FAQ

General Questions

What is PakPassion Premier League?
PakPassion Premier is a fictional cricket league just like Indian Premier League in real life.

How the matches are played?
All the matches are played on Cricsim - The Cricket Simulator. For more information visit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Cricket_Simulator

How the simulator decides runs scored by a batsman/wickets taken by a bowler?
For batsmen, it takes things like batting average of the batsman, bowling average of the bowler batsman is facing, condition of the ball, pitch type, and a random factor under account to decide the runs. Same way for the bowlers.

How can I see a match?
Every match will have its own thread. You can go to that thread and check out the commentary link to read live ball by ball commentary of that match. After the match has ended, the complete scorecard and commentary of that match is posted in the thread.

How much time it takes for a match to finish?
Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes.

I see you also play in a team. How do I know you are not cheating???
You have to believe me. I am a very honest person.

How many times do you simulate a match?
If it’s my team’s match, then I play a few tryout matches to decide a competitive XI, then I tell myself, “The next match I am going to play will be the official match. No matter what happens I won’t play the match again”. Then I play the official match and do not play the match again.

Don’t you think that’s unfair?
Absolutely not. You can also download Cricsim and pick the starting XI for your team the same way I do. Also, by doing above, it doesn’t mean that my team will win all the time. For example: Against Karachi Khanjars in the last season, I played a few tryout matches to see how I can win against them, then I selected my starting XI, and played the official match, which we lost, but I didn’t go to the previous results or played another match.

What are the starting averages for new domestic players?
If you are a specialist bowler: your average is 30 bowling, 15 batting
if you are a specialist batsman: your average is 99 bowling, 35 batting
Batting All rounder: 30 batting, 40 bowling
Bowling All rounder: 25 batting, 35 bowling

How to join PakPassion Premier League?
Too late for that now. Wait for Season 3.

Who won Season 1?
Lahore Lightning Leopards. Karachi Khanjars were runner ups.

Manager Questions

What is the best strategy to pick my starting XI?
For batting, it’s always better to open with your international players, because even if they get out cheaply, their averages will remain the same. Probability of getting out is higher when facing the new ball and good bowlers, and lower when facing the old ball and not so good bowlers, so if you want to increase someone’s average, then it’s better to send them at 5 or even lower. But that’s especially when you are playing on a normal or bowling track. On a flat track, it doesn’t make much difference.

For bowling, their must be 6 bowlers in the team, because the simulator rarely picks only 5 bowlers. Sometimes it can even go beyond the 6th bowling option and picks up one of your batsmen to bowl an over or two if the team desperately needs a wicket or your main bowlers aren't helping much.

If you are playing on a flat pitch, then make sure that your bowlers don’t have an average of 80 or else they can go for a lot of runs!!!

Fast bowlers don’t take many wickets with the old ball, especially on flat and normal tracks, so it’s always good to have a spinner in your team.

What is the difference between an international player and a domestic player?
International player’s average remains the same throughout the league. Domestic player’s average fluctuates depending on his performance.

How many international players can be in the starting XI?
Max are 5.

How many ODI’s an international player needs to play to be eligible to play in the PakPassion Premier League.
5 ODI’s/10 List A matches

One of my international players has played more than 5 ODI’s, but his averages are poor, because he didn’t get a consistent run in his team, but he has potential and I want to play him in my team. Can I use his List A averages?
Yes. But you can’t do the opposite (Using someone’s ODI averages, because their List A averages are poor, and they have played less than 5 ODI’s).

1.Graeme Smith (Opening batsman)
2. MCMLXXXII (Opening batsman)
3. Plasma(vc) (Middle-order batsman)
4. Geordie Ahmed (wk) (Middle-order batsman)
5. Andrew Symonds (Middle-order batsman)
6. Mohsin_Pak786 (c) (Fast bowling all-rounder)
7. Andrew Flintoff (Right arm fast bowler)
8. Boi (Left handed fast swing bowler, lower order batsman)
9. Veggito1 (Left arm fast bowler)
10. Goldbrain (Right arm fast bowler)
11. Dale Steyn (Fiery opening fast bowler)

1st Bowler: Dale Steyn (to bowl last 3 overs of innings)
2nd Bowler:Andrew Flintoff
3rd Bowler: Mohsin_Pak786
4th Bowler: Plasma
5th Bowler: Veggito1
6th Bowler: Goldbrain
7th bowler Boi

Plasma the players dropped are 12thMan, Mercenary and kashif were given a rest to give Goldbrain, Veggito1 and MCMLXXXII a game and see how they do.

