Define "good" movies and then "good" acting? Do keep Tabbu, Shabana Azmi, Samita Patil, Om Puri, Naseeruddin Shah in mind when you define "good" acting.

In Cheeni Kum, Tabbu acted about 100 times better than the big B. Similarly in one of his early movies, Saudagar - Nutan was about 200 times better than him.

I may have watch a total of less than 8 Amitabh movies so I can't be an expert in big B's acting.

I think movies after late 80s are crap. And they include hits like Lagaan and Dil waley dhulania lajaengay. Either give me the songs or the movie or if lucky enough then both.

There are quite a few movies in 80s that India made and they were classics for me, but didn't have the star value or dhamakey daaz songs but just good films and sometimes no songs. I have no idea who made them but they usually had Samita Patil, Om Puri, Naseeurdin Shah, Shabana Azmi or not not the blockbuster stars

Sholay was great because of Amjad Khan as Gabbar Singh rather Amitabh. Though Sharaabi film was good for him !

I though liked his fantasy hero / lost son films such as mard, toofan, shahenshah and Ajooba.

Although of his latest, Aks, Mohabbatein - his first big hit post his 80s dominance and Baghbaan were really good as an actor!

Quit watching the new Bollywood releases many years back due to all the skin exposure, nudity and BESHARMI but Amitabh's old one's are still worth seeing.
I'd say "The Great Gambler" is my FAVOURITE due to it being filmed in many splendid locations from Egypt to Lisbon then Rome to name a few places!.The songs are brilliant too including "Do lafzon ki hai dil ki kahani" that is an all time classic so if you've not seen it then rent it out.By the end of it you'll feel as though you've been on a world tour with Amitabh and Zeenat Aman, not bad company eh!!? :P
The great man has many excellent movies but this one is my personal favourite with "Khuda Gawah" and "Coolie" being a close second and third."Another good one is "Do aur do paanch" an excellent comedy about two theif's who accidently keep crossing eachother :))

Amitabh Bachchan was voted as the most popular actor of all time in a poll conducted by BBC.

He beat out Marlon Brando and several famous American actors easily.

Upon survey of voters, they noticed that not only Indians and Pakistanis voted for him... but people from as far as Egypt and Indonesia overwhelmingly preferred him to the rest.

i have seen Sholey in parts...but i have seen Sharabi....at least more than 10 times...

That character got sympathy of the audience right from the start...

I still remember in the late 80s and early 90s, my uncle used to own a video rental shop with Bollywood/Lollywood movies and I can remember the excitement there used to be when we heard that there would be a new Amitabh film coming out soon..

I remember when Shahenshah came out in 1988, my uncle normally bought 10 prints for a new film but the demand for Shahenshah was so much.. he had to prepare a list of ppl who wanted to rent Shahenshah on the day.,. and in the end would you believe it , he bought 50 prints!! and they were ALL out on rent for the first 5/6 days..

lol, not only that.. they were rented at a special price of "£5" per night!!, with "£2" being the normal price.. So he earned quite a bit of money, when you think that each print costed him £10.

Now normally, I would be able to get a copy of new film from my uncle for 'free', but on that occasion.. there was so high demand for it, he had customers waiting for a copy to come back.. hehe, I remember myself and my uncle's son chipping in £2.50 each and getting one of our mates to pretend he's renting it ! and we managed to take it home and watched it on the DAY it was released!

Shahenshah, now that was an awesome film back in the day .. it looks a bit cheesy now , but back then.. it was one hell of a film and Amitabh's performance was superb.

Shahenshah, now that was an awesome film back in the day .. it looks a bit cheesy now , but back then.. it was one hell of a film and Amitabh's performance was superb.

With all due respect this film was rubbish back in the day and somehow only seems worse now.

It was his first release post politics, he looked old and things were never the same again, quality of movies had nosedived even further(while he'd been away) and t'was a particularly dark period for Hindi movies. Things have slightly improved since but only because the depths had been plummeted.

TBH I couldn't really stand Amitabh in late 80's plus 90's dross, he's only become bearable again after the beard was allowed to remain grey.

Agneepath was more overrated nonsense, what's with the growly voiced "Heey heey saamne aakar baat kar" makes you cringe watching it.

More filth in the form of Jaadugar and Insaniyaat? I mean making that film was definitely showing anything but Insaniyaat and then he returns after 5 well spent years away from movies(having signed off with yet more overacting with a beard in Khuda Gawah) with the diabolical Mrituydata, don't care how catchy "nanananare" was.

Well thats your view, but thank goodness the customer's in my uncle's video rental shop didn't think so, or else he may not have earned £5 per night for rental of Shahenshah for all 50 VHS prints, for 6 consecutive days in the opening week!! :)

That's quite a lot of money made from a film that was 'rubbish' ..

Does anyone of you know that Danny Denzongpa was the original choice for the role of Gabbar Singh in Sholay ?

Amjad Khan was the best choice:19:! However, Danny is a good talent as well, he does well as a villain.

Just saw Zanjeer today - his acting was top class. Personally my favourite Amitabh film now after Sholay.

Sholay getting most votes?! lol!

Not even in his top 5 best performances, was comfortably outshone by Dharmendra.

No Shakti? C'mon I know you can't include every AB film, but that film is like Pacino and De Niro,
Two heavyweights with a tight script and plot.

The next poll should be: What is Amitabh Bachan's favourite Dillip Kumar film?... ;)

Oh and Silsilay was what Karan Johar wanted Kabhie Alvida Na Kehna to be;

I mean it was controversial, because no-one in an ultra-Dickensian Desi society, wanted to see extra-marital shennanigans actually dealt with maturely on-screen

+ The added spice was AB's alleged real-life "Friendship" with Rekha at the time...
