Arsene Wenger is reportedly ready to make Alexander Hleb his first signing of the summer as The Gunners look to strengthen their squad and catch up with London neighbours Chelsea.
Wenger has been promised substantial transfer funds by the club's board, and has been tracking the Belarus international midfielder for well over a year.
Hleb is believed to have a buy-out clause in his contract at a value of around €15 million and could well be set to leave current club Stuttgart, with a host of European giants monitoring his progress.
The 24-year-old would provide strong competition for Freddie Ljungberg on the right wing of the Gunners midfield, and has proved himself to be a standout performer in Die Bundesliga with the Swabians.
Hleb himself admitted that he has a diverse range of options should he desire to further his career away from the Gottlieb-Daimler Stadium, and revealed that the North London outfit had shown the most concrete interest to date.
"Yes, there are teams looking at me," said Hleb.
"I believe they are Milan, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Arsenal.
"But Arsenal have shown the strongest interest, we will have to wait and see."
However The Gunners may have to stump up serious cash if they are to test the resolve of Stuttgart, as the German outfit have previously intimated they are determined to keep hold of the star.

All we need(arsensal) is a skillful target man like Carew or Kluivert, goalkeeper like niami and winger like van der varrt and will be unstopable next season.

Geordie Ahmed
25th May 2005, 14:38
You dont need Kluivert - trust me

25th May 2005, 14:41
I think Geordie's right! LOL

he was not 100% fit for newcastle this season!! plus souness did not knw how to use him and wenger would. just imagine if o'neil was newcastle manager he would have got the best out kluivert like he done out of sutton.

SULTAN - arsene wenger WOULD NEVER BUY a target man - he has said that many a time - he has a certain style of football and would want to keep with that.

I think he needs a striker and a winger

25th May 2005, 16:03
Arsenal shouldn't change their style. The current style will leave a legacy on English football. When they are on form, it is football at its most beautiful!

Waqar's inswinging yorker
25th May 2005, 16:06
that is so true - they play a nice flowing continental style of football as opposed to other more rigid sides

Sir Alex Ferguson wants to begin transfer talks with new Manchester United owner Malcolm Glazer.
The American tycoon is reportedly ready to grant the Scottish tactician £20 million to spend in the summer after his widely unpopular takeover of the English giants.
Losing in the FA Cup final to Arsenal on Saturday compounded a dismal season for The Red Devils, and Ferguson is ready to splash the cash to reinforce his squad as he attempts to catch pre-eminent Chelsea.
Targets such as Michael Essien and Michael Owen have been linked with summer moves to Old Trafford, whilst a new shot-stopper remains a priority due to the worrying form of both Tim Howard and Roy Carroll.
Now Ferguson has revealed that he wants to sit down with the new owners before he goes on holiday in just over a week, after making phone contact with the Glazer family.
"As far as new signings are concerned, when we sit down with the new owners we will ascertain the situation," said Ferguson.
"I have spoken to them on the phone but I'm going on holiday on the first of June and I am not changing that - not at my age."
Meanwhile Ferguson labelled Arsenal 'boring' as they resisted United to claim the FA Cup on penalties.
The Gunners mustered just one shot on target throughout the tie as they were lacking their usual attacking impetus, although claimed the spoils as Paul Scholes missed a vital spot kick.
Ferguson admitted to being surprised by Arsene Wenger's decision to revert to a defensive 4-5-1 formation, and expressed his disappointment at the galling defeat.
"The fact that we did miss chances encouraged them to go for penalties," Ferguson continued.
"There was a period in extra time when they didn't even attempt to get into our box.
"I was surprised they went with Dennis Bergkamp up front on his own, they didn't have the pace to run through us and they have always had that in the past.
"They also went for a boring three-man midfield, it's disappointing to lose a game like that but in cup football you need a wee break and we didn't get it."[/b]

man utd need two central midfielders - i would move keane to centre half to keep his influence on the side - need a right winger as well, ronaldo for me is better on left wing. - U could also do with another striekr and a keeper.

Good luck man utd in trying to get these players - like i said - wait for the big boys like ac milan, real, barca, juve to have their pick then u have the scraps.

Fletchers a quality player. He could be the replacement for Keane.

The rest I agree with.

Then we need to get a keeper. Carlos Kameni is the best choice. I think he has a buy out clause of 4 mill.

Get a central midfielder and a left winger as well and the side is sorted.

jameel - think of the reasoning behind it u fool, he isnt the same player as he was at central midfield - he has to play more of an anchor role and such cant make those runs like he used to when he was argubly one of the best in the world. His influence is key to man utd and he has shown he can do a good job at centre half and a more younger/dynamic player can play in the middle. U can get away with some mobility problems at cenre half - all to do with positional sense - ayala is a great example of this.

Keane has suggested it himself and i think it could work
