FAM

Welcome to the second PakPassion Premier League match between Karachi Khanjars and Punjab Panthers. The match is being played in Karachi. Our pitch reporter says that it’s a very good pitch, and we will see an evenly balanced contest between bat and bowl.

Panthers better bat first, we can defend the total with bowlers like Styne, Flintoff, and Kashif!

Match Update 1

Raz and Afridi opened the batting for KK, while Flintoff opened the bowling for PP. Afridi looked to be in his usual mood as he tried to smash Flintoff out of the ground in the very first over, but was lucky not to get an edge on two occasions. 4 runs came off the first over.

Match Update 2

Afridi welcomed Mercenary to PPL by hitting a boundary on his first delivery, followed by another boundary on the third delivery. Afridi stole 12 runs off the over, and KK were off to a flying start.

Match Update 3

kashiff77 came to bowl the third over. It seemed that the captain Mohsin_Pak786 was trying to mix up the bowlers as not to let Afridi get used to one bowler. Kashiff77 bowled a pretty tight over, giving away only two runs.

Match Update 4

Mercenary, who had gone for 12 runs in his last over, courtesy to Afridi, came to bowl again, and you could see the nervousness on his face clearly. His first ball was a no ball, but Afridi missed it. On his second ball, Afridi had a wild swing, but missed it again. Geordie Ahmed, the wicket keeper, went for an appeal, but the ball was nowhere near the bat. Afridi turned around and gave him a beastly look.

Out came the 3rd ball, it pitched outside off, Afridi had a wild swing again and skied it in the air, and kashiff77 didn’t make any mistake taking an easy catch. Mercenary was delighted!

Match Update 5

iZeeshan, the captain, was the next man in. He joined Raz, and they both approached their innings very cautiously. It looked like that they were trying to save up their wickets, and then go for the slogging at the end. Good strategy that. But the Karachi crowd wasn’t pleased with the tactics as they started “Boring! Boring!” chants, but you gotta give credit to PP bowlers too, specially Steyn and Flintoff, who were bowling at very tight line and length.

Match Update 6

They slowly reached 94/1 in 24 overs when the captain iZeeshan decided to accelerate his innings. He hit a six off kashiff77’s bowling in the 25th over, and KK passed 100 runs.

The next over was done by Flintoff, who had been bowling wonderfully. iZeeshan tried to hit him for a few, but got beaten. You could clearly see the frustration on his face.

Mohsi'k786, the PP captain, came to the bowl the next over. iZeeshan, the KK captain, was going to face the first ball, so it was captain vs captain contest. How exciting!

Mohsi'k786 did a huge appeal for LBW on the first ball, but it was denied. On the second delivery, iZeeshan pushed the ball gently toward covers, and went for a run, but Raz wasn’t interested at all. iZeeshan looked at Andrew Symonds, the cover fielder, hopelessly, as he aimed the stumps at the keeper’s side and nailed them, running iZeeshan out. As iZeeshan walked back to the pavilion, the stump microphone clearly caught him calling Symonds, “Sala Khanjar.”

Match Update 9

The pressure was mounting for KK. They were 4 wickets down, and there was not much score on the board. SameerM was the next man in, and both he and Monsee decided to go full defense. They both played for 11 overs, and made only 39 runs. At the start of 41st over, SameerM decided to slog, and came down the wicket against Steyn, and tried to hit him over the head, but Steyn bowled a good yorker and shattered his stumps.

Brendon McCullum was the next man in, and he showed KK how to accelerate the innings. He hit 6 boundaries, and made 34 off 34. On the other hand, Monsee struggled to make runs quickly, and hit only 2 boundaries.

So due to KK losing wickets at the wrong time, and some economical bowling from PP bowlers, specially from Steyn and Flintoff, KK were restricted to just 205 runs off 50 overs.

This was just a warm up, like all khanjars, we start firing when the pressure is on ;-)

good game btw.. i think our top order needs calming down, and for not giving KK's middle order a good platform

ps. how can i be an opening bowler with an avg of 83? shouldnt it be more like 33 ?

FAM
23rd June 2008, 10:34
You started with 35 bowling average. It has been assumed that you've already played a match and took a wicket for 35 runs, but after this match, in which you gave 48 runs for no wicket, your average became 35+48=83/1 wicket=83.

Don't worry when you will play on a bowler's wicket, then you will get some wickets, and your average will go down. =)

SameerM
23rd June 2008, 12:29
no problem FAM.. i was just querying how the averages were 'madeup'..

hopefully, it was a fair way of allocating the averages.. since i assume ur simulator, will use averages to an extent.

ps. I had a run out yesterday, in REAL cricket.. and batted 25 balls for 19 runs and got no wickets... so i guess this simulator is quite realistic!

ps. Captain IZee, why didnt u let Afridi bowl an over? ;-)

FAM
23rd June 2008, 12:42
This is how I allocated averages:
Batsmen: 35 batting average, 99 bowling average
Bowler: 15 bowling average, 30 bowling average
Batting allrounder: 30 batting average, 40 bowling average
Bowling allrounder: 25 batting average, 35 bowling average

iZeeshan
23rd June 2008, 13:04
Hmm, Sameer, I am not sure. To my knowledge, he should have been bowling a few, eh FAM?

FAM
23rd June 2008, 13:22
Because he has been chosen as a batsman in your team, not as an allrounder.

Raz
Shahid Afridi
iZeeshan*
Monsee
Zeenix
SameerM
Brendon McCullum+
Pak_Pace
b0wled
Umar Gul
Muttiah Muralitharan

Bowling order:

Umar Gul, Pak_Pace
Raz as first change
Muralitharan for some spin
then b0lwed again
And SameerM for a few overs

No Afridi in your bowling list.

Also when I posted the teams, I posted the following stats for Afridi:

Shahid Afridi
Batting Hand: Right
Average: 23
Bowling: Right Arm Leg Spin
Average: 99 99 = no bowling.

But I can make him a bowler, no problems, just mention him as a bowler in your next match.

Cant wait for todays game.

I am still waiting for The Blazer to clear something up. As soon as he clears it up, the game will start.

Why was I dropped in the second game after my great bowling in the first?
Don't feel bad, my bowling has been dropped as well! :6:

On a more serious note its what GA said, we have quite a few bowlers and we needed to try them out.

When can we start the game?

We can just have imranahmedkhan bowl, I'll tell myself, Afridi, and other batsmen to go easy on him.
