Any1 remember 1993 Hamilton Test between Pakistan New Zealand?
Waqar has good memories of Hamilton, having taken five for 22 as he and Wasim Akram bowled New Zealand out for 93 in 1993 after they had been set just 127 for victory.

Oh what a memorable match. I remember traveling to Lahore from Bahawalpur and missing the last day of this match (the New Khan driver had stupid songs running all through the journey). I think NewZealand had all ten wickets in hand and needed only hundred odd to win on the last day.

When I reached Lahore was almost resigned to Pakistan's defeat and was very depressed. Called my father home for telling him that I had reached safely, and I will never forget his saying, "Oye, Pakistan jeet gaya hai!."

Those were the days. Will never forget this match.

Waqar was dynamite at that point. Around 93-95 mph. Amazing bowler he was when he had that pace.

Absolutely. In those three four years, he was the best bowler in the world - better than Wasim, Ambrose, Warne.

Can't quite believe it's been almost 16 years!

Our batting was in quite some state at that time, this match was very much a crossover between our 2 greatest batsmen, Miandad played his last major test knock scoring 92 in the 1st innings and Inzamam played his first major test knock with 75 in the second.

Kiwis were without Martin Crowe but they had a decent batting line up nonetheless, but the 2 W's were too hot to handle and blew them away. Remember Miandad saying he was one over from taking Wicky off when he made the first breakthrough on the final morning.

Common theme of the time was our bowlers bailing us out, but they couldn't do it everytime.

yeah that was PAK's trademark test match because

Miandad(PAK's best batsman ever) was the highest scorer.
The 2 Ws were destroyed yet another team.
Most of the wickets were bowled or LBW
Inzamam saved PAK from a major collapse.

Wasim bowled 22 over in a row? Probably the innings was spread over two days but still that is excellent fitness.

Remember Miandad saying he was one over from taking Wicky off when he made the first breakthrough on the final morning.

I remember the Asif Mujtaba catch - off the bowling of Waqar Younis - to dismiss Andrew Jones, in what was to be that first breakthrough. Amazing reactions standing at short leg. It was the catch that turned the Test.

Ian Chappell once said that Javed’s best captaincy was when he had a small target to defend. He seemed to thrive on that challenge and could really motivate his players to believe in such situations. Hamilton was one such occasion.
