should be a cracker of a fight - i think kostya is a little too good for the hitman as kostya has knocked out the likes of sharmba mitchell and zab judah! but who knows - im sure kostya has never been hit like ricky will catch him

my prediction is a tsyzu KO in round4

well done ricky! the key was the fight went nearly the distance, kostya's stamina is a problem!

I really want Hatton to win BUT i think Tsyzu has a little too much for Hatton.
I wud not be surprised at all if Hatton does win cos he is talented, im just concerned that he hasnt fought anyone near the calibre of Tsyzu yet

Sheer perfection - that's the only way to describe Ricky Hatton's sensational defeat of Kostya Tszyu on Saturday night.

The Hitman's brilliant capture of the IBF world light-welterweight title confirmed once and for all his place on boxing's very top table.

No more is Hatton a fighter packed with potential - now he's officially the real deal.

On Saturday night many people felt he'd meet his match in the hugely experienced and hugely talented reigning champion from Down Under.

But Hatton put in action a plan that was so perfectly executed that the result was never really in doubt.

Right from the first bell he was like a pit bull snarling and snapping at Tszyu wherever he went.

At no stage was the Australian able to plant his feet and line up that booming right hand that has felled so many top light-welterweights.

At no time was he able to dictate either the pace or the style of the fight.

Hatton made the evening his by putting Tszyu on the back foot early and keeping him there for the whole evening.

True the champion did produce some classy counter-punches - but they were just brief moments of hope on an night when the title was gradually ripped from his grasp.

Hatton was always the aggressor, never allowing his vaunted opponent a moment's peace.

He scored freely to the head and body and his workrate ensured he took command of the fight early.

And then, when the time came to turn the screw, Hatton proved his sheer quality.

He continued to keep the tempo high and continued to keep Tszyu going backwards.

The pressure was relentless, the punches rained down on Tszyu, and eventually something had to give.

The end, when it came, was fitting - a spent champion staying on his stool as his corner pulled him out.

This was the performance of Hatton's career - and he produced it on the biggest night of his career.

On this evidence there are many more nights to come like this, and in a division that is currently boxing's most talent-laden, that's a mouthwatering prospect.

Hatton had spent the past couple of years constantly telling us how he yearned for a challenge like this - now we know why.

He rose to the occasion in stunning fashion and produced one of the greatest British ring victories of all time.

The king is dead, long live the king.

now lets get hatton vs cotto or hatton vs mayweather!!!!!! mayweather is the no1 in the division and quite possibly the best in the world but hatton has shown his class - THAT WOULD BE A GREAT FIGHT!

HAFRIDI
6th June 2005, 17:11
hatton and mayweather would be a class encounter

6th June 2005, 17:27
Not to forget Arturo Gatti.

Very smilar fighter to Hatton.

I rate Miguel Cotto the highest.

Waqar's inswinging yorker
6th June 2005, 17:53
gatti is a scrapper and his trilogy with micky ward were legendary. Cotto is special but i rate mayweather as the great in that division

HAFRIDI
6th June 2005, 18:03
gatti is top also

Geordie Ahmed
7th June 2005, 01:47
Mayweather is brilliant - i would like to see Hatton have a go at him

Waqar's inswinging yorker
7th June 2005, 01:56
mayweather has stepped up weight so would never have faced someone like ricky hatton in terms of punching power but mayweather is an exceptional tactician.

Hatton may fight vivian harris WBA champ - weakest champ out there
