claiming he didnt know what he was signing or it was taken without his consent. Who is he trying to fool? Is he a child. Didnt he know what he was doing when he accepted the advance amount,” he said.

The ICL has obtained a restraining order from a arbitration panel in India stopping Yousuf from playing in the IPL which is due to be launched in April-May with the backing of the Indian Cricket Board.

Moin said he was aware that Yousuf had filed a defamation case against him and the ICL in a civil court in Pakistan.

“When I asked him about this, he said the PCB lawyer took his signature on legal documents without telling him what it was about.”

He recalled that the ICL had no problems with Yousuf giving top priority to Pakistan cricket.

“New Zealands Shane Bond signed up with the ICL and made it clear he would not be available for the launch edition because of commitments with his national team. It was fine with the ICL. Why couldnt Yousuf do the same and be straightforward.” Moin said the ICL was right in seeking damages from Yousuf.

He also said the first edition of the ICL was a good experience and a second edition was planned sometime in April-May.
