Just used Sher Amin on the weekend for the first time.
Best bat I've ever used by a distance.
Btw, xkalibur I've got those Plus 10000 pads too, they're extremely lightweight and very easy to run in, but the material from the front frays pretty easily. :inzi

Great to hear that! I hope it goes really well!
It is hell of a bat!! It has got alot of meat on it!
Ahh I love those light weight style pads because as you said running becomes much easier (Don't get me wrong I am not :inzi :) ). But one thing that I hate about these lightweight pads (not CA in fact every brand) is that they get dirty quickly and more importantly it becomes a bit difficult to clean them

Hey pads only get dirty if you slide around to get back in the crease. If you run like Inzamam you never take that sort of chance :inzi Turning twos into singles will keep the pads clean as a whistle!
And I know what you mean about the meat of the bat, balls were flying away for boundaries from thick edges. :afridi

Brother, I sincerely apologise but it wont be possibel just yet, just back from long holidays and work is like mad with outstanding stuff, need to sort out tenants for my flat plus some travel inshallah nearer the season will do.
BTW, yes, it is limited edition, and has got about similar grains if not more. The irlines no longer let you take them in the plane due to security reasons so I was a littel concerned about damage on the way but it was okay MA.
Do you know them or get any benefit? You must ask for comission from this lot :-), they were very busy I must say...........seems to be doing really well.
I had asked them to get it knocked in and oiled before picking it up so they apparently did ..........but not sure if it actually happened, it does have two marks of seam and no obvious sign of oiling, will find out soon!
Ahh no worries mate! Post them whenever you have time
Ohh okayy what I have heard is that Bubber Sher has two types English willow. One of them is Grade 1 and one of them is Grade 2. So I am assuming Bubber Sher LE will be grade 1+. I have heard about this bat from one or two guys and from what they said it sounded great. I hope it goes really well for you and you score tons of runs with it
Uhmm you can figure out whether the bat has been oiled or not by feeling its texture. If you have a ball then bounce it couple of times and see whether seam marks are visible or not. Since your bat has arounf 10-11 ggrains then you will have to knock it a bit less cmopare to fewer grains Bubber Sher
Ahh mann don't worry about the little cosmetic damge on the bat. For instance, if it is on the back then don't worry because it won't affect your bat nor its performance. So no worries mate! In fact you should be happ and thankful to ALLAH (SWT) that you went to Pakistan and got this bat along yourself. I will share my AS V3 story with you. One of my club mate (his name is Saiyed Bhai) went to Pakistan to see his ailing father (who later passed away) in October. So when he went there I told him to get me CA 12000 Plus so he came back to Canada in the end or begining of November. When he came back he told me about AS V3 and i got really excited about this bat. So in next few days I gave him money to get me AS V3. Actually he has some friends in Karachi who usually ship him bats. He himself was getting AS V3 as well so I paid him for AS V3 as well and told him to get me one. Days went by then months went by and there was still no trace of bats being shipped. I frequently asked Saiyed Bhai whether they are shipped out or not. He said that his friend is busy he did not get time to pick them up, has got family problems so couldn't pick them up and so on. Then about 2 weeks ago another friend of mine (Naveed Bhai) had ordered two bats from Pakistan and both of his bats got drilled. So after hearing this I got a bit scared so I backed out and told Saiyed Bhai that don't get a bat for me. He said okay and sadly I did not get AS V3. Since you got your bat along yourself I would say you are lucky because what I heard was that stuff being shipped from Pakistan is being treated a bit more so perhaps they are doing it because of that. If I had relatives or family members in Karachi then I would have told them to send me a bat along someone but unfortunately I don't have any lving in Karachi :(
loll brother I don't know people at UT Sports nor I get any benefits whatsoever. In fact, I have never been to UT Sports. The thing is that I don't want people to pay alot for a bat when they go to Pakistan and more importantly some people are not aware of good places that sell original legit stuff so due ot there unawareness they sometimes end up buying a fake bat for same price as original bat. If you know then why not tell it to other people?
I am writing this post from my phone so if I made any mistake please forgive me

