Manchester United have been warned by major sponsors Nike that their lack of silverware could see them end the association.

The sportswear manufacturers began a 13-year kit deal with the Red Devils in August 2002 worth up to £303million to the Old Trafford club.

However, it is reported that a get-out clause will allow Nike to decide in July next year whether to continue that agreement past the 2007-08 season.

And vice-president of sports marketing Ian Todd has admitted his company will be monitoring United's progress following their failure to win a trophy last season.

Todd told The Sunday Telegraph: "We don't know what is going to happen next year. All options are open.

"Chelsea won the league this year, Arsenal won the FA Cup and Liverpool won the Champions League. So you could argue that Manchester United is only the fourth-best club in England at the moment.

"If, for example, Manchester United failed to qualify for the Champions League next season, that might be a problem. We will look very carefully at this situation, as we do with all our sponsorship agreements."

Geez just when you need more pressure. Well let those b****es at Nike leave then, I am sure we can get a good sponsor.

One bad season, it happens, the season before we won FA cup. You cannot win something each season, retarded Nike.

Why don't you go fix up your child labour factories and then talk. Stupid pieces of selfish sh*t.

Manchester United have been backed by two of their sponsors a day after sportswear giants Nike issued a warning to the Old Trafford side.
Nike say they may reconsider their sponsorship deal - worth up to £303m - if the club continues to under-achieve.

But brewers Anheuser-Busch, who make Budweiser beer, say they remain "fully committed" to the club and its fans.

Bookies Ladbrokes said: "We're refusing to enter into this debate. We hope this matter eventually settles down."

Manchester United's takeover by American billionaire Malcolm Glazer has contributed to apprehension about the future.

Nike's deal began three years ago but it contains a break clause that can be invoked after six years.

Manchester United shirt sponsors Vodafone, the mobile phone group, also intend to discuss the terms of their deal with new owner Glazer.
