I played my first FC match in Div IV today. I bowled first and got the other team out for 29. I then scored 496/1 losing one batsman for 250. I plan to declare at 500 and then bowl him out and get an extra day of rest, although will miss out on revenues.

Scored 600 on the first day. Four batsmen batted, all scoring 100+, with first opener scoring 200. Number 3 and 4 are not out. Playing easy team so will bat till 1000.

MCMLXXXII

I think an innings and 420 runs and only 1.25 days would be better then playing 3 days and winning by 900 runs. I got full points and my players were rested enough to win my tougher OD game. I have figured the key is all in the PFL. If your players are winning then the member confidence will be up and the money will flow in, no point having desolate confidence and playing all 3 days.
What is the best strategy? play for money or playing for PFL?
Straight Bat
1st February 2008, 19:19
Depends on the cash flow of the business. If you're below the 1.6m magic mark and are not earning the max 80k per week on interest then maybe it would be best if you played out the full 3 days to gain the revenue.
However, like you said, the key is pfl. Although I'm happy in the short run with 3 days revenue, I may regret playing this match for 3 days in game week 10 if i get really low pfl.
Kamran
1st February 2008, 19:54
Play for money as more money buys you better players with better stamina.

Being relegated to div IV was an excellent thing for me. I am resting the big guns and scored 611/0 and have them at 33/3 right now. I am not going to make them follow on and will take this to the 3rd day. I got 64K today so at the end of 3 days I could get a lot. This is good this way I can try to finish first in my Div III OD league by keeping the big players fit. This will also help out my chances in the PP league!

Won by an innings and 244 runs. Finished early on day 2, got plenty of rest. Now 2 big matches coming up. I think I am going to lose my next match against Feckin' Hull (8825). Any advice? The pitch was flat yesterday and green now, if it stays this way, I might have a chance with my bowlers but he is much much tougher then me, I don't really know what I should do. I just plan to play my best team possible and hope for the best.
Kamran
20th February 2008, 14:32
If you dont think you stand a chance then it might be beter to just TIE and save some pfl. Looking at his team the weak point i can see is his middle order batting, if you can get through the top order then you might be able to bowl him out. Look at his last cup game the team he lost to had much lower ratings.
MCMLXXXII
20th February 2008, 15:05
Well yes that last cup game is very interesting, it seems like his batting could not stand up at all and basically one bowler was able to go through the whole lineup. I think his bowler Haleem will easily take out my top order.
I am not going to TIE as I feel that I can stay at the top of the group and stay undefeated. It will be hard beating him but it is very possible. If he goes with a green pitch, that is my strength too. I think I could have enough batsmen to bat deep. It is times like these that I wished my keeper was a decent batsman.
Kamran
20th February 2008, 15:13
I suppose you could try and have your top 3 or 4 bats on very def or def orders.
MCMLXXXII
26th February 2008, 14:35
I forgot to set orders and 2 of my players, Imranullah Javeddudin and joey Allen are on lively fitness. I needed to rest them to prepare for my big game on Friday which I really need to win and also to take on MKR on Sunday. I got the opponent out for 50 and have batted to 430/1. I plan to declare and then use only 4 bowlers and let the above to just stand there to save their PFL. I should easily win this game but I am not sure if my players will recover in time.

I decided to go into this match with none of my front line bowlers. The pitch is also flat, and I underestimated my opponent who is only 3rd in our league and not 8th as I had thought. What this means is that I am having a tough time getting him out. I am afraid the match might go into a draw. Any suggestions on what I should do to win?

I'd set your batsmen on V attacking and declare on a second innings score of 225. Then, have your bowlers as attacking/v attacking to see if you can bowl them out.
declaring on 225 would give you a lead of 326 and I think that'd be more than enough. But, you know your team better than me... what declaration total were you looking at?

That, and his player ratings could have a large bearing on the amount of risk you should take.

If you went for a lead of 400, how many overs do you think you'd have to bowl at him?

The players are off the field for tea.
End of Over 70 (1 runs). Butt129: 234-4, runrate=3.34 (1st Inn: 360-10)
Lead by 92 runs. (sohrabslegends 502-5 dec)
My first match this year that I won't be winning. Mainly due to Butt playing on a hard and fast pitch, just finding it too difficult to bowl him out with my second string bowling attack.
Oh well, this result won't have a bearing on my promotion bid - that is garunteed.

End of Over 81 (1 runs). Butt129: 278-8, runrate=3.43 (1st Inn: 360-10)
Lead by 136 runs. (sohrabslegends 502-5 dec)
If I can get them all out by the 85th over, it gives me 25 overs to get around 150 which could be do-able as my batsmen are all on very attacking.

1 wicket left to get and then an interesting chase will take place

stupid captain has taken off both my wicket taking bowlers (who took 8 wickets between them) and has put on two bowlers who are having a poor match. Will be gutted if their innings isn't over before 90 overs

Just drawn todays game in a bid to avoid promotion.
Do you guys think that if I tried losing/drawing my remaining matches then I can avoid promotion at all?

Wow, your way ahead, I think you might need to lose a majority of them and only draw one of them to have a chance

I drew 3 on purpose to avoid promotion, and haven't lost any yet.
All three times, Hussain (a proficient) got 575+, the highest being 589.

Im not saying it definitely won't work, you can give it a try if you want

nah its ok, i suppose it will give me a challenge at least otherwise it would get boring being in div 4 for both leagues! Since i've updated my stadium and been winning all my FC games things have been really good for my team. Ive picked up a lot of tips here, i guess for the first couple of seasons when i started playing i just wasted time and didn't have a clue, especially with things like training etc!

OK, I am trying to throw away a match and if not that then at least draw it. I have set the most ridiculous orders. Set my bowlers to bat and my batsmen to bowl. Lets see how it goes.

OK, so the first match I tried to throw away, I ended up drawing. This second one, I was able to lose to the second place guy and he is comfortably in first now. Do I need to throw away my last game as well? I would expect him to win his last match. I have been setting the most ridiculous orders possible for these.
Here is the table.

If you are 100% sure, the other team will win their match easily and will get full batting and bowling points as well as match winning points than you dont have to throw your match, remember losing matches effect your moral and moral effects money:D

Absolutely stupid game playing the third guy, this is what happened :
India Rules - 334
Keyur - 159
India Rules - After stumps was about 50-3 and then 104 all out
Keyur - 281 ..... 2 of his batsman made 100's after being bowled out for 159
How is that possible ??? :O

Did the pitch change at the end of day? Do those things have any effect? I know I have seen that if I check the ground the pitch has changed but on the scorecard it still shows the old pitch type. How does that work?

A pitch can't change during a match