hahah loll okk
The Gray Nicolls pads I have are pretty light as well compare to traditional style pads. But they are not as light as these pads/
Right now the bat is a bit new so it will require knocking (unless you did it) but as you play with the bat it will onl get better and better
Uhmm do you mind posting a picture of your whole kit? It seems you have a great kit :)

i have a question that i think will horrify most of you, but thought it was worth the ask anyway. im a very average (ie pretty crappy) batsman, but like to play for fun, and as with most casual pakistani players, its more about belting the ball as hard as possible using the full weight of my rotund belly.
anyway, i recently broke my slazenger something or other, cant remember what its called, and so am looking for a replacement bat. im not constrained much by budget, but am by time and ability to get out to a good shop, given im in london.
i do have another bat at home, but am very undecided whether to use it. its a babar sher i think, and its one i bought ina charity auction last year, signed by shahid afridi and younis khan. i know these types of things are not there to be used, but i have two questions:
1) how valuable an item is a signed bat like that? if i were to try to sell it, would any of you, as die hard fans, be tempted to bid, and what would you pay for it?
2) i would assume that monetary interest would be quite limited, and if thats the case, would it be really so wrong to just use the bat to play with?
Cover Drive
4th February 2010, 19:22
1) This depends on everyones budget. Most people on here are students and for students it is quite hectic to bid up to the mark. Most likely they will low ball. I would love to bs but again as I said it will be within my limits. But just curious what did you pay for it and how much are you looking for?
2) If I were you then I would never use that bat. I myself have a plain tape ball bat which is signed by Mohammad Yousuf, Wahab Riaz and Nasir Jamshed. I don't play with that bat at all! In fact I wish to get it framed and put it up on my rooms wall :D

not really looking to sell it, the purchase was for charity rather than an investment - but wondered whether it wouldbe something that fans would be interested in collecting or not.

I was thinking about that as well. You bought it for a good cause and if you sell it for a higher price then you are doing something wrong. I am not blaming you or accusing you that you have done that. I am just saying in general. But everything is upto you whether you want to sell it or not
Uhmm people do collect them whereas they also play with the bats. If someone has that bat they would never play with it loll
By the way if you don't mind can you please put some pictures of the bat? It would be interesting to see whether this bat was personally used by Afridi even if not it would be still worth having a look at it
(If I said something that might have hurt you or your feelings then I apologize for it and I did not mean to that)

Hello Everyone!!!,Assalam o aliekum, Just had a question regarding cricket bats!! I am going to buy a bat, i found GM dxm hero, hand made english willow, oiled, knocked, and protected, it has a good feel. I live in Saudi Arabia, it is on sale from 705 saudi riyals to 495 saudi riyals. IM an opening and/or middle order batsman. I love driving the ball, and am a timer of the ball not a hitter!!
So i want to know how the bat is, if anyone has ever used it before? Is it worth the cost? Is it suited to my batting position and style? NEED URGENT REPLY, its goin out of stock!!
If it is suited for me and fills all the other requirements, what else should i check in the bat before buying it.
Thank u in advance for the reply!!!!!!

A GM DXM Hero... get only if it's an L.E. or at least 909 model. The weight should suit your preference ... I guess it should be between 2.8 to 2.10

Walikumasalam,
Yes, GM DXM Hero is a good bat. But as Uncle Sam said which model it is? In GM bats there are several ranges such as 101,303,404,,606,707,808 (5 Star), 909, Original and Original Limited Edition.
909, Original and Original Limited Edition are Grade 1 English Willow (G1 +) whereas 808 is Grade 2 English Willow. If it is 909 or Original or Original Limited Edition then I would say it is worth buying it.
When looking to buy a bat you should see how it feels in your hand. You will be using the bat see how does it feel in your hand and what weight suits you. As Uncle Sam said weight between 2.8-2.10 lbs would be good.
Since you are opener this bat would be good for you and since you like to drive then this bat is good for you. GM bats tend to have less bow in the bat compare to Pakistani bats. Less bow bats are mainly for driving the ball
From the price I am assuming it is Original or Original Limited Edition
I hope it helps! If you have any other question please don't hesitate asking

