View Full Version : PakPassion Premier League Match 3: PP vs MM

FAM
23rd June 2008, 17:56
Welcome to the third PakPassion Premier League match between Punjab Panthers and Multan Mughals. The match is being played at Multan. Our pitch reporter, Nura Red, says that it’s a poorly prepared pitch and will favor bowlers a lot. Expect a low scoring match.

Punjab Panthers are on high after their comprehensive victory over Karachi Khanjars yesterday, but could they repeat the same performance against Multan Mughals today on a bowler’s friendly wicket? Only the time will tell.

Players to watch out for:

Punjab Panthers: Geordie Ahmed, who is averaging 99 with the bat!
Multan Mughals: Abdur Rauf, who is averaging 15 with the ball!

Punjab Panthers have dropped, or as they like to say, rested 12thMan, kashif77, and Mercenary to give a chance to Goldbrain, Veggito1, and MCMLXXXII. Some might say that dropping 12thMan was a big mistake, because he was in a good form. Mohsin_Pak786 will have to answer lots of questions after the match if his decision of dropping 12thMan came back to bite him.

Match Update 1

Savak and the vice captain Hari Sombar came to open the innings for MM. Flintoff had the ball in his hand. He had bowled very economically in the last match, and he must be licking his lips today, because today he was bowling on a bowler’s friendly wicket.

Savak confidently played the first ball and they ran for two. Flintoff did an LBW appeal on his fourth delivery, but the ball had pitched outside off, so it was denied. 4 runs came off the first over, and MM were off to a confident start.

Match Update 2

Boi was given the ball to bowl the next over. He beat the batsmen on a few occasions, but was unlucky to get a nick. He bowled a good first over, giving away only 3 runs.

Mohsin_Pak786 brought Steyn for the second over, and Savak hit him for a 4 through covers. That was the first boundary for MM. 8 runs came off the over.

Mohsin_Pak786 was rotating the bowlers as he gave Flintoff the ball again. It was the good over as only 1 run came off the over.

Goldbrain was the next bowler, and Hari Sombar hit him for a boundary off his legs on his second delivery.

The next ball was pitched short. Hari went for a pull, but got an edge, and the ball went up flying in the air. Boi came underneath it, and took a good catch.

Match Update 3

Misbah was the next man in, and he got beaten twice off the next two deliveries by Goldbrain, who was getting good movement from the pitch. At the end of the over, Misbah went to Savak, and they made a plan to play very carefully, because the pitch was acting very funny.

They started to approach their innings cautiously. Plasma came to bowl his first over of the league, and bowled a full toss, and Savak couldn’t help hitting him for a six. Misbah patted Savak on the shoulder, and reminded him not to get carried away. Savak made a face, because playing defensively was not his style, but meh… Misbah was a senior player.

Mohsin_Pak786 feeling the pressure of the partnership developing kept changing his bowlers, hoping that someone would get him a breakthrough. But MM batsmen were playing well. Misbah scored his first boundary off Boi’s bowling as he hit him over his head for a four.

The over went for 7 runs, and at the end of 12 overs, MM were 56/1.

Match Update 4

Veggito1 came to bowl the next over, and he bowled a very ordinary delivery outside the off stump. Misbah tried to guide it toward third man, but got an inside edge and the ball took off his off stump. Misbah couldn’t believe it and neither could Veggitto1 who had just taken a very important wicket of Misbah.

Match Update 5

MM captain Straight Bat was the next man in. On the other hand, Savak was getting restless, because thanks to Misbah, he couldn’t play his natural game, but now since Misbah was gone, he decided to play his natural game.

But as they say, you should always listen to your elders, but Savak didn’t, and he went to smash Steyn out of the park, but Steyn bowled a slower delivery, got an inside edge, and nailed Savak’s middle stump. Savak was disappointed.

MM was in huge trouble, and Kumar Sangakkara was the next man in, and he was the key man for MM. Both he and the captain decided to go full defense and play till the 50th over, because of the ugly pitch.

Boi came to bowl the 18th over, and pitched the ball full outside off, and SB smashed it toward covers for four. Boi didn’t look too happy. Flintoff came running toward him, and said something in his ear. Boi nodded, went back to his bowling mark, came running in to the crease, and bowled the same delivery, this time taking some pace out of it, but SB went for the same shot again, and found the ball in MCMLXXXII’s hands in covers.

Buntylover_200 came to join Kumar Sangakkara, and they both decided to just hang around and take runs whenever possible. Their main plan seemed to get at least 150 runs on the board, which seemed to be enough on this wicket. One thing to note was that there had been no boundary since the 19th over, and overall only four 4’s and one six were hit by MM batsmen.

Plasma came to bowl the 40th over, and he bowled a slow full toss at Buntylover_200 who couldn’t resist hitting it outside the park, but found a fielder on the boundary, and Plasma got his first wicket.

Geordie Ahmed, the man in form, was the next man in, and he showed his form by hitting two boundaries off Saj’s first over. He tried to do the same to Tanvir, but Tanvir bowled a slower delivery, and Geordie skied the ball in the air. Hari Sombar ran back, and took a diving catch to dismiss Geordie Ahmed. Symonds, another man in form, was next. Tanvir hit him twice on his pads, but the umpire refused the appeal both times.

Wazeeri came to bowl, and troubled Symonds a bit with his leg spins. He was getting huge turn off the wicket.

On the other hand, MCM was playing very confidently, and had scored 41 off 50 deliveries with the help of 3 boundaries. SB brought Rauf back again, and he again didn’t disappoint his captain as he got ANOTHER inside edge and took off MCM’s off stump. That’s the 3rd wicket for Rauf.

Match Update 25

SB had no choice, but to give Bunty'_200 the ball, because Rauf had already finished his spell. Symonds and Veggito1 ran for a quick run again on the first ball, putting Symonds on strike. Symonds tried to flick the ball toward fine leg for a four, but it hit his pads, and MM went for a huge appeal, but it was turned down. The next ball was short, and Symonds pulled it toward leg. It seemed that it was going to be a four, but Tanvir dived and saved a certain boundary. Good to see MM still fighting.

But the scores were level, and PP only needed one run to win. Bunty'_200 bowled a slower delivery to Veggito1, Veggito1 tried to smash it out of the park, but skied the ball in the air, Rauf came underneath it, and… and… DROPPED! But Symonds and Veggito1 had completed a run, and won the game for their team.

So due to some drop catches from MM, and some umpiring decisions not going in their favor, they might be feeling that they had been robbed of a certain win, but let’s not take any credit away from Symonds and Boi, who both held their nerves, didn’t play any silly shots, and showed everyone how to bat on this wicket.

End of innings (40.4 overs)
PUNJAB PANTHERS 159/7 (RR: 3.93)
Buntylover_200 9.4-0-43-0

I am the Shoaib Akhtar of this squad. Dissapointed with the loss and my performance with the bat even though i topscored, i should have had a better strike rate than 80.

Yaar, please read my post about the bowling orders in the main thread. Link: http://www.pakpassion.net/ppforum/showpost.php?p=1540267&postcount=26

By the way you would have come to bowl the next over for sure, and would have bowled at least 5 overs if there were more runs on the board. The other bowlers when given the bowl bowled well, so the simulator persisted with them till the end.

The simulator will pick you as a first change bowler in the next match as far as I know, because now your average (35) is better than the some bowlers who bowled.

As long as your strike rate is concerned, it's a difficult pitch to bat on. =)
