Rameez Raja: Hello and good evening to all! Welcome to the Blazed Digital production in association with PakPassion of the Pakistani Premier League. Tonight, we are at the Iqbal Stadium in Faislabad for the Punjab Panthers' home Second Round fixture against the Multan Mughals.
Weather Forecast
http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e273/TheBlazer/Weather.jpg
It's a hot and humid evening here in Faisalabad as there were heavy showers earlier in the day- Fortunately, the Panthers' groundsmen did a terrific job in drying up the outfield in time for this match- The temperature is still floating around the 30c mark; however it is expected to drop slightly as the evening progresses. Nevertheless, it is still, by all means, going to a dehydrating and sticky experience out there in the middle, and I'm sure that the hot wind blowing north-west will not aid the players or give them any respite.
The sun has set and the spanking new floodlights are on in their full glory here in the Iqbal Stadium- What a spectacle it is. I was looking at the pitch earlier and it appears to be a dry and dusty track with a tinge of light coating of grass on it. It's my opinion that it will still compliment the batsmen more, but winning the toss will be crucial as the pitch will begin to open up as the game progresses and in this heat and humidty, a large first innings total will be extremely difficult to chase down.
http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e273/TheBlazer/stadium.jpg
The recently renovated Iqbal Stadium- A full house for the Punjab game tonight.
The game is set to begin in 30 minutes and news from the middle is that Waqar Younis is down there with the two captains for the all important coin toss!
http://www.smh.com.au/ffximage/2004/12/01/_waqaryounis_index-thumb__60x40.jpg
Waqar Younis: Good evening Faisalabad! Just listen to that deafening noise- A terrific atmosphere for what should be a terrific game. I've got the Punjab Panthers' and Multan Mughals' captains down here. It's Mohsin to call and it's...
Heads.
The Mughals have called correctly. Straight Bat, what are you going to do?
Straight Bat: Well Waqar, we're going to bat first. It looks like the pitch may be a bit slow tonight, but by batting first we can set our own pace and look to score a competitive total. Given the hot climate, we'll look to put the opposition fielders under pressure and in my opinion anything around 250 will be a job well done.
http://www.smh.com.au/ffximage/2004/12/01/_waqaryounis_index-thumb__60x40.jpg
Waqar Younis: Thanks, SB. Mohsin, did you want to bat first?
Mohsin: Ideally yes, but this may turn out to be a blessing in disguise. We'll have ample time to gauge the measure of this pitch and if we can restrict the Mughals to a low score, then batting second in cooler conditions shouldn't be too bad.
http://www.smh.com.au/ffximage/2004/12/01/_waqaryounis_index-thumb__60x40.jpg
Waqar Younis: Well, there you have it! The Multan Mughals have won the toss and decided to bat first. We'll be back in a few minutes with the pre-match coverage.
Loving it. :D Well done Blazer.

Rameez Raja: It's all set to be a fascinating encounter tonight and as the players warm up on the outfield, let's have a quick look at the Players To Watch.
http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e273/TheBlazer/sanga.jpg
The Mughals' international star wicketkeeper has a job to do tonight in the heat and humidity of Faisalabad. This slow track will not be the easiest to bat on, and Kumar will need to quickly adjust his game and act as a cornerstone for the Mughals. If he can help them accelerate to a good steady start, and then do a tidy job behind the stumps in the second half of the match, then the Mughals really will have a big chance of winning this one.
http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e273/TheBlazer/albie.jpg
The explosive South African all-rounder will have to rise to the challenge of the Mughals this evening and help the Panthers make some early inroads. A genuine 90mph bowler, Albie may have a bit of trouble extracting pace from this track, but if he can keep it accurate, then there's every chance in the world that he'll come away with something. But perhaps more importantly, his batting in the second innings may make or break the game for the Panthers. He will have the home crowd behind him tonight, but can he deliver?
If Multan win this, they will have 4 points, and three matches to go, so they will still be in the tournament. Basically final 2 spots are still up for grabs. Gonna be exciting as the tournament goes on.

Maybe for the future matches we can have pictures of the captains at the toss and other things. I dont mean real pics but pics of real cricketers which the tactics employed by the person reminds the person of (if u get me)
For example, if we had a team who was completely rubbish we could have the Zimbabwean captain or Steve Tikolo...
:):):D
lol. Good idea. And I think 'Players to Watch out For' should be PP members instead of Internationals whenever possible, but again, there won't be any pictures for them.