Is the team/bowling fine?:) 7 bowlers? I'd like to see a fast leftie bowling (Boi) and he bowled OK today?? A green pitch, would you like to have a bowl or should it be pure pace attack?

Since most people have questions about how I've allocated averages, this is how it's done (credits to The Blazer):

Batsmen: 35 batting average, 99 bowling average
Bowler: 15 batting average, 30 bowling average
Batting allrounder: 30 batting average, 40 bowling average
Bowling allrounder: 25 batting average, 35 bowling average

Means if you are a batsman and playing your first PPL match, then it's been assumed that you have already played a match in your career, and scored 35 runs, hence 35 average, and for example if you score 25 runs in the next match, then your average after 2 matches will become (35+25)/2=30.

Also, the above is for PP members only. International players' averages don't get affected after every match.

The max average for a batsman is 99, and the max average for a bowler is 80.

About the bowling orders: I have no control over the bowling orders. The simulator decides that, and I think it's doing a pretty good job. The simulator first choice seems to be the bowlers, who have less averages, unless they go for runs, so if you have more than 6 bowlers in your team, then it's likely that not everyone will get to bowl.

iZeeshan
23rd June 2008, 16:03
What happens after round 2?

FAM
23rd June 2008, 16:15
Same... Your second round score is added to your total runs and is divided by 3 to get your new average.

iZeeshan

So when do we have like quarterfinals or something.

Btw, next season, we should try and get more teams into this.

FAM
23rd June 2008, 16:25
We only got 5 teams this time, so having semi finals will be a joke. I think we should just have best of 3 finals.

SameerM
23rd June 2008, 16:26
FAM/Legend quick question...

My bowling average after 2 games is 83!!!

that means i must have leaked 90 runs in EACH of my two games.. which is not true!

Last game was 48 runs.. and 1 practice game 30 odd.. so my avg should be about 45.. not 83!!!

I think ur formula is a bit broken.. can u check? or is this the ICC final word ;-)

(i dont want to do an Akhtar, and take the PPL to court or anything - lets sort it internally!)

FAM
23rd June 2008, 16:37
No, you leaked only 83 runs.

1) A practice game - 35 runs, 1 wicket. 35 average.
2) PPL match - 48 runs, no wicket, no average

Bowler average = Runs given/wickets taken = 48+35/1=83/1=83. I hope my math is correct. Never been good at it.

90 is the max, means if your bowling average gets greater than 90, for example 100, then it will be lowered to 90.

For example Geordie's batting average is 103, but the simulator only accepts digits from 1-99, so his average is 99.

SameerM
23rd June 2008, 16:39
so u dont count the practice game? i'm sure u do otherwise my avg would be just 48!

no problem, just thought i'd check

FAM
23rd June 2008, 16:43
Yes, I do count the practice game. =) Otherwise your average would have been infinity. lol.

IMPORTANT EVERYONE!

From now on make sure that your team has at least 6 bowlers! No less than that, because I've noticed that the simulator never uses 5 bowlers, it always uses 6 with two bowlers with high averages sharing 5 overs each. Also in the few posts above, I said that the max average for a bowler will be 90, but I am lowering it to 80 (so SameerM you have 80 bowling average now), because anything above 80, and the simulator might not consider that bowler, and instead pick someone with 99 average, which would be a disaster. Good thing that I found this bug before simulating the next match, otherwise The Blazer's team would have got completely owned. :))

Another important thing about the bowlers:

If you are confused how the simulator chooses bowlers, then the formula is simple: Whoever has the less bowling average will get to bowl first, unless he is a spinner. Spinners don't bowl with the new ball, I've noticed.