THank u very much it helped alot!!
its GM dxm original, the feel is really good(different from the other bats i have held), it has a comfortable grip.
I wanted to ask whts the difference between a hand made and a factory made bat? which one is preferable? does it matter if the bat has more or less grains? Wht else should i check for when buying a bat? So is this bat worth the cost?
Thanku very much again!!

No worries brother!!
If it is GM DXM Hero Original then it is great bat for its value. I would say buy it! This bat is test level bat. Furthermore, it feels good in your hand then it is very good despite the fact others didn't feel good
I am not quite sure about the difference between handmade and factory made bats. In fact, both are good. I would not say one is better than the other. I believe this bat is both because it is DXM which is liek compturized weight balance something like that. Therefore, doesn't matter which one it is both are good!
I wouldn't say it matters. I mean the performace of the bat will be same whether it has more grains or less grains. More grains bat tend to crack soon compare to less grain bats. In other words, the higher the amount of grains the sooner the bat will break. On the other hand if you have less grains then the bat will require more knocking compare to higher grain bat which requires less knocking
Uhmm you usually check how does the bat feel in your hand. That is the main thing! Also check for blemishes and dead knots on the face of the bat. Also check if there are any cracks on the face or edges. I don't think blemishes is a major factory when selecting a bat. But see if there are any cracks and/or dead knots.
Yes the bat is worth it cost. If I were you I would buy it for sure
Two questions I have are that:
What weight is the bat?
This question might sound awkward but is it original bat?

No worries brother!! Maafi Mushkilla ;-)
In 2.8 lbs it is very good. Mostly bats are short handles. Long handles bat are for tall players such as Umar Gul
Uhmm usually the stickers tell whether the bat is original or not. In addition, grains also tell whether the bat is original or not. But since you are not exposed to original and fake bat. Here is a link which has pictures of Hero DXM Original Limited Edition bat. Just use the pictures as a reference to see the stickers and match with that bat

Yes do post pictures when you get the bat. Sure do tell me with Hero
Hell noo!! Honestly I would love to answer more question if you (or anyone else) have any. Doesn't matter what question it is but I will love to answer them :)
By the way brother where in KSA do you live and play?
JazakALLAH Khair
i play with my club here in dammam, in the last few games i was using my coach's bat CA plus 10000, i played two unbeaten matchwinning innings in the last two games with it, but i felt bad in always using my coach's bat. So i decided to look for the available choices here, from the choices i preffered GM.

loll I am asking alot of questions (I hope you don't mind). I was born and brought up in Dammam as well. I have been hearing from people about cricket in Dammam but I am not sure where it is because when I was there I wasn't aware of any. I just played with my brother outside my house (well apartment)
Yeahh it is better to get your own bat rather than using someones. You never know when you will be damaging it

I was born in 1990 at Waaladaa. I lived in Tushbashii. You know Waha mall? I lived close to that. If not Waha Mall then you know that soccer stadium near Khobar-Dammam highway? I lived about 10 minutes away from there. I moved to Canada in end of 2001.
I know where Ras Tanurah/Rahima is because my school was there. It was there before but later it moved to Dammam.
At the time when we moved to Canada Dhahran Mall was not constructed but I have seen this mall when I visited KSA a year or so ago.
Man I jus love that country!
Uhmm I am not sure but at that time I was not aware of any nor I had heard of it from anyone of my age or a bit older at that time. Nor I think my parents had heard of it. So I don't think these league existed at that time.
One of my club mate once mentioned to me that his nephew plays in Eastern Province Cricket Association but I am not sure about his name or anything loll

Omair Bhai (xkalibur80) those bats are amazing!
AS V3 looks awesome!!
UT Sports bat aren't that bad either they look pretty decent as well.
How does each bat feel and how is the ping of each bat?
Thanks Uzair - let's see how they perform....the ping was pretty good but it was really the balance that I was looking for and the blue UT bat as well as ASV3 have the best balance of all.
Both of those bats are more for stroke play rather than slogging. On the other hand, the two other UT bats are very similar to Bubber Sher in terms of balance and think edges.

