Pakistan Cricket Board chief Ejaz Butt was asked to retire by Parliamentary Committee chairman Jamshed Khan Dasti during a hearing on cricket affairs at the Parliament house.

In an interesting exchange of words between Butt and the Chairman of the parliamentary committee, Jamshed Khan Dasti, the former was reminded that even for government servants the retirement age was 60 years.

“Butt sahib even government employees retire at 60. How old are you,” Dasti asked Butt.

“I am 70,” replied Butt at the hearing on cricket affairs at the parliament house.

“I think enough is enough. You have done 10-years overtime. You should now retire,” Dasti responded to the PCB chief’s remarks who retorted: “Yes but even at this age the national team won the T20 World Cup recently under my chairmanship.”

Dasti replied that for this achievement the committee had already congratulated him.

“But then tell us what happened in Sri Lanka to the team’s performance where our players could not even manage 70 runs, as Chairman of the board are you not responsible?” Dasti asked Butt.

The sheer arrogance and stupidity of the man is beyond belief and we have this senile buffoon representing our Cricket on the international stage.

Does he think he scored the winning runs or got Dilshan for 0 ?

Under his leadership the Sri Lankan cricket team almost died after he had promised them Presidential security. How about taking responsibility for that diabolical debacle.

I've never found HindustanTimes credible. I've read a lot of masala news from this newspaper over the last years.

Seeing as they are reporting things from Pakistan newspapers you can put your RAW conspiracy theories to one side.

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Sports on Thursday let the Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Ijaz Butt off the hook while failing to fulfill their tall claims about grilling him over the many blunders in cricket administration which have made a mockery of the game in the country.

In its last meeting, the NA committee members had vowed to take tough action against the PCB chief for failing to appear before the important forum in its last two sessions and even warned of issuing a bailable warrant in his name if he missed the July 30th meeting.

But the crucial Thursday session proved a damp squib as the rather deflated bunch of committee members failed to put Ijaz on the spot over the many blunders including the lapse in security of the Sri Lankan team earlier this year which led to a terrorist attack, the snatching of World Cup 2011 matches from Pakistan by the ICC, the resignation of several former Test cricketers from the Board as well as the recent defeats in Sri Lanka.

Although the chaotic affairs of the PCB as well as the recent accusations against the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) officials pertaining to human trafficking did come under discussion on Thursday, the committee which met at the NA Secretariat saw its chairman Jamshed Khan Dasti not showing any spine as he appeared too eager to please the PCB chief, much in contrast to his earlier statements where he promised tough action against PCB including approaching chief justice for a suo moto action.

However, legislators from MQM, Syed Tayyab Hussain and Iqbal Mohammad Ali Khan, and PPP’s Ms. Nasim Akter hurled numerous questions at Ijaz Butt but could not get satisfactory replies on any of the controversial issues.

For example, when asked by Tayyab to explain about the recent media reports of rifts in the Pakistan team and some wrong doings during the current tour of Sri Lanka, the PCB chief casually replied that ‘most of the things reported in media are incorrect.’

Dasti, surprisingly on the defensive, assured the angry legislators that a sub-committee had already been formed to look into the affairs of the cricket board which will submit its report to the committee and all the issues will be comprehensively discussed in a joint session.

A PML (N) legislator Saud Majeed will head the sub-committee comprising Ms Nasim Akhtar, Ms Tasneem Siddiqui, Iqbal Mohammad Ali Khan and Syed Tayyab Hussain.
Meanwhile, the Federal Sports Minister Pir Aftab Shah Jilani also criticised the proceedings of the committee on Thursday and asked the NA body’s chairman to follow the proper rules of the committee proceedings.

A clear breach of committee rules was also witnessed when an uninvited person spoke on the recent Pakistan hockey affairs from the legislators’ bench which perturbed the Sports Minister Jilani. ‘This is unfair. I have my reservations over the proceedings of the committee as nobody has the authority to speak until invited by the committee and allowed by the chair. Please follow the rules as we are the elected representatives,’ said Jilani. Dasti later ordered the person to leave the committee room.

Banned ex-Olympians Mansoor Ahmed and Naveed Alam submitted detailed reports to the committee over the human-trafficking allegation. Surprisingly, secretary PHF Asif Bajwa was not given proper time to explain his position on the issue.

The NA body also formed a five-member sub-committee which will submit report over human trafficking allegations.

Butt needs to be removed, if only for the way he reacted to the terrorist attack during the SL tour (let alone other blunders).

Ever since you took over as the PCB Chairman, the cricket of Pakistan has clinically declined. The Pakistan team won the WT20 under your regime however the credit must only handed to the players. For the last year or so Pakistan cricket affairs has become a SITCOM for the world of cricket and for those who do not follow cricket at all.
Unfortunatly politics has never stayed away from cricket. But the politics you played to muscle your way to the post is respectable as Zardari making history and becoming president. Your response to the international criticism is of emotion and no logic and I fear pakistans membership in the ICC for the near future..
Had you provided the president level of cover you promised to the sri lanka team Pakistan wouldnt be in this shambles. Had you provided even
adequate security for the Sri Lanka team then the attack on the team could have been avoided and saved the lives of those heroic policemen.
In request of the millions of Pakistani supporters out there I pledge that you hang up your gloves. Please allow the Pakistani team to rebuild and avoid any controversy which has been brought on by your regime. So long Mr Butt we promise not to throw any eggs.

Ok dear fan then don't keep high expectations from pcb because if you put a new person in my place it won't make our batsmen inform and neither will it teach them how to play as a team or how to play on seaming wickets. I am just their to make money and if you were in my position you wudhave been doin the same... enjoying vip class plane tickets and 5 star hotels....so don't hate if ur grapes are sour...

ISLAMABAD: The chairman of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Sports, Mr Jamshed Khan Dasti, has called upon Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani to sack Pakistan Cricket Board chief Ijaz Butt because of the debacle in the Sri Lankan cricket series.

Sri Lanka won the third match on Monday and the One-Day series after winning a three-match test series. Mr Butt, 72, has been under constant criticism of the NA committee over his performance.

‘Whether it is the attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team or the poor treatment of former test cricketers Javed Miandad, Aamir Sohail and Abdul Qadir, or the sketchy handling of important affairs such as the World Cup 2011 matches with the ICC, the total performance of PCB is now before us and I think its the best time for a man of his age to quit the post in the best interest of the game’, said Mr Dasti of the PPP.

He said: ‘The way we lost the test series was pathetic.’