MATCH UPDATE 1
http://www.smh.com.au/ffximage/2006/11/16/th_geoff_boycott_index-thumb__60x40,0.jpg
Geoffrey Boycott: And out walk Chris Gayle and Kumar Sangakkara- An exciting opening prospect for the Mughals; they'll either be explosive or else self-destruct. And I have my reservations about Gayle! This is by no means the quickest of tracks, so let's see what this power hitter makes of his innings.
It's Goldbrain to take the new ball and in he comes charging in with full gusto. Second ball in and it's a huge shout for LBW against Gayle! Turned down! The Panthers' are all on their toes, closing in like vultures. Gayle seems a bit shook up- Hit out or get out, lad! In the end, they managed to scamper 5 risky singles from the over.
Veggito1 took up the other end and bowled a tight over, getting some sharp nip of the pitch. The bounce is low though; Sangakkara did well to negotiate those balls. Only 3 runs off the over.
Gayle escaped another big LBW appeal- That should've been given- in Goldbrain's second over. The West Indian is looking all at sea out there! Another 5 singles are somehow salvaged from the over; however, not the quickest of starts from the Mughals. Slow down any further and I assure you my grandmother would nonchalantly score at a faster rate!
Immediate and surprising change by bringing on the promising Albie Morkel for the fourth over- And yes! He strikes first ball! Ugly slash from Gayle and an absolutely astonishing catch from Plasma at point! Take a bow, my son! Gayle has to go- His misery comes to an end!

MATCH UPDATE 2
http://www.smh.com.au/ffximage/2006/11/16/th_geoff_boycott_index-thumb__60x40,0.jpg
Geoffrey Boycott: Dynamic all-rounder Shane Watson was in next. The boy has a real job to do now after the pathetic display from Gayle- 2 runs from the over and a brilliant start from Morkel.
Sangakkara however took charge and hit the steady Goldbrain vehemently first up, the ball crashing through the covers and rolling at lightning quick pace through the outfield to hit the advertising boards beyond the ropes. Goldbrain however came back strongly and got his third- unsuccessful- LBW appeal; this time against Watson. This lad really is moving the ball around tonight! If he keeps it up, then he is guaranteed to get rewarded with a wicket or two!
Another sudden change as Veggito1 is bought back to replace the pumped up Morkel. Watson laid into him very first ball, as he played a quite extraordinary cover drive that reminded me of the good old days! That'll relieve the pressure a little bit. And- Oh my! Last ball of the over and Veggito1 strikes! What a corker of a delivery! Watson's stumps are all over the place- That was an 88mph snorter!

MATCH UPDATE 3
http://www.smh.com.au/ffximage/2006/11/16/th_geoff_boycott_index-thumb__60x40,0.jpg
Geoffrey Boycott: The Mughals were under tremendous pressure already in this away fixture and the sight of Morkel coming back for another blood pumping over was not exactly morale boosting for the batsmen! New comer to the crease Sombar however was unfazed by the situation and pulled Morkel for an imperious four, getting a healthy 8 runs off the over altogether.
Veggito1 reeled things back a bit, bowling a tight over and conceding 4 runs off it. Sangakkara though looks like he's about to tee off!
Another change as Plasma is brought on- Mohsin is keeping things diverse out there. Anymore quick changes and he'll leave me confused as well up here in the commentary box! A good over until the last ball when complacency crept in and Sagakkara pounced on the chance, sending the ball crashing into the hoardings.
Morkel has switched ends and comes in again- And fourth ball of the over Sangakkara cuts- And cuts hard! That's another boundary for the Mughals' keeper! He seems to be getting the measure of this pitch.

Wasim Akram: The Mughals were looking to get back into the match and Indian youngster Sombar showed his dominance by taking Goldbrain to the cleaners. A few more shots like this and the Mughals will be clear out of the woods!
The economical Veggito1 continued from the other end and bowled some sharp deliveries, including a LBW appeal that was turned down- And, what's this? A dropped catch! Oh no! Sangakkara gets ahead of himself and comes down the track and tries to clear the stadium- Instead he gets an outside edge and the ball floats down to Gambhir at third man who drops it! Veggito1 and Mohsin are justifiably furious! Gambhir can't bear to make eye contact! An angry Veggito1 came running in again and- Yes! Yes! Sombar goes! South African captain Smith with a brilliant diving catch to dismiss the Mughal batsman!

