They'll probaly say its due to his consistency but yeah flintoff really is full of runs 1 ashes series aside he's done jack all.

This list is a joke. Botham, Flintoff and KP are not among world's 10 best hitters.

If they consider consistency then where is Saeed Anwar,He still hold the heighest runs score in ODI,he make 3 hundred in consistant matces once, then he got score of 100+,100+and &70+ in his career, has has 19 Odi hundreds,
if they have flintoff they why not Imran Khan the greatest all rounder in history

List is full crap

Biased media! The writers of the column have no knowledge of cricket. I'm not just saying that Afridi should be there, which he should, but even guys like Yuvraj Singh should be there! For goodness sake he hit 6 sixes off an over, but off-course that was off Broad, a much hyped Englishman and this IS a British paper. I have never ever seen a man hit a yorker for a 6, Yuvi hits it out the park for fun. He should be there, as well as Afridi.

Kriketer
24th June 2009, 01:09
haha....so many Englishmen. I wonder how did they leave Michael Vaughan out of this list since English media has been circling around Lillie, Flint-off, KP and Vaughan since the birth of cricket.

Chris Gayle should be in the top 10 too. He is a much superior hitter than both Flintoff & Pietersen put together. The way Gayle destroyed Lee & co. in the match against Australia in this t20 WC was the stuff of legends. Spectators in England would have hardly ever seen hitting like that.

Crappy list.

Here's mine, off the top of my head in 30 secs, and in no particular order:

1. Afridi
2. Gayle
3. Cairns
4. Sehwag
5. Gilchrist
6. Symonds
7. Razzaq
8. Pietersen
9. Richards
10. Klusener

Actually, that team would be an excellent ODI team:

bowlers: Cairns, Razzaq, Klusener, Afridi, Gayle, Sehwag, Symonds

wicketeeper: Gilchrist

Batting: all the way

When was the last time Flintoff played an ODI innings of note? The guy has been living on borrowed time with the bat for ages, perhaps even longer than Afridi was.

2. Gayle
3. Cairns
4. Sehwag
5. Gilchrist
6. Symonds
7. Razzaq
8. Pietersen
9. Richards
10. Klusener

mine would be again in no particular order

Gayle - clean as a whistle
symonds - soo much power
sir viv richards - king of sixes
klusener - amazing hitter when i was growing up
wasim akram - huge six hitter and clean too also underachiever
gilchrist - proper cricketing shots were hit for sixes
yuvraj singh - six 6's in an over
razzaq - only person in the current pakistan team who can hit a yorker for six
Tendulkar - when he was younger he used to hit some huge huge sixes
sewagh - not a hitter but the pace at which he plays i couldnt exclude him

i know i will get destroyed for not including afridi... but my problem with afridi is that until recently- he has never been able to hit against good bowlers... secondly he is the master of small grounds... in this t20 he did well... and finally he isnt a clean hitter... he can only hit half volleys for sixes.

oh and jayasuria is just the king of small grounds

dont you think a player needs consistency or atleast a purple patch to get into a top 10 ? Afridi has a hit some memorable knocks but thats it.He has plenty to do...to get a top 10 status.

Given that most of the right wing nasty tories that make up the bedrock of the Daily Mail readership probably live in Kent I am very surprised that Chris Tavare isn't on the list

Lara400
24th June 2009, 11:42
Biggest Hitters - would relate to how far you can send the leather.

1st consideration would be number of sixes hit during the career.

Shahid Afridi is second on the list after Jayasuriya however is six per game ratio is second to none considering the number of games he has played. He also has a good ratio in test cricket.

This list needs to be re-titled.

Even Rizwan Cheema deserves a mention ahead of the some players mentioned. Obviously not in the top 10.

This list is just another example of the English trying to hold on to thier cricketing morals and values.

Its just about being english and what comes with being english.

This list has nothing to do with how hard and far you can hit the ball!

MalikMohsin
24th June 2009, 23:27
That is good news for a change. What i saw on the first semi final and final was just proper sensible batsman inning who has shown the patient and accelerate the run rate with
single / double runs, including a few fours, and sixes, have helped Pakistan a lot.

If Afridi doesn't feature on greatest hitter in history, that is good for a change because i want to see Afridi to develop the mature inning rather than to play like blind cricketer who decides to hit six from the first ball.