Yes I got 2 pairs of pads - CA10000 moulded pads and Kookaburra (not genuine but very light)
As far as gloves are concerned, I got Ihsan Inferno 550 for myself and got a few RBK gloves as well as a pair of SS for my cousin.
Also got Ihsan WK pads and gloves - I did some catching practice with these gloves in order to see why Kamran Akmal has a hard time behind the stumps...LoL!!

Ohh okay. I am pretty sure there will be a cricket store in Markham so you can get it from there. It is like $5-$10. But I don't think your bats need to be oiled. But you can figure that out from it's texture and by feeling it. One of the Bubber Sher which is dark seems to be oiled

I like those CA pads. They are very light since they don't have canes in them. I might buy them or I might go for GM RSB.
The new Inferno 550 gloves? They are good gloves as they have pittard leather palm

I mean, what do u like about it after having a good knowledge base on cricket bats? Personally, I don't know what the pick and balance is like but I would definitely resist the urge of paying $170.00 for it.
I would rather keep my eyes open to buy a season old Icon DXM L.E for around $200.00
And yes, I have some interaction with Solitaire in the past and know about their custom made G1 for around £100.00 but have not heard any review or feedback on their products.
For softs, I currently have Redback's stuff.. which is perhaps the best I have come across so far.
Also, tried to buy SP gloves, pads and possibly a bat from Younus Khan but it didn't happen. With the courtesy of Mr Peter, I briefly talked to Younus Khan on the phone while he and a few other Pakistani team players were in Australia and were visiting Saxon Sports (YK's kit sponsor SP) in an attempt to buy one of his personal bats but as expected, he wouldn't sell.
My deal with Saxon sports was that if they could help me buy a YK's personal bat, I would buy a full kit from SP but oh well... it didn't happen.

Uhmm sounds true. Another thing I noticed about this bat is that it is normal GM Icon. I mean it is not GM +.
I agree with you but Uncle Sam it is a bit hard to find good used GM Icon Original LE bats out there
Aren't you on CSF? Lots of people have Solitaire on CSF and they highly rate Roger and his work
Ohh okayy that sucks loll. But don't these players usually give out there bats for free? I mean sometimes I have heard people saying I got this bat from that player or that player. I haven't seen Redbacks soft so I am not too sure about that. why don't you post a picture of them? (If you can) I guess it is fair saying that Mr. Peter did not help you out
Uncle Sam what you do think should I add another $40-$50 and try to get 909 bat or original bat? I mean add another $40-$50 and get a Grade 1 bat. What do you think. The reason why I am after Icon range is because I have GM original LE pads and gloves so they would match really well with them
jazakALLAH Khair/thanks

13th February 2010, 02:48
well, it's your call if u wanna just match the bat with the pads and willing to shed off $200.00... may be you can try to get just the GM L.E. stickers and put it on your favorite bat... cuz buying an online bat may or may not turn out to be a lemon and u will end up not feeling comfortable and supported from your playing bat?

Did u check the chunky piece of willow in Tendu's bat? The edges are obviously huge but look at the spine height.

lol... wouldn't it be nice if that was the case? I remember offering £300.00 to Shahid Afridi a few years ago in England but he wouldn't sell it.
These guys give out usually either the rejected bats or the ones that are no more of use to them.
Also these days, there is a new trend getting popular. These pros hardly ever get their bats knocked in, so the bat life is usually a couple games but the ping is faster than a train.