MATCH UPDATE 5
http://www.outlookindia.com/images/akram_thumb_030210.jpg
Wasim Akram: As expected, the runrate began to drop as Sangakkara and Straight Bat looked to consolidate. However, the next few overs were not without incident. Sangakkara was once again dropped off the bowling of Veggito1, this time by Morkel, who dived forward and spilled what was not altogether too difficult a chance! And that's twice now that the Mughals' keeper has been dropped! Panthers may be on top- But if they keep giving a player of Sangakkara's calibre all these chances, then they are bound to suffer sooner or later!
And then Morkel himself was made to suffer as Symonds- who is normally a very safe pair of hands- dropped the Mughals' skipper Straight Bat off his bowling. This is very poor stuff from Punjab- They have made the early breakthroughs, and yet they are failing to put the nail in the coffin! This may come back to haunt them later!
Skipper Mohsin came on to bowl an over and his counter-part SB provided him with a warm greeting to the crease by first cutting him for four and then coming down the track and cooly dispatching a low fulltoss for another boundary. The Mughals desperately need this partnership to prosper if they want to want to have any chance in this game.

http://www.smh.com.au/ffximage/2004/12/01/_waqaryounis_index-thumb__60x40.jpg
Waqar Younis: An interesting battle is taking place here between bat and ball. Buuttta I think that Sangakkara, now that he has his eye in, has the opportunity to raise the tempo and quickly take this game away from the Panthers. Tight overs from Veggito1 and Plasma followed, but Mohsin was subject to more misery as SB tried to slog sweep him and holed out deep- Only to be dropped by Plasma who had an earlier taken a brilliant catch at point! Whata waaaaaaanderful wicket that would've been! But Punjab's misfortune continues!
Morkel was brought back in a bid to get a breakthrough, but Sangakkara negotiated him skilfully and on-drove him for a breathtaking four, bringing up his 50- It hasn't been chanceless, but it was desperately required by Multan!

Waqar Younis: Khanz141 was the new man to the crease and Sangakkara gave him clear instructions to play himself in and give support to the Sri Lankan keeper. Sangakkarra himself went after Morkel once again, charging him and smashing the ball to the boundary ropes. Morkel was in no way amused and the very next ball tried to bounce the Mughal- Sangakkara, rather unwisely, once again came down the track, got a top edge and- No! Dropped by Veggito1 near the boundary! Disgraceful stuff yet again from Punjab! How many chances is this man going to get?
Khanz141 joined in the fun by slogging Morkel over his head for a savage four and then pulling Goldbrain for a powerful looking boundary. Geoffrey Boycott: Now these boys are in a spot of bother. The pitch has really slowed down now- The facing batsman and wicket keeper have ample time to have a cup of tea and a nice chat before the ball arrives. Sangakkara, the lone gunman, is trying to keep things flowing, but it's proving to be rather difficult. Momentum is most definitely with Punjab now. Just think, if they had not dropped those fifty catches or so, this innings would've been well over by now!
Sangakkara got Plasma away with a late cut, but that proved to be the only boundary for a few overs, as Morkel finished a good spell. Sangakkara eventually succumbed to the pressure as he tried taking on Plasma but only ended up holing out to deep mid-on. Huge blow for Multan! Sangakkara lad, just what were you doing! I would've expected more from an experienced campaigner like him. Multan really have a fight on their hands now.

Geoffrey Boycott: With the lower-order batsmen at the crease now, it really was just a job of containing and getting regular wickets. And unlike their horrendous fielding, this is something that the Panthers did not fail in tonight. Savak was next to go, as he tried to slog Goldbrain but ended up giving an easy catch to MCMLXXXII at mid-off.

