I have always believed that 'dahi hota hai', but I have heard some people say 'dahi hoti hai'. Which one is correct?
What about saabun (soap)? I would say 'saabun hota hai', but have heard some people insist 'saabun hoti hai'. Which one is correct?

In a male dominated society, the golden rule is to use the muzzakar - only change it when there is no choice !
so Garri (car) is a muanas due to the fact that it has a Yay at the end - same applies to Kashtee (boat)!
Dahi is an anomaly ! given above rule, you would expect it to be a muanas - but its not :) (or is it !)

This part of your grammar is sound, Dhoni. But let me tell you that according to urdu grammar, dahi is never drank; it's always eaten.
Dahi khaana, na ke dahi peena. :inzi
If you are drinking it, then it must be something else. :)

Saabun is masculine.
I'm not very sure about Dahi. Dahi banti hay/ dahi ko jaag (ferment) laga di hay / dahi khani hay..... thats what I've always heard.. So I think its feminine..
Also one more thing : Haleem.. Is it a guy or a girl? Because in my (very large), everyone has said "Haleem BANTA hay.." but everyone else says haleem "banti" hay... :20:

honestly all this depends on your family background or where you grew up. i think both are acceptable although pathans take it a bit too far by making everything zanana . :gul but what i mean to say is that people say both like 1 baja hai or 1 bajay hain both are acceptable :13:
i have heard most people say haleem banai hai or haleem khani hai ? so haleem is zanana for me :P

Aik Punjabi aur Pathan ki aapas mai'n larai ho rahi thi .
Punjabi : " paani behta hai "
Pathan : " paani behti hai "
Kaafi larai ke baad dono mai'n tay huwa ke kissi se ja kar poochte hai'n . Dono saamne baithay huwe aik bihari ke pas gaye aur us se sawaal poocha .

btw, hota hai ya hoti hai kis time use karo gay?
hota ya hoti to maine kabhi use nahi kiya.
"Dahi hai?" asking mom if there is dahi
"Dahi khaya hai" i ate dahi
i guess you could use it here : "Dahi khatam ho gaya/gaye hai" to gaya use ho ga.
