Welcome Goldy, its nice to see that you joined up.
I quite like the idea of a mentoring thread, i think it would be very helpful to all of us.
If anyone needs any help with tactics, bank balance or training then i would encourage you to put your name in this thread and i am sure goldy will help you out.

I have read the mentoring thread on BT but what is this whole thing about? I mean the way I see it, when a person first joins, they are already overwhelmed with things to read and learn. What does the mentoring program do to help them stay in the game? Is it just talking to them and helping them out when they have problems or is there more to it? What are some of the things that I will have to do if I want to be a mentor?

Well i would think that it would be something along the lines of helping newbies in there first few weeks, tellling them what to buy and what to sell, how to go about training and how to manage money.
The second stage would be people like ourselves who have played for a couple of months or a year, we would be looking for more tactical advise, things like pitch choice, effects of weather and orders. If goldy can help us with this then that would be great.
I did think about doing mentoring but i dont think i know enough about the game yet to do the second stage but i would be happy to help any newbies with there first few weeks.

Thank you very much all of you.
As Kamran have explained most of how the mentoring works. I just want to add little bit more.
First step, I want a very strong group who can help me and Zaheir to contact newbies and offer them help with the beginning of the game. Offering them sorting out players for them and telling them how to choose players and why etc. Help to setting up line for their first match and giving them basic knowledge of the game.
2nd Helping them to manage their finance, hire coaches, specialist etc. and keep in touch with them preparing their minds for next season to train a player or two for Pakistan.
I already have helped few new members and it does work. They are showing more interest in Bt and regularly corresponding with me.
I want everyone who can spare little time for mentoring to help us.
Also to help each other with tactics and their new experiments with the line up etc. Even those works or not.
Hope I will get response from you all
Thanks
Zaheir

I have read the mentoring thread on BT but what is this whole thing about? I mean the way I see it, when a person first joins, they are already overwhelmed with things to read and learn. What does the mentoring program do to help them stay in the game? Is it just talking to them and helping them out when they have problems or is there more to it? Caliban originally started the mentoring thread and appointed a co-ordinator. Jordee reappointed me.
Prior to the current initiative BT Pakistan had a haphazard approach to welcoming new users and trying to mentor them. Caliban wished to make it more organised, reliable and effective. Kamran and Goldy have already talked about what it is designed to do and the objectives can be seen by reading the early posts in the mentoring thread on BT.
The mentoring thread is not designed as the forum to answer all the newbie questions. It sets out a structured approach to managing the mentoring programme. In short, its a management tool not a Q&A session. A lot of the mentoring flows out of the work on that thread and its a place for our mentors to congregate, pick up new prospects and discuss ideas to improve performance.
The actual mentoring takes place off the thread in private via BT Mail, email and messaging services by our team of mentors which includes people such as Goldy. I do take questions and answer them but most of my work has involved getting to the new users, engaging them and giving work to our mentors. So I am more involved in the organisational side.
The reason the mentoring process is needed and is effective is that our coaches can offer a quick route through everything you say they need to read and learn without being overwhelmed. They take the mystery and confusion out of the game and help new users avoid making silly mistakes. Indeed from tracking the new users lists for a lengthy period I have seen teams join up, refuse any help or advice and soon after leave after the manager has made a mess of his team and finances. They then set up another team and come back, determined not to make the same mistakes again!
We welcome them, befriend them and show them how to get the most out of the game. They are much more likely to stick around if they have friends to help them out when they need it and to get their team organised at the outset. We also offer them chances to get the largest amount of income possible by playing friendlies with them. I'm sure the system is not perfect but we are always looking to improve it and suggestions and new mentors are always welcome.
There are no fixed criteria for becoming a mentor. A good understanding of all aspects of the game and game rules is necessary and the desire and enthusiasm to help a new user. It certainly helps to have a few seasons in the game and to be an accomplished trainer. So its mainly knowledge, experience and enthusiasm.
For the long term we hope that we can retain a larger percentage of new users, make them highly active in the game and sledging boards and have a greater pool of committed trainers for Pakistans U19 and senior teams.
I hope that clears up some of the confusion about the mentoring process. The role of mentoring on this board would probably be more direct and similar to the 'Newbie Questions' board on Battrick.

Yep, thanks for the detail Zaheir.
Could anyone enlighten me on the effects on weather and batting and bowling in BT?
So far, by reading through all the election Q's and A's, i've inferred that cloudy/windy favours the bowlers and Sunny for Batsmen which I guess is reasonable and understandable. Are there any other things I should know to do with the weather and other things which should affect how approach tactics to a match?

Weather
Weather affects player performance
The weather can have a large effect on matches.
The weather is updated daily udring the daily updates (no 00:00BT).
Certain types of player will flourish in certain weather conditions, although may suffer in others.
Batting scores tend to be a little lower in adverse weather conditions, eg. the further the weather is from sunny, generally the lower the scores (stats from Raptornex, sampled from 10000+ matches):

Thanks for the stats Kamran. One or two interesting facts in there

the first post is a guide on weather its very simple to understand, the 2nd is on types of orders but it is somewhat flawed as it does not take weather into account. I had been planning on making something that would combine the two so that it would make it easier to decide what orders to use but with the elections and now me doing scouting for the under19s i just havent had time.

To be honest i am just too lazy but i am sure someone like mcm or zahier could take a look at those two posts and come up with a guide of some kind that combines both. Also there is another pitch guide i saw somewhere i will try and find it.
