the thing is there are ghazal and classical singer/musicians in India too so I didn't add any ghazal. I would have added 5 some songs of Nayyara Noor and I am not adding any filmy songs for the same reason (reference to bollywood). There are a lot more pop songs that can make it but reference to India in OP is perhaps misleading and I have no idea why that was made

manwa re and kuttay are two different songs. i like raton ke andheron mein jab by noorie aswell from the second album. and almost all the songs from the first one.
oh yeah very different. First I was going to put the "(Kuttay) te tho uttay" song but replaced it with Manwa Re and left (Punjabi) there and forgot to take out Kuttay too. Tho Kuttay should be there on the list.

See, I think.....this is asking a question that is a little unfair. It like asking....who are Pakistan's top 10 cricket players. Now, if you ask a couple of my uncles, they would certainly want Hanif Mohammad and Fazal Mahmood to be included in top 10.... while me on the other hand.......would go for the cricketers of this era.

Similarly...with the songs, I think......it you take 60s, 70s, and early 80s into account, you would come up with more than 100 "immortal" songs just from those 25 years.

My only problem with the songs these days are ....that they sound GREAT for a few months and then, they lose their charm. Songs from 60s, 70s and early 80s still sell like hot cakes!

I guess, my point is (and I am not an expert in music), that are old song that good that they are still sung/listened while news songs/music.........is that low quality that I don't even remember some of the huge hit songs in 90s I listened to.

Another example, while watching Sa Re Ga Ma Pa last season (in which Amanat from Faisalabad got to final round), most of the contestants also sang songs from 60s/70s/80s - more than recent past (1995-2005)!

PS: The Allan Faqir and Mohammad Ali Sheki song - Allah Allah Kar Bhaiya is for both artist. If you haven't heard it then do listen to it. It is great. It was made early 80s and Allan Faqir was singing with local/folk music instruments and in Sindhi and when Sheki will come it will be modern music and Urdu. That is why I put it under Fusion. This has to be added by itself in another category. Probably the most famous qawalli and entertaining. It is a big show. I don't like qawallis and when growing up once a week they will come on PTV at 10 pm which I never watched. But the way Aziz Mian performs is good. I have heard he is educated (meaning masters degree) knows couple of languages and writes his stuff too.

Very good list!

At the same time, 100s of classic songs from Mehdi Hassan, Noor Jahan (Punjabi and Urdu), Amanat Ali, Ghulam Ali, Surraiya Multanikar, Munni Begum, Masood Rana, Ahmed Rushdi, Mala, Naseem Begum, Naheed Akhtar,....... can make this top 100 list!

Then some of the classical signers Farida Khanum, Malika Pukhraj, Roshan Ara Begum, Iqbal Bano etc.... had their own hit which would certainly qualify to be listed in this thread.

I think 100 is good enough. There will be personal taste involved. I think advertize it in the last song you heard thread in Time Pass as few people probably never come here and they might get to hear some good music too. I try to find the link of songs I like for thoes who haven't heard them.

I love the old alam lohar ...So if you were to hear Jugni from him and his son which one did you like? I posted both links but recording of one is not that good. This is probably his most famous song or atleast for someone not growing up in Punjab.

Is there another version of jugni? I have heard a version where it starts "mein Ali naam ki panda mein isq kara dam dam ...." Sorry for any misspelling or pronunciation and it seems a little different but they were also Jugni. Like the one Alamgir would sing

This is not a song but music. This is something that might not get promoted by media/people but folk music should be. This is Khameesu Khan playing alghoza - two flutes in mouth and there will not be a break in sound. And in the end of video Allan Faqir comes out to dance

Bhaiyo:

There was this song by a Pakistani singer whose face was something like Shehbaz Sharif must have been thirty five years ago, with a bit more hair of course. I have a suspicion (nothing certain) that his name is Faisal something.

The song was 'kuch kehna chaahein tum se, darte hain bura na mano'. Not available on youtube to the best of my knowledge. One of my friends, who incidently holds the world's first PhD on youtube, also says it's not there.

Now the irony. I have it on a cassette (inside a 50L plastic bag full of those things somewhere on my balcony) but I have no way to play it.

Does anybody have it in a modern enough format?

If so, please share because it is an amazing composition.

Very nice Momo. All songs from the film 'Sarhad' were very memorable, my personal favourite being the Madam Noor Jehan - Mehdi Hasan duet Chand Too Jab Bhi Muskurata Hae.

strange the song below didn't get much attention. It is the title song of the album which had the above song. The poster says it is the video though his name is also in the animation artist list and no mention of the song title or group/singer etc so I doubt it. Very Good Effort in the animation by the poster. I am seeing it for the first time now. I like this song and it was the first song of the album that I heard. The best part is not just the song/music but it is different
