The thread that DM made the other day about entertainment over winning is valid but only for spectator.
A team must consist of 11 players that would do anything to win and that's where the adrenaline comes from that players strive for when playing the game.
A cricketer will be much more satisfied if he took his team on his shoulder and crossed the finishing line rather then stay at the crease on purpose of entertaining rather then winning.
For example I had three games this weekend and my team won two of three games because we played for the teams best interest.
Every single game that we played, we thought we lost it after the end of first innings. First game we bowled first and gave up 56 runs in 6 overs which was the highest total of the tournament after three games, but we managed to pull it off because we played as the situation demanded. Second game we batted first and only managed 34 runs in 6 overs again thinking that we wouldn't be able to restrict them under 34 as we struggled with wides in previous match, but again we cut down our pace focused on a line where we can set our field and managed to pull it off on the last ball of the match and the thrill and satisfaction we got out of that last ball win was way more fun then reaching the target of 57 in 4 overs.
In the final we gave up 84 runs in 5 overs, and I came in to bat with my team one down after 5 balls with only one run on board. Now i had a choice of seeing three to four balls as I did in first match before launching into attack so that my eyes get set but my team needed me to go hard from first ball and I did, I managed to get caught on the boundary on the first ball I faced but I don't feel bad because I did what situation demanded.
All I am trying to get at is a true cricketer shapes his innings or bowling spell to teams' needs and someone who doesn't do that should not be playing the game as he is doing great damage to his team and is not being fair to his teammates.