Make sense Uncle Sam. I have never bought any bat online so I am not really aware of lemon sites out there. Uncle Sam usually I am after making my sets. For instance, I have CA 12K pads, gloves and a bat. In fact the pair of gloves I have are now old model but I have ordered newer model as well
What do you think about this scenario that what if I plan or consider buying a custom G1 Solitaire bat. As far the specs goes what if I give Icon specs such as thick edges, high sweetspot etc and later I can buy Icon stickers.
So far I have never bought any bat personally. By personally I mean I have never bought a bat before trying it to see how it feels
Uncle Sam
13th February 2010, 03:15
Well, it's a gamble and your chances of getting a deal are good if you are buying from someone with a good reputation and good service.
Since it's not always a good idea to give someone an advise without him asking for one but I would friendly suggest that you should try a Redback Allegiance in G1 in 2.7ish if you look for performance rather than making sets. Send an email to Gary and ask him if he can whittle one for you as money don't seem to be a problem for you. The price may be slightly higher but chances are that you won't like any other bats anymore.
On the hand, if u wanna go for GM stickers than make sure that original (not fake ones) are actually available for sale anywhere?
Uncle Sam
13th February 2010, 03:19
You can give my reference to Gary and hopefully he will try to give you a lil break if u decide to go for a Redback Allegiance (remember ask him for a chunky G1 in 2.7ish).. you won't be disappointed ....

I am fully aware of Redbacks bats and its service. He makes incredible bats and impressive bats. I haven't seen alot of Redbacks bats perhaps one or two is answer. If you have one can you post pictures of it?
Your second option seems and sounds great. It also suits the best to me. The reason behind that is that recently I just bought Bubber Sher and few soft ranges as well so I have spent around $400 lately. So my mom will not right away let me buy a bat loll you know what I am trying to say.she is not strict but... So by May I will probably convince her :)

btw - i see your in toronto, where do you play? which nets do you go to?
In canada - i think the best bat you can get is at Qasra sports for about 200 bucks. I bough my GN predator (5 star) there before and its actually the best bat i've ever used. its has a feather weight pickup, and hits better than any of my previous bats (CA Gold, Slazenger V200, CA 5000, Ihsan King). and i think the 5 stars are not even grade 1 willow.........

I read alot on CSF but never post there. I got my BAS through asad at as sports. im a bit of a bat nut like yourself. Where did you see that GM for sale btw? something about those stickers dont look right to me...but could just be me.
btw - i see your in toronto, where do you play? which nets do you go to?
In canada - i think the best bat you can get is at Qasra sports for about 200 bucks. I bough my GN predator (5 star) there before and its actually the best bat i've ever used. its has a feather weight pickup, and hits better than any of my previous bats (CA Gold, Slazenger V200, CA 5000, Ihsan King). and i think the 5 stars are not even grade 1 willow.........
loll last year was the first time I started playing club cricket so at the begining I wasted money on poor stuff. For instance, I bought GN 3 Star set which I later realized that it is garbage loll
Now I am aware of good stuff out there so InshALLAH I will now buy good stuff in future
Yes, I live in Brampton whereas my club practice at Hagee Sports in Mississauga. I have also practiced with PPers at Hagee. Are you in Toronto as well?
Did you buy GN Predator Five Star for $200? AKPro is selling four star for $210. You got a great deal there. MoYo used Predator as well
Yeah five star bats are not grade 1. They are grade 2
Asad Bhai at AS Sports is pretty good guy

yah i got a five star for $200 bucks. I've know the qasra guy for years, when he first started. so he gave me a good deal. I'd be a little wary of Ak Pro, they seem to get the worst pieces of willow. at least i can tell a differnce in the bats from AK pro vs Qasra. we actually practice just down the street from hagee at khan sports. are you already on a team then? u must be in edcl, are you in premier?

