Karachi, February 12: Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq today warned India not to underestimate his young and inexperienced team, declaring that it had the determination and ambition to do well in the upcoming "mother of all" series.

Although his team lacked the superstars of the 1987 and 1999 teams, Inzamam said what was common in the present squad and those match-winning sides was the commitment to do well in India.

"I hope India do not underestimate us on the basis that we have an inexperienced and young team as compared to it (India) or because we don't have same superstars or match-winners as we had on the 1987 and 1999 tours," Inzamam said in an interview shortly before leaving for India for a commercial shoot, also featuring his rival Sourav Ganguly.

"The common thing between the 1987 and 1999 teams and the present team is the spirit, determination, commitment and ambition to do well in India." Pakistan, under Imran Khan, won the 1986-87 five-Test series 1-0 with victory in the Bangalore Test whereas in 1999, Wasim Akram guided Pakistan to victories in Chennai and Kolkata. Anil Kumble's world record of 10 wickets in the second innings helped India win the Delhi Test.

Nah nah Amjid I disagree!

It is lion-hearted. You see Inzy has lots in parallel with lions - and I joke not.

Lions rarely hunt - prefering to doze all day while lesser memebers of the group go hunting (lionesses like Hafeez). They eat well once the kill is made - but slumber is their favourite repose.

Ocassionally, the lion is woken from its slumber - and then it's beware! And that is very much our Inzi!

He is a natural lion - with the attitude to match.

(In contrast Javed Miandad was a real hyena)

i find inzis attitude with current odi team batting order disgusting! its obvious top order needs help yet inzi just throws lambs infront of the wolves to be killed.

one reason i respect players like miandad, imran khan and majid khan is they always put there hands up for team (even when there where personal grudges in side) and lead from the front.

imran khan wasnt pakistans star batsmen in 1992 world cup but he batted number 3 so there was a good head to lead others around him!

inzis just a disgrace and coward!

Well I think since there are no lionesses in the team, Inzi just throws out the lion cubs first. The lion must rest and doze first. I really am quite taken by my analogy!

But one problem is that while Inzi might be a lion - not all the team are. When I think of Inzi and Youhanna I am reminded me of the Biblical prophecy of the "lion and lamb lying down together" coming true!

That is the day of judgement I think - and clearly Pakistan cricket's has arrived.

(What's the exact Biblical reference Umar? Or is it Talmudic?)

How dare anyone speak up against the great Inzi. He is a role model and a leader for all Pakistanis. Despicable that you guys can make fun of a man of his stature. Shameful stuff.

I am disgusted.

Inzi should lead from the front for once and open the innings until the WC.

Amjid i dont think you have the right quite frankly to diss Inzi in the way you are doing.

Try saying something positive for once instead of being the same boring old Amjid, criticising the team at every opportunity. You really need to meet Uri Geller he'll tell you all about the power of positive thoughts!!!!!!

inzi is a coward plain and simple he shud bat at number 3, imran khans said it, waqar younis, asif iqbal, whole aussie commentary have said it....!

Amjid would u perfer Inzi to open batting?

Amjid Javed
12th February 2005, 17:31
no number 3 is fine. salman butt and hameed can open.

inzi 3, malik 4, yoyo 5, razzaq 6, afridi 7, akmal 8, rana 9 , sami 10, s nazir 11

if inzi is a coward, then what does that make Youhana?

I wana see Youhana and Inzi opening in on innings ...

that could be fun

12th February 2005, 18:07
Amjid as reliable as our opening pair is, wouldnt #3 would be considered as opening batsman, wel most likely our one of the opener is gone with in first 5 overs, hiding inzi behind 3rd or fourth spot is to take of the shine off the ball and then yoyo and inzi come in to give the stability to our batting line up, lets suppose inzi comes in at 3 and makes the score of our usual number 3rd batsman, which is most likely not more then 20 or 25 now days, then who do we have at number 5. and you know yoyo is most like unpredictable, i wouldnt rely on him, and if you ask me if u wana switch #3 position to Inzi, i dont think our batting line up can be realiable. we will have batting collapses every other game. Besides Inzi is not as young or fit you he is, he cant be there for building up an inning and last for 30 overs.

Amjid Javed
12th February 2005, 18:16
jalex, i blv ur best players have to bat the most overs therefore either inzi or yoyo needs 2 bat @ number 3.

2ndly as good as inzi/yoyo can be they cant keep bailing pakistan out after starts off 20/3 or 30/3 etc...

thats is down to two points

1) younger players have to improve and score runs

2) make shift openers/n.o 3 like akmal/hafeez/yk etc aint gona work.

malik was fine at 3. but sadly seems bw/inzi dont have faith in malik lasting long on non-placid tracks or v best bowlers(i blv this also) but though coach/skipper had more faith!

Amjid i agree with most of ur points, however, in pakistan batting line up #3 is equal to #2, coz of our opening pair is still not stable, so ball is still new and still swinging, i am sure u would agree with me on that. so why would u wana risk inzi at 3 if we can take a risk on someone who is not gonna be reliable at number 5? and if u say one of them has to bat most over then why wouldnt you put inzi or yoyo in opening slots. Coz i am sure you woundt wana take a risk of them getting on on swining ball, but with Pakistan current situation, #3 is as equal as opening.

Amjid Javed
12th February 2005, 18:37
well i think pakistan shud open with butt and hameed. i recon both more often than not will get runs for pakistan. i see ur point. but inzi batting 5 is to low for me.
