Pakistan have already won the one-day series against West Indies in Abu Dhabi by taking a 2-0 lead but their captain Shoaib Malik wants to secure a 3-0 margin which will take them to fourth in the ODI rankings. Pakistan clinched the first ODI after prevailing in a thrilling last-over finish on Wednesday and followed up with a 24-run victory on Friday.
"We will do our best because my aim has always been to improve and be among the world's top two teams. Here is an opportunity for us to do that," Malik said. "At the moment we have a task on our hands and that is to win the last match, which will give us more confidence for India." Pakistan's next major assignment is the home series against India in January.
Pakistan were without Shoaib Akhtar in the first two games because he was suffering from a calf injury. His condition had not improved. Shoaib last played a one-day international for Pakistan against India in November 2007.
"He [Shoaib] is still struggling," Malik said. "Anyone can get injured here because the ground is very soft, so we will look at his fitness before the match."
The West Indies coach John Dyson said that Pakistan were the "stronger team overall" and his team would have to raise their game significantly to avoid a clean sweep.
"We are giving too many free hits while bowling and, in the batting, our batsmen have the style of play that the crowds in the Caribbean love, which is to see the ball crushed. But in between you have got to pick up singles, like Pakistan are doing."
The final ODI of the series will be played on Sunday.

Right .. sounds like Fawad Alam is gonna be coming in #10 tomorrow.
Well it's OK .. "Inshallah" this will be the last match as captain for the incompetent, uninspiring coward.

He just lead your team to an ODI series victory, yet you want to remove him ? Wait till he knocks us out in the upcoming Test series and you'll become his biggest fan.

What an idiotic post .. so we beat the worst ODI team with Malik coincidentally as captain ?!?!?
Can we give him a medal of honor or something ?

Malik contributed a lot as a player and captain in this series. He'll shine both as a captain and a player in the Test series vs India.

OK .. ur opinion is ur opinion .. but as a Pak cricket fan .. I shiver at the thought of him being captain for the next five years !
India made the obvious and right move in removing Dravid from captaincy .. I could only hope the PCB do likewise.

Is this a serious question? If this is a question in which all you want is a statistic, then you seriously misunderstand the point, but then all you want at any cost is to prove shoaib malik is a great captain. Currently going by stats, a few youngsters have got a chance in this period. However, have they been given an opportunity? The answer is a resounding NO! How have they got opportunities when young batsmen are sent lower than no.7 and bowlers only get a handful of overs.
Imran, Javed's captaincies - proper opportunities were given to the likes of Qadir, Wasim, Waqar, Aqib, Mushy, Salim Jaffer, Azeem Hafeez, Asif Mujtaba, Moin Khan, Rashid Latif, Inzi, Saeed Anwar, Ijaz Ahmed etc.
Wasim's captaincy 1993-1994 - Aamir Nazir, Basit Ali.
Late 90s when we had a mix of captains - Muhammad Zahid, Muhammad Wasim, Azhar Mahmood, Abdul Razzaq, Shoaib Akhtar, Saqlain, Hasan Razaetc
2000-2003 - Kamran Akmal, Sami etc
What exactly were you trying to prove with such a ridiculous question.
I wouldn't be surprised if you try to argue that malik is pakistan's best ever captain.....

I'm not wasting my time getting into another Malik is a dumb captain vs Malik is a decent captain discussion. He's already proved many of his critics wrong during this series and may well do so increasingly in the future. You are free to point out to anyone who cares to listen how Malik was gelling up his hair in the 1st power play, scratching his **** in the 36th over etc etc..

In no other single season of Pak cricket have so many ODI players debuted - FACT. This includes the 11 that debuted for Pak's first odi vs the Kiwis in 72/73.
12 new players were tried in the last season 2007/8, 7 were 23 or under. Again the highest number of youngsters making debuts in Pak's history -- FACT.
When were Mansoor, Latif, Jamshed sent lower than no.7? Each player is slotted in for a specific role and he plays in that position. If the bowlers are not upto it, like Rizwan Ahmed vs Zim or Anwar Ali in the T20 vs Zim then why should Malik persist with them?
I'll ignore the rest of your post because my post was a simple retort to someone questioning the amount of chances youngsters had got in this era.
As traditional I don't expect a response!!!

Only a retard and blind fan can support Malik for his selfishness and dumbness.
If there could be a poll on Do you like Malik or not than it must look like this.
1)No he is the dumbest most unimaginative captain I have ever seen so I am not a retard to support him.
2)He is a decent captain (or will be a decent captain in future) but I hate his selfishness and his attitude towards youngsters so I am not a retart to support him.
3)I think he is improving day by day and will be ready in next decade So I am willing to support him ,wait no no Pak cricket will be dead by next decade if we persist with this guy so I am not a retard to support him.
4)I am Blind and idiot Malik fan and I am a retard too to support him.
5)I think he is/will be a decent captain and even though he didnt (and never will) give proper chance to youngsters I am willing to support him (as I also hate youngsters becuz one junior took up my prefect job at school)
Choose your option wisely.

So is Malik's criteria, you have one solitary over to show us what you are made of in international cricket? I remember seeing that Anwar Ali against Zim and it was soul-destroying as a spectator to watch, imagine how Anwar Ali felt?
A captain should breed confidence, be innovative and work on gelling his team together, all areas Malik successfully fails in..
Granted he is a great ODI player but, his regularity of schoolboy mistakes are all but making Pakistan less competitive...
We have the won first 2 ODIs not due to Malik's captaincy, it was down to Kamran Akmal heroics and superb seam/swing bowling from Sohail Tanvir and Umar Gul...

Why was Malik at fault? Did he run up and turn his arm over and later have us believe it was Anwar Ali? Malik can only work with what he has/ what has shown up. He cannot babysit these guys, especially against Zimbabwe.

I am not asking for a babysit from Malik, but, more than one over to decide if a player is good or not is surely injustice to Anwar Ali...
The blame sqaurely falls on Malik here, it was even a dead-rubber match and he was still reluctant to use players like Anwar Ali and Fawad Alam...
His mistreatment of players will shatter their confidence and it is obvious he has favourites, why else are the likes of Rao and Akmal still in the team when they have showed their ineffectiveness over a long period of time!!!

The only thing that shatters confidence is the realisation that you're actually not as good as the hype sorrounding you. If then you have anything about you you will go back and work harder and come back stronger.
Malik has been consistent with this approach, mainly because he has been given some real duds (Rizwan Ahmed, Khalid Latif to name two). Youngsters that have performed have been reselected Alam, Khurram, Nasir Jamshed.

Again, the basis has been on maybe 1/2 games for these apparent 'lesser' players. Malik and consistency, you must be joking right, he has not been consistent with openers (always begging for Akmal to accomodate Rao), not consistent with bowlers and definitely not consistent in the use of a flexible batting order...
Alam, Khurram and Nasir by the way have showed their abilities in longer opportunities given, our other fringe players have only had games in a few 20/20s and probably a couple of ODIs...

because the guys ahead of them Tanvir, Gul, Rao, Asif (if not sidelined), Akhtar (if fully fit) are way ahead of the likes of Anwar Ali, Sohail Khan right now. Even Wahab, Rauf and Arafat are ahead of them.
So for them to 'cement' a regular spot they will have to sparkle from the outset, or continue to perform in domestic and await the next opportunity.