Ohh okayy
Last week my GN 3 Star bat got cracks in it so I called that guy (Johnatan) so he told me to bring the bat in so I will take it to him
Our club used to practice at Khan Sports as well but Hagee's nets are much better by Khan's in terms of width, length etc
Yes I am in EDCL, no I am not in Premier. My old club had a team in premier but this new club which just got formed it is in 5th division. I had horrible first season loll

lol... wouldn't it be nice if that was the case? I remember offering £300.00 to Shahid Afridi a few years ago in England but he wouldn't sell it.
These guys give out usually either the rejected bats or the ones that are no more of use to them.
Also these days, there is a new trend getting popular. These pros hardly ever get their bats knocked in, so the bat life is usually a couple games but the ping is faster than a train.
haha lol
I agree with you these pros these days get the bat for short term rather than long term basis
The new Boom Boom bat seems impressive. InshALLAH I will buy that bat

By the way do you have a Redback bat?
Also how do you manage to buy a player bat? Have you bought any players bat in past? If so who and how was the bat?

Pads aren't bulky unless u compare them with Puma or SP pads and they are unbelievably light and extremely comfortable as well. I don't have the pics of gloves at this moment but will post em some time later.
Last year I bought a Redback Allegiance and wasn't lucky enough to play with it. A team mate snatched it soon as I got it out of my bag and he paid me a lil more than what I had paid for. That's why I am gonna pick 3 to 4 of 'em during my visit to UK as a couple of other friends are desperate to get one. One of these guys has played for team USA and he knows what he is getting.

Ohh okay. I kinda like those Puma pads which McCullum wears. I saw Iridium 6000 pads for $100 which I found quite good price.
Whenever you have time do post the picture
So if I plan and wish to buy one then is mine including in "3 to 4"? Also are these custom made or "newly made bat" (which does not have our own specifications). 160 Pounds is something around $260 CAD. Lekka is offering me a bat for 165 Pounds including shipping and free pair of gloves. But Redback is miles better than Lekka :))
How much are the pads and gloves at Redback?

What can I say man? The whole bat is a freaking sweet spot.
I met Sangakkara at Gary's workshop a couple of years ago where Sanga was there to pick a couple bats he had ordered. As you know with G1 willow in all top quality bats, there is always a trade off between soft pressed bat with greater ping and shorter life span vs hard pressed with reduction in ping but expanded life span of the bat.... I think it boils down to pick, balance and weight transfer in top bats when compared with each other. And I personally experienced Redback to be in the very top drawer.
Cover Drive
13th February 2010, 16:02
Again it sounds impressive
But isn't that true that if you go for hard pressed it won't ping good in the begining but later after certain period of time it will ping like hell?
In this case I would prefer a bat which will last me really long
I saw few pictures of Redback on CSF and in 2.11 it was soo thick and the sweetspot was stunner! I mean it was really long. By long I don't mean long like GM, Kook etc. It is like father of all of these
I will mail Roger today at Solitaire and ask him if he can make a bat like Redback loll but one thing will be for sure that Roger's work will no where near Gary's work
Where do you rate Redback among Salix and Warsop?
Also how many grains do you prefer? I would prefer arounf 8-11 grains because I like little bit of wider grains and like that a bat will last longer as well
Uncle Sam
13th February 2010, 16:20
Yep, 8 to 10 grains usually have the best performance as an to 8 to 10 years old tree produces a pretty strong, moist and lively timber.
It's pretty hard to differentiate among Pod1, Venom Pro and Allegiance. All three are top stuff... I have heard though that Salix is now produced in India, they just give the final touches in UK to justify the 'made in UK' tag; however, this does not mean the bat is of a poor quality.
Cover Drive
13th February 2010, 16:37
I have CA 12000 Plus which I got for $180 and this bat has around 8 grains. Although the ping isn't that great at the moment. I believe it is because these Pakistani bats are hard pressed and take a bit longer to perform because they require more knocking. Am I right here?
Yes I have heard that Salix is being made in India lately. Uhmm I would say bat quality is no longer that great since it is being made in India. GM bats are made in India as wlel but GM top bats such as Original LE that is made in England (as far I have heard)
I haven't seen those three bats in real as no one over here has them but Uncle Sam from pictures I have seen of Salix and Redback, I would say these two will take the top seat
The other day I saw a Salix Fera including shipping to Canada for something around $240. I think it is pretty decent price for Fera
In Sallix I like there Pod 1 (Black) gloves. They look really nice
InshALLAH when I will go to Pakistan in summer I will try to get custom made pads and gloves.