MATCH UPDATE 11
http://img.cricinfo.com/awards-ravishastri_50x50.jpg
Ravi Shahstri: At long last, we are all ready and about to commence with the second innings of this match between Punjab and Multan. The wait over the last two nights has been unbearable, but with heavy showers and lightning plaguing Faisalabad, the players and officials alike have had no choice but to wait it out. Many said that the game should be washed out, but with it being a fixture of such paramount importance, the PCB decided to be very patient in their approach and full credit to them- Finally we are able to resume the game and once again it’s close to a full house here at the Iqbal Stadium. The sun has just started to set over the horizon, the foodlights are slowly coming on one by one- The atmosphere and banter is terrific.
And the sight that everyone’s been waiting for- Gautam Gambhir and MCMLXXXII are striding out to the middle to begin the run chase for the Panthers. They’ve been set a total of 211 at just over 4.3 runs per over. At face value this may seem like an easy chase, but as we already know, anything can happen in the PPP. The rainfall has clogged up the outfield and with the added dew factor tonight, the pitch is going to be as unpredictable as ever. It’s the Panthers’ international icon Gambhir to take strike as Rauf stretches himself at the beginning of his run-up. First up, Sangakkara fumbled behind the stumps after his gritty innings, allowing the batsmen to scamper through for a single. A misfield by Savak the following ball allowed another single, after which Gambhir and MCML took some risky runs to get six runs off the first over.
Tanvir took up the new ball from the other end and got in a huge LBW appeal against Gambhir- No! Turned down! The umpire said it was going down past leg. Lazy fielding by Saj bought the total runs off the over to 5.
Rauf came back with a very tight over and was ready to concede minimal runs off his over until on the sixth ball, Gambhir took the initiative and came down the track and absolutely smashed him through the covers for a spanking boundary.
Straight Bat, like his counter-part Mohsin, looked to shake up things early by introducing Watson into the attack. Three dot balls followed, the Aussie all-rounder extracting significant swing. The fourth strayed down leg and MCML flicked it away and through the process of excellent running, turned two runs into three. Fifth ball- And that’s a huge appeal! Sangakkara is roaring, both arms in the air! The umpire immediately shakes his head- That one definitely stayed low; a prime example of the two-faced nature of this pitch.
Tanvir came back for a second and conceded five off the over, including an absolute snorter of a delivery that whistled past Gambhir’s nose. This isn’t just the Panthers against the Mughals- This is India vs Pakistan! The Panthers however, in the context of the game, have made a solid start to the innings, scoring at exactly 5 an over and have bought down the required run rate to 4.13.
Rauf conceded just three off his next over, getting both pace and bounce from a pitch that was slow and dusty two days ago. Another LBW appeal came against MCML that was turned down- The way these bowlers are going at it, something surely has to give soon!
Tanvir got a very tight over in and- Another LBW appeal! This one was a bit optimistic though. Watson conceded five off his due to some excellent committed running and some less-than-impressive fielding from the Mughals. The impressive looking Rauf then charged in again and MCML greeted him by smashing him back over his head for an imperious looking four. Rauf was clearly not impressed, and the very next ball with a grunt of effort got a toe-crushing Yorker into the batsman’s boots- Big shout! Huge shout! No! Umpire shakes his head and walks away from it all, signalling that MCML clearly got some bat involved in that. The Mughals were not happy with the decision- However, Rauf did the right thing by channelling his frustration into his bowling and this dedication paid dividends on the fifth ball of the over as Gambhir tried a daring drive on one knee and only succeeded in dragging the ball back onto his stumps! Out! A big breakthrough, and much needed by the Mughals!

Ravi Shahstri: Graeme Smith was the next man in, playing out of usual opening position. But he showed supreme composure by crashing his very first delivery over square leg’s head for four. Watson bowled a tight over before MCML decided to go after Rauf as well cutting him away to the boundary. The moment once again bought out the best of Rauf as later in that over he bowled an 85mph short one to Smith that the South African skipper tried to pull- But pulled too late! Up in the air! SB is running back! He’s gaining ground and- Oh my! What a catch! The Multan captain literally dived backwards and caught the ball with one hand! Brilliant!

MATCH UPDATE 14
http://www.outlookindia.com/images/akram_thumb_030210.jpg
Wasim Akram: The Iqbal Stadium is really alive now! This crowd have waited an eternity for this second innings to commence, and the drama so far has fitted the bill perfectly! The Panthers need to just calm down a bit, re-evaluate the situation and play the ball with due care. Geordie Ahmed and Andrew Symonds have a job on their hands and the former obliged by playing a lavish square drive to a bad ball by Tanvir. The bowler came back by delivering a viscous outswinger to Symonds- And he's edged it to slip! But no! It's dropped! Khanz141 was specifically placed at first slip for that sort of chance, but he just couldn't hold on it! Will the Mughals come to rue this chance?
SB persisted with Rauf from the other end, trusting his strike bowler to get another wicket that would really put the Panthers on the back foot. He got a plump looking appeal in against Ahmed, and the Mughals rose in tandem to appeal- But it's not out! The umpire shakes his head. Rauf looks bemused, but another good over from him. Only 4 off it.
Tanvir again and a single straight away from Ahmed. The shaky looking Symonds back on strike and another LBW shout! Umpire not interested! Multan simply do not seem to be getting any leeway in all those LBW appeals. In comes Tanvir for the fifth delivery and another big shout! Tanvir is literally screaming at the umpire! Over the top antics; this one was clearly going to miss offstump. Final ball of the over and Symonds with an unruly swing- Another chance at first slip- Dropped! Dear me! Dropped once again by Khanz141 off the bowling of Tanvir! The bowler looks like he's ready to tear his hair out. Both teams have been exceptionally bad in the field.
Watson was brought back on to shake things up and proved to be a challenge for the batsmen, getting nip and bounce off the pitch. He ended up only giving away one run from the over. The Panthers are 68/3 after 15; a solid partnership here and it may be curtains for the Mughals!