Example of Multan Mughals lineup:

Their Bowlers:
Savak
Bunty
Rauf
Tanvir
Wazeeri
Saj

The simulator will pick them in the following order:
1) Rauf (10 overs) (15 bowling average)
2) Sohail (10 overs) (29 bowling average)
3) Wazeeri/Savak (10 overs) (35 bowling average)
4) Wazeeri/Savak (10 overs) (35 bowling average)
5) Saj (53 bowling average)
6) Bunty (78 bowling average)

5th and 6th bowler will share the 10 overs among them.

Ok, this thing takes a lot of time of my day, specially writing updates, and yesterday there was no one supporting their teams, which was kinda disappointing, so I am not doing them anymore. But that's one reason. Another reason is that I am graduating soon, and will be moving out in a week or so, so I wouldn't have Internet access for a few days, so I was just thinking to finish this as soon as possible (2/3 matches a day). It doesn't take much time to simulate the match. Next time we can organize it better by including more people (if we are writing match updates), cuz it's hard for one person to do it every day.

So from now on, I will do it in a cricsim.com way, like I will post one innings at a certain time, and then you can discuss about the performances and stuff, and then I will post the second. And you can always read the crcsim commentary to entertain yourself.

If you do need any PMs forwarding to any of the captains then just send it onto one of the staff members :)

FAM
28th June 2008, 20:41
Saj bhai, it's every captain's responsibility to keep track of their team threads, and if someone doesn't have time to do that, but have time to look up the rest of the forum, then it means that that person is not interested, and I wouldn't bother sending pm to the person, who is not interested and holding things off for others. No offence to anyone, but I like punctuality, and any delays **** me off BIG TIME. :)

As I have mentioned in two other threads already, I was indeed on PakPassion for bits and pieces (just because I'm online doesn't mean I'm browsing the site) but I was oblivious to our upcoming fixture and thus never bothered to check the thread which is of course my mistake but a genuine, honest one at that.

Saj
29th June 2008, 09:04
well FAM has made it crystal clear that its each of the captains and vice captains responsibilities to keep an eye on the fixtures etc etc. :)

If any of the captains are going to be busy, then maybe they can delegate some of the work to their vice captains.

FAM
29th June 2008, 20:39
So the first round is done, and the tournament is going well, and it wouldn’t have been possible without all your support and appreciation. Thank you.

By now I am sure everyone has got an idea about how the cricsim works, and how they should go about selecting their teams. I will just post what I have learned about the simulator, and give some tips:

Batting:
It’s always better to open with your international players, because even if they get out cheaply, their averages will remain the same.

Bowling:
Their must be 6 bowlers in the team as you know, because the simulator rarely picks only 5 bowlers. But sometimes it can go beyond the 6th bowling option and picks up one of your batsmen to bowl an over or two if the team desperately needs a wicket, and your main bowlers aren't helping much.

If you are playing on a flat pitch, then make sure that your bowlers don’t have an average of 80 or else they can go for a lot of runs!!!

Fast bowlers don’t take many wickets with the old ball, especially on flat and normal tracks, so it’s always good to have a spinner in your team.

iZeeshan
30th June 2008, 02:12
I don't think I can handle this.

I don't even know how to transfer scorecards, and have them in such neat order.

I am sorry, I volunteered too early. I really don't think I can do it.

I have taken 4 wicket in Punjab's second match giving only 25 runs, so It can't be right and rest of the 2 matches I have taken 5 more wickets :D

If you are a specialist bowler: your average is 30 bowling, 15 batting

Bowling allrounder: 25 batting, 35 bowling

In short, if your are a batsman, then scoring depends on your batting average, average of the bowler you are facing, pitch type, ball condition, and a random factor (luck).