Prolly cuz I am not a generous buyer and don't need a bat at this moment, plus I consider the gamble factor in buying a bat from internet before I open my wallet. I think it wont be very hard to find this type of bat in this price range.
For me personally, I think $120.00 shipped to U.S/Canada is a price which will be hard to resist.

15th February 2010, 01:01

$120 is too good to be true. It would be really hectic to find a custom made G1 in that price
Honestly to me the price sounds very reasonable. As far gambling factor is concerned Roger is reputable seller and is quite honest as well so at the moment I don't see anything that is worrisome.
But if you are talking about that seller (#2 one) then he is trustworthy as well because I bought my GM Original LE gloves from him for £30
Another thin Uncle Sam how do you rate Pakistani soft good? Where do you rate CA, AS, Ihsan etc in terms of there soft goods.
I personally I dont rate them very high because Pakisiatnii pads are a bit too bulky and are big. I have CA 12K pads which are a bit too big for me so I don't use them anymore. But CA gloves are impressive! I currently have CA 12K gloves (old model now) and those gloves were very good. They were up at the top in terms of protection and comfort. Since I liked them so I have ordered another pair of them but newer model. I have also ordered Ihsan gloves. Majid Bhai told me they are really good and light so I ordered 750 and 950
Uncle Sam
15th February 2010, 01:54
I think the safety feature is perhaps not a whole lot different in Pakistani or any other brand. It all boils down to fitting and comfort level.. and perhaps 'looks and durability' to a lesser extent.
So it depends from person to person...
I remember meeting Clive Lloyd many many years ago and had the chance to examine his bat... guess how many grips he had on the handle?
9 !!!
I asked why so many grips? He grinned and extended his hand for a handshake... My whole hand disappeared into his palm... those were gigantic hands with extra long fingers. He said, a regular handle's diameter simply won't fit into my hands so I HAVE to put on so many grips to make it comfortable and usable.
So yeah, one should go with whatever he feels comfortable with regardless of the brand and make.
I still think Pakistani made pro stuff is a lot better than many other brands in general.
Cover Drive
15th February 2010, 02:18
They do have long fingers so its not really a surprise. Nowdays grips like Aero and Lekka Xtrax are made to be thicker. In other words one properly fitted Aero or Lekka grip feels like two of normal grips. You probably know what I mean. I mean you probably know about these grips
and by Pakistani Pro what range do you mean? Top range? For instance AS V3 in AS?
InshALLAH when I go Pakistan in summer I will get customize gloves loll. I mean I would like to have those

i was looking through the bats at this page only, and the one uncle sam posted the Talisman one, thats not of good quality mate, 29 grains means high chances of it breaking/cracking...
ideal bat should have 8-12 vertical grains... god help u if u manage to buy a bat with horizontal grains... the straighter the grains the better (but not straight lines either lolz) ... there shouldnt be a big colour shift/difference... for eg. if its half bleached/half baked/brown vertically... than its chances of breaking/cracking/crappy shot momentum are high... toe guards is always a good idea... no matter what u r told, factory ready/knocked etc, u must knock in ur bat, dont take it straight to games... take it to practice, start from spin, medium, than fast bowling is ideal.... oiling depends on the countries u r from... keep the bat away from garages or washrooms or laundryrooms, or where moisture is existent... it will ruin the bat or its stroke play... make sure handles are always flexible or have ice ready for ur hands/arms afterwards... always buy ur bat urself coz no one else knows whats right for u (size/weight/feel)... never worry about stickers on a bat... u should be concerned about the wood not the sticker... lots of fake bats out there esp in canada/us/uk... be careful... thats it for now, i'll post more later if anything i forgot or want to add...
when buying a new bat dont get adhesive tape for facing on the bat done for u... have them sent it with the bat but not installed on the bat, they could potentially hide any damage on the bat.... also make sure the bat dont have any wood-age telling chunks in there... that's bad willow... dont place ur bat in over heated areas aswell... like leaving it in the trunk when its like hell outside... dont throw it around... dont use it with/against cheap balls... and bats are not meant to fly, nor endure smashingly pain, so if u score a duck or had a brain fart out there, dont blame the bat for it :ibutt

