KARACHI, Feb 12: Pakistan's top all-rounder Shahid Afridi is looking for top performance in the forthcoming tour of India starting later this month to help the country win the Test and One-day series.

"I am fully aware that India-Pakistan series will be tension-packed and it will be a hard tour but it's my goal to perform under pressure," Shahid Afridi said in an interview on Saturday.

"It's going to be my first full tour to India and I am keen to earn honour and glory for the country against the arch-rivals," he pointed out.

"Indians will be having a slight edge of home conditions. But if our batting clicked it's going to be an interesting series," double world record holder Afridi remarked.

"We have to produce top class performance in batting, bowling and fielding to defeat India at their home grounds," he asserted.

Karachi-born Afridi said Australian tour had toughened the boys and they had improved their performance at the later stage of the tour.

"Tough tour to Australia will benefit the player in the Indian series," he hoped.

Twenty-four-year-old Afridi had the honour of hitting the fastest one-day hundred off just 37 balls against Kenya in 1996. Recently he became the first batsman in ODI history to complete 200 sixes, also have the record of a strike rate of over 100.

He said he was trying to curb his habit of hitting every ball for a six.

He said Pakistan lacked batting experience as compared to India. "Look they have Tendulkar, Sehwag, Dravid, Laxman, who can play long innings," he said.

"Staying at the crease for long periods is key in Test matches. We have only two good batsmen in Inzamam and Youhana," Afridi maintained.

"So in this scenario young lot like Salman Butt, Yasir Hameed and others got to be consistent to help in building the innings," he said.

Shahid Afridi said Pakistan also does not have top class spinner in their line-up. He said leg spinner Danish Kaneria is our main spinner but added that Indian batsmen have good track record against spinners in their home grounds.

He said even the world's top spinner Shane Warne had not been very successful against the Indians.-APP

Inshallah Shahid bhai will enjoy much success against India in the upcoming series.

I think that Shahid is genuinely trying to curb his natural instincts. We saw it in the final Test match and we saw it in the 2nd final of the VB series. My only worry was that he was run out on both occasions!!!

And whilst the truth may hurt, its true Yoyo and Inzi are the only two batsman we have who can be considered to be truely world class. We have yet to see any eye popping and consistent performances from the rest. Im a big fan of Yasir Hameed and i still believe he can transform himself into a world class batsman. If only he could solve his fishing problem.

i seem to recall him making a century last time we toured india. whats this, then, about his first full tour to india?
and this seems to indicate he's already a certain selection for the test team ...

by full tour, he probably means to say a tour having both ODIs and tests... the one the last time, only tests were played.

and he hasn't hit 200 sixes... why does the paper say so??? |-K

he should be a certain selection for the test team... he hit that 141 the last time and had a very good tour then.... also he is better than razzaq and malik.

razzaq is horrid against spin and malik can't bowl... so afridi is better.

Well id pick on Shahid on current form. Anything he has done in the past is a bonus and shows he is capable of producing under Test conditions in India.

he has a terrific record in and against india.

plus, he seems to be a completely different guy against the indians.

and now he seems determined to do well in the test arena.... so give him a chance.

the one 141 he made against india, was nearly half the pak total.

Come on lets not be childish Gary. You know exactly what i mean.

The point is and even you and the rest of the Shahid haters will have to admit that his batting and bowling have improved signifincantly over the past 6-7 months since Bob took over.

When Bob took over no one would have have even dreamt of talking about Shahid playing Test cricket again and now day by day its becoming more of a reality. Im not saying that he should definately play but he should seriously be considered for the Test series.
