SRILANKA :boom: :boom: :boom:
So they take away the tournament from Pakistan and give it to a country in the middle of a civil war. This is ICC at its best, I have nothing against the lankans but how that country is safe is beyond me and I have been to Sri Lanka and conditions are not safe at all.

PCB needs to speak up and make sure their voice is heard, world cricket needs Pakistan just as much as we need ICC.

At least nine patients were killed when three artillery barrages hit a hospital in the corner of northeastern Sri Lanka where the army has trapped the Tamil Tiger rebels, along with some 250000 civilians, according to the Red Cross.

This Is Just Because That India Does Not Want To Tour Pakistan.....
This Can Be The Only Reason Because As You All Know That Sri Lanka Is Also In A Civil War..........
India Got Power In Icc.......

I really hope it goes ahead in Sri lanka, ICC will become laughing stock.
Nothing against lankans and we should NOT participate in CT(pull out at the last minute with security concerns).

I guess the could have matches in Karachi and Hyderabad for the CT. It's sad that Pakistan is not getting the international cricket which it deserves. Hopefully, once the law and order situation gets better in Pakistan we would see more international cricket.

I'm glad that the CT is moving to a country which has at least helped us during our time of need, but yes, Sri Lanka is no safer than us but cricket is safe in both countries. It should never have been moved from Pakistan but since it is 'not safe enough' here, I'm happy to see it in a country that also needs it instead of India or anywhere else for that matter.

ICC will not become a laughing stock if pakistan pulls out of CT due to security issues in SL, Pak will be.
In case you didn't notice, there is a FULL STOP after "laughing stock" and pulling out of CT is in the next line.
So you think Sri lanka is the best place to hold CT???

going by the same logic you have for international cricket in pakistan, SL is safe.the civil war is almost over.whatever is happening is 100's of miles away from the cricket stadiums.SL also provides excellent security to teams.India had recently completed a test and one day series incident free. the second one day series with in a few months is on safely.England would host 20-20 wc.west indies have completed their turn of major event in 2007 wc. SA hosted last 20-20 WC.so, SL may have been chosen as a full member.if there were any apprehensions on security issues, it would have already come up in the ICC meeting.

if u read the entire statement/cricinfo article, it mentioned that Australia & England had reservations about playing in pakistan, because of their stand in afghan.their foreighn missions have given them reports that the situation is not right for their teams to visit pakistan.so, the ICC has decided to change the hosting country. in SL case, there is no such objection. Butt will explain ICC reasoning better after reaching pakistan!

Yes why not, stick it in a country which has been through a civil war for God knows how long! A country where the situation is seriously been deteriorating in the last couple of weeks, where civilians are being caught in the cross fire, the UN has publicly been crying out at the threat to little baby's. Where there are reports of the Tamil Tigers using civilians as shields and the military randomly killing civilians!
Somalia would have been a better place!

How many foreigners have been targeted in Sri Lanka? Not so in Pakistan. Restaurants and businesses frequented by Americans and Europeans have been targeted, the Marriot being the most obvious example. An American UN aid worker was kidnapped this past weekend in Peshawar. I don't think the situations are analogous at all.

Haroon Lorgat's assertion that there are "no safety or security issues" in Sri Lanka is an insult to the hundreds of thousands of people who have lost family members, been displaced, or otherwise had their lives wrecked by the civil war which is still going on there. Sri Lanka, or at least the part of it hosting the cricket, is relatively safe for tourists, but does he think the ubiquitous roadblocks, including those that have turned the once bustling Fort district in Colombo into a virtual no-man's land are there for decoration?
It also seems to me that the only two current international grounds suitable to host cricket at that time of year are those at Kandy and Dambulla. The inter-monsoonal rains will be getting underway in Galle and Colombo, and they'll be lucky to get much if any play in games scheduled to be hosted there.

Get your facts right, the civil war and the air strikes are going on 100s of miles away from where the Cricket stadiums are. The civil war will be over within the next 2 months.
Look at the pink area on the small map on top right corner. That's the only piece of land they have fighting going on. Everywhere else is safe.

So you think Tamil Tigers are going to pack their bags and head home, they have already struck Colombo with suicide bombings and all experts believe they will continue to do so. I have no sympathy for Tami Tigers and I hope they are taken care of by Srilankans. I am merely pointing out the double standards of ICC.

When was the last time Tamil Tigers attacked cricketing events or sporting events for that matter?
They are in a huge shortage of man power as I hear it from various news outlets. Intel part of their organization is pretty much with the head of the Intel and his assistants being killed by air raids last month along with black tigers (suicide bombers). They are not capable of carrying out any dangerous missions anymore. And I'm getting all these from reading almost every English news outlets.

and the fighting in Bajaur is practically over too...swat is the only major area left!...if we play games in lahore , karachi multan etc they are even further away from swat and the tribal areas than the jungles where the LTTE are fighting the SL army!..so your argument is based on distorted facts...the cross section of sri lanka means it could fit in a corner of Pakistan so that argument holds no water whatsoever!...
the reasons the western country's dont want to tour Pak are:
1) hate the country as it is seen as a boring third world dustbowl with no entertainment
2) too many MOzlims with chips on their shoulders allegedly
3) proximity to Narcostan
4) an organised reason to isolate Pakistan to prevent the cricket team from winning anything hence pereptrating the above and also reducing the power of the asian bloc in the long term
5) theyve never liked the uppity P-a-k-i-s who always managed to put one over them!!...

The whole point is that there is hardly any difference between the situation in Pak and SL yet Pakistan is consistantly isolated.

My point was not how unsafe Pakistan is, but how safe Sri Lanka is as I was just in Sri Lanka for a month 2 months ago.
LTTE doesn't want to target foreigners or events involving foreigners because they are trying pretty desperately to gain international support. Besides, leader of LTTE has come out and publicly stated that they would never target cricket matches in particular, not that they are capable of it anymore.

2nd February 2009, 22:43
Your point about foreigners makes no sense since no sporting event has been targeted in Pakistan. Bottom line is this is the world we live in now, if you want I can provide the link for targeted killings of media person in SL thus there is no justification of continuous isolation of Pakistan.

Gents...SAF, Aus, UK...have a soldier contingent the size of a cricket team in Afghanistan (not 300 like the movie, but 33...er...like 3 x 11)...which means all Pakistani's will attack them so they cant come to Pakistan....we must sympathize

It is not about sporting events .Why did England team left India in the middle of the one day series . Because of Mumbai attacks. Indirect influence will be there .Same happened with NZ team in pakistan 2001 .