MATCH UPDATE 15
http://www.outlookindia.com/images/akram_thumb_030210.jpg
Wasim Akram: Rauf continued from his end, but the batsmen seemed to be getting the measure of the pitch and negotiated him better, with a booming drive from Symonds ending in 7 runs off the over.
The promising Tanvir once again showed he was not to be underestimated as he had the batsmen hopping about with some fiery deliveries. The fourth in particular was a gem, beating Symonds and flying back to the keeper- Sangakkara with a lone appeal that was rightly turned down by the umpire.
Another change as Rauf is brought off and Watson is reintroduced- The skipper seems to be using him in short, impact spells. He had a LBW appeal against his Australian team-mate first up, but it was judged to be too high. Watson with a wry smile, Symonds looks away. Second ball and Symonds tries to cut with no feet movement whatsoever and a big edge to first slip- And Khanz141 drops it! The third drop by the boy at first slip! God knows what he is still doing in that position! It's almost as if Multan want to lose this game- Watson is not happy and gives the youngster an earful. So much for team spirit!
Tanvir tried to test out Ahmed with the short ball but the batsman easily got on top of it and pulled it away for a comfortable two. Second delivery and Ahmed, growing in confidence, flicks one off his legs and sends it racing to the boundary ropes. Four! An appeal against Symonds followed- Turned down yet again. He seems to be the weak link in this pair- The Mughals will do well to pile the pressure on him.
Watson was once again very economical by only giving 1 run off his over, and then SB turned to Saj to get the breakthrough- It didn't start off well as misfields from Sangakkara and bunty meant some easy singles for the batsmen, but then Saj came back strong and got the crucial wicket of Ahmed! The Geordie stepped back and tried to cut it, but only managed to get an inside edge and send the ball shattering onto his stumps! The third Panthers batsman to go in such a fashion! But Multan are ecstatic!

MATCH UPDATE 16
http://www.outlookindia.com/images/akram_thumb_030210.jpg
Wasim Akram: The skipper Moshin now joined Symonds in a partnership that in all likelihood may make or break the game for the Panthers. Watson continued his superb bowling spell by only conceding two runs off his over- This is the type of bowling that puts pressure on the batting side! Regardless of misfields and such, the bowler has to remained focused on the job on hand. He got in another LBW appeal against Symonds- And no, I don't know how he survived that one. Symonds really does look like a fish out of water here.
A good over from Saj followed where 4 runs where taken off his over. The two faced nature of this pitch is coming out now- Whereas earlier in the evening the bowlers got some pace and bounce from the track, it's now settling down and becoming slower, more akin to the track in the first innings.
Watson continued from the other end but this time Symonds pounced on a rare bad ball and swiped it over the bowler's head for a lightning quick four. That went like lightning!
This was followed by another Symonds boundary from Saj's over- He finally looks like he's got his eye in and he should now look to score more freely and make the Mughals regret all the chances they had against him. However, the constant misfields are not helping Multan's cause.
Symonds went from strength to strength- Getting boundaries off Watson and Saj again, before putting new bowler Savak to the sword as well by slog sweeping him to the ropes. This man is starting to look very dangerous now and the tide is once against turning in favour of the Panthers.

http://www.smh.com.au/ffximage/2004/12/01/_waqaryounis_index-thumb__60x40.jpg
Waqar Younis: The Panthers just kept going forward, the skipper providing good support to Symonds. The overs ticked by, with the occasional boundary to keep the required runrate to a very manageable 4 runs per over. Symonds eventually got to his 50 and seemed to have put the Panthers in the driving, on their way to a safe victory. A few balls later he misjudged a lofted drive and sent the ball to Gayle at long-off who made a real mess of the chance! Ooof! Neither Rauf or SB are impressed! That wicket could've changed the match! Whaaata disappointment.

Waqar Younis: Tanvir came back for an over and did superbly by getting a maiden over in against the aggressive Symonds. Strike bowler then came running in from the other end and piled on the pressure on Mohsin- Before finally cracking the opposition captain on the final delivery by sending in an 87mph jaffer that cut him in half and knicked the ball back to the safe hands of Sangakkara. Big wicket!

Waqar Younis: The overs ticked by and the track really did slow down to the point that it became extremely difficult for the batsmen to connect with the ball with any real force. Symonds, with the weight of responsibility upon his shoulders, became really bogged down and failed to hit another boundary in 66 balls. Symonds looked to pick up from where he left off in bunty's last over and immediately danced down the pitch first ball and punched it forcefully for three runs. Second ball and this time a delicate sweep fine! Another three runs! Not the best decision to continue with bunty, I think! Third ball and...
