View Full Version : Too many Indian players in IPL?

Standard of many of these 'home grown' or 'local' players is really bringing down the standard of this competition.

Just going by some of the inept performances today and previously.

If they want to be like English Football Premier League surely they will have to drop the ridiculous and anti-competitive restricition on foreign players ?

that is because IPL stands for Indian Premier League. Are you okay?

lol yes it is Indian domestic tournament. Rule is only 4 foreign players are allowed. 7 Local players. Of the 7 players they must have atleast 4 players below the age of 21 or something.
Yes there will be quiet a few rookies. But each team has 4 foreign players to work with in addition to current Indian team players. But if you look at presence of foreign players there is a huge amount of foreign players and foreign coach, foreign captains.

Infact Indians are complaining about too much foreign invasion.

yeah some pathetic indian player, specially fast bowlers or i say medium slow bowlers.
I think to increase quality and competition they should conduct IPL like EPL

There is bound to be some mediocrity...Its not like World T20 where each country throws its best...Its an indian tournament and a large share of team composition has to be Indians......be it bad, decent, good or spectacular.....

as long as we getting 3 decent cricketer per season, I am thrilled about it!

This is one of the few good things Modi has actually brought about - even if 1 local talent per year can come through the ranks and be knocking on the door of the international side because of it then this is a good idea. From an Indian pov that is but yes sure if I were a neutral I agree with your point.

Many cricket leagues across the world adopt this kind of policy - look at the county cricket scene in england - you have mediocre england talent playing the game whilst each team can only play one international per first class game.

Perhaps we should import batsmen from Pakistani villages..would that solve the the problem? You think?:inti:

The main point of the IPL is to expose the Indian youngsters alongside some of the worlds a greats. As long as indian cricket gets a couple of 'future stars' out of the IPL, the BCCIs job will be done. They dont care about the standard of cricket on TV, the money is rolling in, the locals guys are playing alongside some of the greats and (from an indian pov) hopefully learning from them also.

Hope not...they'll probably be accused of being terrorists as well! :|

IPL Domestic standard is definately not as bad as ICL where it was pathetic....partially beacuse creme of Indian top stars are playing this but other local talent isn't too bad...

Irony is few of our best local talent is taken away by ICL otherwise you wouldn't have complained about it....

guys like TP Singh, Dinesh Mongia, Jhujhunwala, Hemang Badani and Stuart Binny could walk into any IPL team...amongst a few others

Yeah its like 2 leagues shares the local talent equally which hurts most becuase the ICL Local talent careers are finished already....

Suresh Raina. He was not part of T20 world cup. It helped he played under Dhoni.
