View Full Version : offical thread 1st test - eng v Aus @ lords [20/8/05]

20th July 2005, 20:26
head to head record @ lords (overall)
played 32 - england wins 5 Australia wins 13 drawn 14
In Test matches @ lords (since 1900)
played 25 - england wins 1 Australia wins 11 drawn 13
england have won just 1 test @ lords v Australia in last 109 years and that was in 1934 Since then, in 17 matches, Australia have won eight and drawn nine.
odds very much stacked against england for 1st test @ lords.

england have been agressive, persistant and bowled and fielded with quality.
they fully deserve there sucsess!
Amjid i reckon they can still improve. Hoggard bowled quite a few loose balls in his spell although the Hayden wicket was a beauty. Id say Flintoff was most consistent out of the 4 bowlers in terms of line and length.

Look RH everyone knows Pak is missing the stars of yesteryear and are not the same team s before. Hopefully we are getting back to good old days again and some new stars will emerge against u lot in October. As for Pak v Aus we have limited resources wheras England are meant to be world number 2 playing in there own backyard against the Aussies.
Go Aussies ... annihliate the poms ;-) Aussie Aussie Aussie ...oiy oiy oiy...:27:

Precisely. In fact we knew we were going to be beaten 3nil and I was SURPRISED we had the best team in the world on the ropes in the first session at Perth!
Whereas England were going on as if they were going to win the Ashes 5 nil. That will shut up the media and put them in their place.
Hoggard yesterday: McGrath is finished
McGrath today: I let the ball do the talking :))

:)))Ok guys, lets not rub in to bechara RH too much......He's already crying in his tea, so lets not push it......I was very surprised at England's batting performance, I thought they would have had put up much more of a fight than they did.....Credit to Aussie bowling though, they didn't back down, and congratualtions to McGrahth.......

I think 180 will be a tough score to chase on this wicket and the Aussies dont' really have to worry too much, Gilchrist will get that on his own, but which player in the England line-up is half as gud as Gilchrist?

9.1 SP Jones to Hayden, FOUR, Jones begins with a loosener down the leg
side, only 84 mph and misdirected, Hayden has no trouble
swivelling and cracking the ball down to fine leg!
Cricinfo Commentary, the guys an Indian and he has the audacity to say only "84 mph", thats the fastest any Indians EVER bowled.

Me thinks the Aussies will be plenty peeved for letting the English tail wag...
Happy about McGrath's 5 fer...Not happy that he got Tresco...REALLY not happy about Pietersen's 50...
hope they get a lead of at least 200...anyhow, with Gilly one never knows...he may explode at turn a 200 lead into 300...

Clarke is killing Ashley G here, Petersion has dropped three and I can remember a joke on this occasion:
Q: Why don't English players get pre tour injections?
A: Because they never catch anything!
Aussies will dominate yet another ashes series!!!

aussies will win this test match. 300 is too much for england
Aussies have dominated the morning session and are over 400 ahead. I think only the weather can save England now.
Katich reminds me of Asim Kamal. No fuss, no real big shots, just plays each ball on merit.
england need 420 to win
an unlikely event

Except Katich can hit a one hundred! :P
Well 1-0 to Australia, no way with Englands batting they are going to chase 400 or survive 2 and half days. Aussies got plenty of time and England has a very inexpierenced camp. Maybe if the lead was 350, then England stood a chance, but the minimal of ones. Even then, when chasing a target over 300, they would struggle with such inexpierence and would need Butch and Thorpe.
England need to pick the team on the present. This is what they are building upto and what they been waiting for. Despite, Thorpe picking and choosing what tours to go on, you want to win this series and he should have been selected.

Australia tightening the screw! England are getting squeezed.......slowly but surely the blood is starting to seep out, soon it will be the guts, then it will be the lungs, kidney, liver etc and finally it will be the heart. English cricket will be dead forever!
bell gone aswell
it seems englands gamble on an inexperienced batting line up is not paying off
how much teh english would have given to see thorpe or butcher striding out right now....

I suspect the inexperienced batting lineup is going to cost them in Pakistan as well. Maybe Butcher would be back by then.

Given the way they're playing Warne I think Kaneria will have a good series against them, especially when you consider the fact that he has the googly that Warne doesn't use and Thorpe's absence has denied them a top class leftie in the middle order

I never understood why Vaughan was picked in the Test squad for the Super Series. He had one good Ashes and nothing ever since against any other team. He is England's very own Ganguly.

Come on Aussies hammer the poms....WE can do it.;-) Good old Warna bowling good as is pidgeon and Lee. England had a good start but the aussies are just too good. We need Peiterson out early and then the game is ours. :27:
Aleem Dar is a good umpire but he gave 2 not outs which were out but one of them was really difficult to tell. Overall he has had a good game and mistakes happen. Rudi also didnt give one out which I thought was plum.
Hash
23rd July 2005, 23:10
Rudi's decision was shocking. Lucky it wont cost US that much because...
a)Pieterson's 'Sehwag luck' will soon run out
b) He will probably be out within the first few overs tomorrow
c) Even if he isn't out the only thing that can save the English is rain.
AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE!!!
On another note, it is quite fun supporting the Aussies. When Vaughan got bowled today I actually jumped out of my seat, danced around and screamed like I do every time Pakistan get a wicket. Speaking of Vaughan, he has really led from the front in this test match! Two superb innings! Keep it up Vaughanie!

Hey Hash bhai..it's fun allright. I have been doing since I first watched the Aussies play v England in 1989 and have been having fun, laughing and jumping out of my seat each Ashes series ever since. We have that in common.
I just can't stand the Poms winning as the are the worst losers and worst winners, bad media, moaners and bad sport people in quite a few sports. If people think the Aussies are arrogant they havent seen nothing as the Aussies only play tough and hard on the field. Off the field they are kewl.

Yeah the ain has wasted most of todays play, saving the english for a while, but there is a hint of hope. There shouod be play at 3 cuz the rain has cleared.
Amir
24th July 2005, 16:26
Rain could not save them for too long, once the match resumed. McGrath made quick work of the tail enders and a comprehensive win for the Aussies. In my opinion, Gillespie should be dropped and Kasprowicz should play in the next test. Kaspo was out of form in the Natwest Series, but did not do that bad, as Gillespie did.
England have alot of questions to answer, and one of them is figuring how to play Warne. Also, I think Pieterson should be brought at 4, Flintoff 5 and bell at 6.
