After the thread "Which PPers live in Pak and do they envy those living abroad ?"
lets have another reality check.
All those folks living abroad... wud u guyz want to move back to Pakistan PERMANENTLY?
If your answer is YES, then how soon are u planning to move?
If your answer is NO , please give no more than two most significant reasons that matter to you.
Either ways, your answers are most welcome, Just be truthful.
Also, Please keep it short. Its meant to be more like a poll question.
P.S., I believe majority of PPer's live abroad... therefore we shud be getting more replies on this thread than the previous one.

No - don't feel at home there and don't like the place much either because of all the crimes, corruptions, injustice.

My dad definetely wants to move back, but Im undecided. I guess I'll probably need to start working before I will have more of an idea, but now I dont even know If I'd rather work in Aus or the Middle East or go to Pakistan
Work in the West first - then go to the ME - thats the only way to earn big bucks in the ME
Daoud
23rd June 2005, 11:22
Or get a PR here first and then go back. One of my dad's cousins worked in Saudi, went to Aus and got nationality and all. He went back to Saudi and got the same job but his pay doubled
Yep - but Western experience is also very important in getting that "good" position

Oh yeah - Camp Doha to the rescue ! So what do you not like about Qatar ( dont say the weather - I love the hot weather here and the chance to outdoor sports at night )
Dubai is so close as well - they have lots of concerts etc.... I think ME is the place to be Mona !

I don't like it much because I don't feel at home here and am homesick for Canada. I don't like the heat here but atleast it's better than the -40 C! The outdoor activities especially water sports are fun here as well as the sand dunes. One thing I do like about this place is that it's very lively at night as compared to Canada, which would often be very dull and quiet especially during the winters...
Good thing Dubai is nearby...hoping I can go there for a visit sometime soon. :)

Not yet perhaps.
In many ways, If you have a good job and a good pay, life can be easier in Pakistan than here. Yes theres a lot of personal freedom here, I wont deny that. You have more of a chance to shape your personal life the way you want to over here than in Pakistan perhaps.
I am a bit of an individualist and so I like it here not for all the other reasons mentioned in that thread.

I have realized onething when I post on Pakistani forums is that Pakistanis living abroad are big on talk when it comes to saying how good Pakistan is but I am 100 percent sure and so are they that they will never be able to or do not want to live in Pakistan, just a hipocricy I have noticed and yes certainly it does boil by blood. Heck if its as good as you make it sound then why not come and live here.

Who is saying that Pakistan is that good? we are merely trying to say that there are issues on both sides. A lot depends on what kind of person you are and what you want. I have given my reasons and they dont really say Pak is a bed of roses but I wont come back
Nauman, I am not sure where you live but I am have lived 22 yrs of my life in pakistan and only 4.5 here and yes there is a bit of a tendency to romanticise about Back home but that is only after the realization that its not a celluloid life you thought it to be.
There is a lot less corruption here and you dont fear that the police will nail you for just being on the road at a certain time.
There is still some sense of discipline here
There is way too much freedom.

this raising kids business is one of the reasons why i'm seriously contemplaing leaving canada. if i'm able to find a job with good pay in pakistan, nothing better than that. i feel i need a bit more experience for that though, too much competition at the mid-level, so the middle east may be the logical option. may move within the next 2 years, possibly even sooner.
didn't sajjad go back to live in pakistan? wonder how he's doing?

If you have a foreign degree and an year or two experience of working abroad finding work in Islamabad, Karachi or Lahore is no big deal but what I would suggest is come here first get a job and then move the family back.

It should not be perceived that we think coming/living abroad is all hoopla and rot. I would certainly recommend it to anyone who can make it to do so for various reasons. The only objective is that it should not be considered as landing in Heaven or a land of true justice and all that jazz either.

I might consider it...but there are too many issues in Pakistan (corruption, violence, etc.) that might make me think of staying put here in Canada. Plus, finding a job is a major issue.

YES.
Seriously considering moving to Pakistan in 2-3 years time. Likely to work for an NGO.
I figured that a lot of Pakistanis in the west love to criticise and poke fun at everything Pakistani (even Pakistanis in Pakistan do that) but very few are willing to get their hands dirty, put their heads down and actually do something for the country they love to hate.
For me I am a Pakistani first and foremost. And very proud of it too. I do not intend to die anywhere else!
There isn't anything you can get in the UK but not in Pakistan anyway.

When u come up with some obvious and valid reason (corruption etc)... they wud say "oh no..its not as bad as u portray"...well then y wont u want to go back? ....thats when u will get to here some funky reasons.
U can live where u want...thats fine. But y deny the facts?

Canada is definitely not happy because it's missing its best citizen! :7:
The reason I'm missing Canada is because I was born there, pretty much grew up there and that's the only place I can call home...here I feel like an alien and can't adjust to the cultural differences! :2:

A question to those in Pak
what do you expect from life in, lets say, canada,uk,us?
Nauman
24th June 2005, 16:40
Well first and foremost merit must have a value and there is value for merit in US/UK/Canada where as merit is considered a piece of ***** in Pakistan. I expect people to be more civil Pakistanis are janglis over here its something like jangal ka kanoon where might is right. Anyways I expect everything a hardworking person should get which he doesnt get in Pakistan.

Not having to pay rishwat to get something as simple as an id card is a good expectation

"Well first and foremost merit must have a value and there is value for merit in US/UK/Canada"
Speaking from what I have seen in Canada, you wont always get it. You think so but thats not always the case. Engineers, phds, doctors(at times), masters do not get jobs here and have to resort to petty labour and menial odd jobs to scrape by, by and large.
"I expect people to be more civil"
This in general, you will definitely get.
"Anyways I expect everything a hardworking person should get which he doesnt get in Pakistan."
Refer to point above, you will not easily get that. Not a hell of a difference

"Not having to pay rishwat to get something as simple as an id card is a good expectation"
If you can afford rishwat, its to your advantage ;-)
But by and large people are generally treated fairly and dont have to resort to briberies on a small personal scale.

just to add to this point a bit ... corruption is definately a problem at the lower public service levels (or pretty much any level) in Pakistan. however, it might not be very fair to compare public servants in Pakistan and the west. public servants are looked after quite well here, merely a case of good governance and economic development. just as an example, almost 2 years ago there was a strike by garbage collectors in Toronto because they felt they were not being compensated enough. Newspapers conducted some investigations and revealed the average pay for a garbage collector was $55,000, and yet they were demanding more (compare this to entry level office jobs for university graduates that start around the $30-40,000 range). clerks at public service kiosks such as ID card / passport centers are fairly well paid as compared to back in Pakistan. so the onus shifts from personal welfare through the use of bribery to creating an efficient system so that the employee is not burdened by unnecessary stress.

I am definitely considering moving to Pakistan. The reason being that I want my kids to learn, love their culture/religion, take pride in their origins and learn to respect their elders.
The aspects that put me off is the lack of security and proper law enforcement. The crooked ways to get things done and leg pulling. The people who are supposed to look after the law and order of the country are rapists and accomplices of dacoits.
In the UK, you are busy paying your mortgage, bills, taxes, congestion fines etc. Insaan kahin bhi khush nahin!
