Karachi: Pakistan Cricket Board's hope of making substantial profit from the just concluded five-match ODI series against Australia ended in smoke as the PCB had to shell out more than one million dirham only to put security measures for the two teams in place.

Sources in the board told PTI that due to the unexpected heavy expenditure, PCB was unlikely to make any substantial profits from the series in Dubai and Abu Dhabi which Pakistan lost 2-3.

"The earlier anticipation was that this would be a profitable venture for us but now due to heavy expenditures we will be lucky to break even," the source said.

"The board has spent more than one million dirham on just providing security cover for the series," he added.

Pakistan's sources of revenue for the series was around one million dollars from sale of title sponsorship and ground advertising rights.

"The broadcasters will also pay around three million dollars for the series as an installment for their five-year television rights deal with the PCB," the source said.

"The Australians were very particular about the security arrangements for the series and agreed to play the matches once they were satisfied that the hosts left no stone unturned in this regard," he added.

Pakistan played the series as home event after Australia refused to travel the strife-torn country due to security reasons. The source said the PCB would also end up spending around two million dirham on the hotelling of teams, transportation, rent of stadiums, practice facilities, inviting guests from Pakistan and so on.

"The board incurred heavy bills in the provision of hotelling, daily allowances and air tickets to guests invited from Pakistan by the board. The board had not anticipated these extra expenditures," the source said.

GOOOD. They should be paying for security even in Pakistan and not tax payers. The money they generate should not be for heavy pay checks for PCB and players but it should be after the expenses and they will still make good money.

One guy in anothjer report was saying stadium not full, like it is in Paksitan and they have to give free tickets. And few here say attendence is not important as money comes from TV (not true and paying attendence is very important). These excuse makers have nothing to do but blame something. Just say we made this or lost this instead of making stories.

Forget about increased contract and match fee, extra prize monies and taking people on trip to UAE (probably with families), daily allowances, taking government officials etc. No that is nothing as we should have made that $100K from spectators. Boycott these people next series I say. Hopefully Willow has a good deal then instead of stuffing PCB's pockets

Why?

Why would they not be able to anticipate the costs before they invite guests.

Why?

Why would they not be able to anticipate the costs of hotelling, daily allowances and air tickets before they invite guests. Is this an intelligent question? We are dealing with PCB here

Good job PCB officials werent taking big daily allowances in $ US - that might have affected profitability.

THis is why it would be better to have neutral matches in countries like UK, where I think it would cost less for security

I think the PCB is better focusing on countries like England, Australia, South Africa, NZ for neutral venues. It will definately cost less security wise and will also result in high quality cricket as well in terms of weather, conditions, wickets e.t.c.

So the PCB can't even manage a budget properly, something that stay at home mums and first year university students can do?

Maybe if they hadn't done this they would have made a few quid at least.

Are you kidding me ???

$14000 as daily allowance? That's more than the goddamn players. Wow, doesn't PCB have any committee that monitors accountability?

Is there any chance PCB will be made public as it is not regarded as a "not for profit" organization?

It is the Indian media bullshitting... PCB made enough money. Indian media just wants to degrade PCB on every manner. Find another source.

Also check the quote.. sources in the Board told PTI. :)))

I have seen many Indian online news papers who just copy the stuff written by APP, UPI, etc.. Those guys have no shame.

Must be the audited accounts that PTI have sole access to - I think this cross border cooperation is a good thing

There is thread "PCB fails to make big bucks from Aus series ". Well, I have inside news that PCB had a sponsor that was willing to pay more than one million dollars (but clean money with no strings attached), but some key "decision makers" inside PCB pushed for the "awarded" sponsor for 250,000$...........why because those individuals got personal benefits from the group....examples are that some of those key guys got flats in dubai as "gifts".....we know that bubble of property has busted in dubai and there is 50% drop in the prices......so, as expected, some PCB influential guys under the wings of our his highness president took this decision to take personal benefits and they did spend money like if was free.........what can we expect from bunch of free loaders...

I really wonder why is it that much of the news about Pakistan cricket and PCB first appears in Indian press. Does Pakistan press not value their cricket news or are they outbid by Indian press in "entertaining" the sources.

It seems the trashy readership is not confined to Indians but never mind.
