I have to say one observation I have made in this tournament so far, is how unprepared and rusty the Pakistani batsmen look every time they go out to the middle.. apart from Younis Khan maybe.

Is it just me or does it just seem like they have not picked up a bat for about six months?

Surely with their current failures, you would expect them to be practising in the nets for hours and hours ... and trying to get some sort of fluency, you know.. like hitting the ball with the middle of the bat, executing shots with good timing and placement, good footwork etc.

I find it hard to believe that Shahid Afridi has spent even an hour in the nets working on his batting, since this tour began...

Every time they show clips of the Pak team training on Sky Sports, it appears they are playing football or just walking around chatting, having a laugh !!

Are they really working their socks off in the nets ?? I must admit that I am not convinced on the display of batting that I have seen so far.

I honestly think if Javed Miandad walked out to bat for Pakistan today, even at his age (near 50?) and not having picked up a bat for maybe 10 years, I am sure even now he would look less 'rusty' than this lot !

Nope, the spend all their spare time at Chaudries TKC....thats the problem with having a tourny in England.

Btw Malik is still looking for someone to have dinner with him.

'Hi i'm Shoaib Malik....come........come dinner...me TKC' :malik

As for Afridi, well he's just given up on batting. He even said today at the mid innings break i'm concentrating 100% on my batting.
I still remember a couple of months ago in an interview he said i'm concentrating on my batting as i'm a batsman...my bowling is a bonus'

I would not be surprised if that is the case, it seems the Pakistan team is spending more time on social engagements and parties with local Pakistani community, eating free meals at restaurants, charity dinners, coaching at schools, and possibly when they get a bit of spare time - going to cinemas to watch the latest Bollywood films... anything besides cricket practice in the nets.

PCB might as well send two Pakistan teams for these tours, one to play cricket and focus on nothing else - and let the other take care of the 'extra curricular' activities..

I have only played cricket at club level, but I know one thing .. practice, practice and more practice and you can only improve.. no matter how limited your talent or ability is.

From a being a tail ender which I was, being a spin bowler.. and being a total bunny with the bat - I was able to practice and improve my batting to regularly score 20s, 30s and even a couple of 50s in my club cricket career ! :)

Dont u remember Miandad in 96 world cup? couldnt get the ball off the square, a bit like butt in his prime.

Anyways, they definately do not work hard on their batting in the nets, its clearly evident.

Mohsin is trying to be funny but its a rather lame attempt at humour on his part.

Majid, I arrived at Lords about 90 minutes before play was due to start and the Pakistan team were being taken through their fitness routines initially. Then after that they split into 2 groups - bowlers who were put through their paces by Aqib and the batsmen who were in the nets with Inti overseeing them.

The bowling and batting practice sessions before play started must have lasted for about 45 minutes.

Cant argue with the preparation today.

Aha! Got the point! Tell me that in which group Malik, Afridi, Fawad and Tanvir were training....

Answer, Either batting or bowling..

Thats the point..

If you are an all-rounder, then u must take BOTH practice session with extra 30-40 minutes... Thats why being all-rounder is a difficult Job... In same time, you can either learn the art of batting or bowling.. You can't learn both in same time.. You need to give more time to practicing your skills... ESP. Afridi!

Plz someone request all coaches to start training all-rounders earlier as compared to specialist batsmen or bowlers.... It may take some extra time , but it can give fruitful results... Esp. in t20..