Saj in last season was a thought that we will add support staff from PP team for smooth running of the tournament.
Just like BT.
So is it possible this time around?
Does any 1 know anything about legend?
FAM is also away from scene.
We can also do one more thing that we can assign the managing role to different people on rotational basis. We can pick two or three ppl and then they can work on turn by turn base.Like 2 matches per person by turn on rotation.
What do you guys think?
No response and no suggestion from any one. :( :(

Try and keep this thing alive guys, dont just leave it to dust in the back cupboard. Obviously if FAM is not available then no problemo, just let us know you are still OK with season 2 going on and you are active:)

Its fine, we're waiting on Easa anyway.

Actually, I think I am taking Easa out of duties. He hasn't published his Final squad, and I've told him about it. He NEVER checks anything. Haven't made a final decision yet, but I think FAM will be the new captain of Rawalpindi.

Mohsin

If by the time FAM starts proceedings (starts to become active for the tourny etc) Easa is still not paying any attention, then i'm afraid he will have to be demoted.
Like Zee said, FAM can become captain

PPL Season 2 Preview

G’day and welcome to the preview of what i'm sure in going to be another great season in the PPL! My name is Tony Grieg, and alongside me are two of the great’s Wasim Akram and Ian Chappell.

http://img.cricinfo.com/awards-tonygrieg_50x50.jpg Well there has been an addition to number of teams competing this season with the Peshawar Princes joining the 5 other teams so a warm welcome to Peshawar and Peshawar’s manager, the former Multan manager funnily enough, Mr Straight Bat.
Wasim first of all yourself, who do you think is the team to watch out for this season and why?

http://www.outlookindia.com/images/akram_thumb_030210.jpg Well Tony, obviously you have last season’s champions, Lahore Leapords who funnily enough have also had a managerial change, from Mr Blazer to Mr Imranahmed_khan. They played suberb cricket last season to go all the way, especially in the final where they blew away Karachi with some phenomenal performances.
Saying that, I think in terms of new signings, you have to look at Punjab Panthers. I mean they had a good squad last season but after a wonderful start in the first round, the completely fell apart in round 2 which really cost them. During the close season a few players were bought in, which I think will really bring a heck of a lot to the Punjab team.

http://img.cricinfo.com/awards-tonygrieg_50x50.jpgOK Wasim, so Lahore, the defending champions and Punjab. Ian, if you were a betting man who would your money be on and why?

http://www.abc.net.au/tv/enoughrope/img/2006/ep28/chappell03.jpg Well Tony, as you know I’m not a betting man (little chuckle) but the team i would back is Karachi all the way. The way they performed last season was especially excellent with a couple of stand out performances, especially Monsee who averaged a whopping 405! HE IS the player to watch out for this season, definitely top batsman of PPL along with Goldbrain and Viggito of Punjab Panthers as PPL’s top bowlers.

http://img.cricinfo.com/awards-tonygrieg_50x50.jpgJeez-lewease, so Wasim the teams for you are Lahore and Punjab and Ian the team to back is Karachi. Interesting! Well I have to say, we must keep an eye on Multan and Rawalpindi. Both teams have done some serious shopping during the off season and will definitely be looking dangerous and rejuvenated this time around. As for the new comers Peshawar, it’s kind of tough in regards to them. They are a new team with new players but wow, what a bunch of players! You’ve got the Zulu himself, Lance Klusener making his PPL bow as well as the spin wizard himself, Saqlain Mushtaq! No doubt we’ll be seeing plenty of sixes and Doosra’s!
So fella’s we’re running out of time, are there anymore new international signing’s you’re looking forward to seeing this season?

http://www.outlookindia.com/images/akram_thumb_030210.jpgWell Tony just the one for me, and that is Ajanta Mendis, and just can’t wait for the magic he’ll be weaving upon the opposition batsman, it really is mouth watering!

http://www.abc.net.au/tv/enoughrope/img/2006/ep28/chappell03.jpgWell actually for me it has to be a person who isn’t that entirely well known mind you, but seems to have quite a lot of potential, Mudassar Bukhari. I haven’t seen much of him to be honest, but he may well turn out to be a surprise package for the opposition.

http://img.cricinfo.com/awards-tonygrieg_50x50.jpgWasim, Ian thanks to both of you for your thoughts, much appreciated.
Well folks, there you have it, a little taste to what to expect and look forward to in the coming season, I hope you’ll all join us throughout the season.
The first match in in August 12th at Gaddafi stadium, Lahore with last years finalists Karachi, battling it out in the curtain raiser, so watch that but until then it’s a goodbye from Wasim, Ian and myself.

