Shashank Manohar, the BCCI president, has assured Ijaz Butt, the Pakistan board chairman, that India will go ahead will their tour of Pakistan in January next year, the PCB said. This ends speculation surrounding the series after security issues in Pakistan led to the postponement of the Champions Trophy in September.

Manohar informed Butt that he had written to the Indian government for security clearance and expected a reply in 10 to 12 days, the PCB said.

Last week the Abu Dhabi Cricket Council offered to host the series if concerns over security persisted in Pakistan. Saleem Altaf, the PCB CEO, had said a neutral venue will be a worst-case scenario and that security arrangements for India's visit were already underway in Pakistan. All five venues for the three Tests and five ODIs are undergoing refurbishment that will cost the Pakistan board Rs 800 million.

The good news keeps coming :)

Whilst a bit tired of Pak-Ind games, given the fact we've hardly played any cricket at all in 2008, I'm actually looking forward to this series.

However, I feel another twist or 2 coming!

Good news. Our board could do with some revenue atleast. I hope the people attend the test matches in large no's.

I doubt about the audience for test games. India had trouble attracting people for Test games.

I think most countries (even England) would struggle to get people along to Test matches if the only available tickets were 5-day passes and you couldn't even buy them from the ground on the day. Anyway, great news for Pakistan cricket. Hope it goes smoothly.

still subjected to Government's clearance but that shouldn't be a problem as long as Pawar is there. Now PCB chief should shut up any talks about taking back ICL players at least until the tour is finished.

He is referring to the poor crowds in the Ind v Aus test series....where India was the home team.

Lahore: The Board of Control for Cricket in India BCCI has denied they ever told the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) of sending its team to Pakistan as per the schedule agreed to between the two boards.

The PCB in a statement on Tuesday said the BCCI had informed them that they had sought government’s clearance for the tour and further said India would tour Pakistan as scheduled.
“A BCCI official called the PCB chairman Ijaz Butt expressing his unhappiness over the statement and clarified that the fate of Indian team’s tour hangs on government’s clearance.”

The BCCI has almost also ruled out the option of Pakistan playing in India as it would be tough on them to arrange the series in such a short time. Since India have also hosted South Africa, Australia and England this year, they would also be hard pressed to get sponsorship for the Pakistan series.

“Pakistan team has lost its value as they do not have big names and that is why their status as a selling product is not there,” said sources

Is this a joke ? if BCCI didn't say anything to the PCB, then why did PCB announce it to media in the first place ? Either PCB is lying or the BCCI.

I dont blame BCCI for withdrawing now. Our main players are there in India playing ICL anyways. Check the statement made by BCCI

It will only take a one big explosion in one of the major cities from an Indian agent to call off the tour..

What a shame...I was hoping BCCI would defer and then PCB would retaliate by unbanning ICL players...

There is still hope...

Our main recognized players are in ICL. What we have here is a new maturing team , untested against quality attack. YK , Malik and Gul are the only big names from marketing point of view.

Read again. They were not talking about performances. they were talking about attracting sponsors