Well yeah the averages from the last season must be carried or else there is no point. I'd do a one man riot!

Lahore vs Karachi Game 1
Match Preview

http://img.cricinfo.com/awards-tonygrieg_50x50.jpg G’day, I’m Tony Greig and welcome to the preview of the very first match of PPL season 2. It’ll be taking place between both finalists of the inaugural tournament, Lahore Leopards and Karachi Kanjars so no doubt a top class contest in store for viewers. Alongside myself to have a look at this mouth watering clash are two cricketing heavyweights themselves, Waqar Younis and Dean Jones.

Well then, lets have a look at the past records between these 2 teams. Altogether they’ve played 4 games with Lahore coming out on top winning a whopping 3 with Karachi’s lone win coming during the group stages, so Karachi will be looking for revenge straight away this season, with Lahore looking to better that record and maintain their dominance over Karachi.
So Waqar you must be looking forward to this season, new teams, new expectations and a fair few new players too!

http://www.rediff.com/wc2003/2002/nov/19tig.gif Well Tony, definitely i mean the inaugural edition was axcellent with quite a few close matches, just a shame that in the finals Karachi didn’t turn up at all. Saying that, i’m quite sure Karachi will be looking to go all the way this time around and to be honoest I see no reason why not. They’re not the strongest team in terms of big names on paper, but they play their cricket with no fear what so ever and of course, when you’ve got a player like Mosee paa jee scoring runs almost at will you know you’ve got some batting firepower!

http://img.cricinfo.com/awards-tonygrieg_50x50.jpgI see, well Deano first of all welcome back nice to have you here! Waqar’s saying that Karachi is the team for tomorrow’s game, what about you, do you agree?

http://www.theage.com.au/ffximage/2006/11/30/th_jones_dean_index-thumb__60x40,0.jpg Hah!! I think Waqar’s been at it again I mean just look at their records against Lahore! Lahore have come to be the dominating side over and over again and I see no reason what so ever why that wont be the case once again tomorrow. I mean, jeez-leweez just have a look at their performances last season, they didn’t get off to a flying start but the slowly and more importantly at the right time, pushed on and did their job. What was the result? Winning those important crunch games, those pressure games when it really mattered and because of that late winning streak, they could use the momentum in the final to blow away the opposite, which they did!!!!! And talking of pressure, just look at how Karachi dealt with the pressure last season……….HAH!! Wilted like a pack of cards, to be honest at times Lahore played cricket like Pakistan. Ruthless, brave and explosive! The only similarity between Karachi and the Pakistan national team? PRESSURE! They both can’t play under pressure, and I sure hope for their sake that they would have addressed these pressure issues, or else………its one heck of a pounding for Karachi! Forget Karachi Kanjars, everyone’ll say Karachi COWARDS of they continue like they did last season!!!!!!!!!!!

http://img.cricinfo.com/awards-tonygrieg_50x50.jpgWOW! Deano really laying into Karachi there, giving them no chance what so ever! (Deano interrupts) They’re useless Waqar, USELESS!
(back to TG) OK Deano, you’ve had your say, ha ha ha.
Waqar, Deano are there any player we should especially look forward to seeing tomorrow?

http://www.rediff.com/wc2003/2002/nov/19tig.gifWell i’m glad you asked that Tony, i mean i mentioned him before and i’ll mention him again, Monsee! This man is a legend, average a phenomenal 405 in the first season and no doubt he’ll be looking for more runs this season. He’s Karachi’s main key, if he fires then the rest can fire. I suppose he’s the Inzi of the team, the rest will be looking to him and looking to bat around him. BUT it Lahore get him early, then who knows.
In regards to international players, to be honest I don’t see any special stand out performers in there. You’ve maybe got Murali, maybe he’ll be able to wave his wand but I doubt it.