uncle sam and cover drive u r welcome...
the grains/wood/color etc these just tell you what may happen to ur investment in that bat... it doesnt necessarily mean that, say for eg that Talisman bat uncle sam posted, that bat will break on its first ball played no... it just means that if a bat with 10 grains will play 50 overs life, than this bat may have 20-30 with its 29 grains... or in the odd occasion prob just 10 or below or maybe 50 or more... but the chances do increase of it having a shorter life compared to other bats... also another crucial thing is how u play with it (shot selections)... if u chase wild deliveries or miss hit a lot, than it doesnt matter what kinda bat u have, it is facing moderate chances of breaking/chipping...

my best bat was the INZI 329 which i bought for $350... sara-wak 9 cane handle, 2-10 weight 10 grains with slight curve lines, english will, it was a beauty with a monster sweet spot... it fell victim to my angry state... in that game i still remember we bowled first, i had a wkt off the first ball, and than went on to get a 5 for 32 in 10 and we conceded 244... and when it came to batting we had a mini collapse and i walked in with sheer determination and attitude to play out the innings, and i was at only 8 when my partner moranically ran me out... it was his call as he hit to mid off, calls for a single, i obliged, and he pulled a salman butt on me saying NO with 2 lazy strides forward, i was half way down, turned back to only realize he had hit it to the fielder's hands... hence following his brain fart, i had my own, smashed my bat a bit to hard in the ground (causing the handle to become loose) cause i was having an amazing game until that part... ahhh good ol memories...

not playing club cricket for past 2-3 yrs, hence no main bat, just some avg practice bats which are almost ready to be tossed out... i forgot to bring my bats from Pakistan, got 2 custom made for 30k rupees, and forgot them there (due to dada's passing away)... i will wait a while to see if someone can bring em over... and that my cousins dont use/abuse them lolz...
the grains look nice... the brown spot on the handle (into the heart of body) doesnt look promising, but apart from that looks a good/decent bat from looks of it... the price mate i would recomend getting a bat from Pakistan/India (have a relative buy it for u, since u r buying from UK and have no personal feel for it) might aswell get it from back home, u can definately get a better bat in that price range. but if that is not an option, than this bat looks ok minus that handle brown spot i mentioned...
oh just had another look at the pics and the bat's body is very flat for my liking mate... thora bohat toh curve hona chahiye its just missing that bow/curve... hence making me predict that the handle will be stiff (non-flexible)... get the person to give u more pics of it from back, and a few other angles and a zoom in on that handle's brown spot... agay app ki marzi hai... now its not looking all that enticing for the price...

Asalamalakium Brother,
Ohh okay where did you get those custom made bats from? I mean which company?
The grains do look pretty decent and this bat looks like it is grade 1 EW although it is somewhere between G1 and G2. The grains are really straight and are evenly spread apart. Since it is not G1 EW the price seems to bother me a bit. If it was around $130-$150 then I would pick it up for sure. Actually mate lately I am looking to get a good English bat. I have CA 12000 Plus and MB Malik Bubber Sher so lately I was looking to get an English bat. InshALLAH I will be going Pakistan in summer so I will be getting 2/3 bats for myself. Most likely I will be getting CA 10000 Plus Limited Edition, AS V3 (for sure InshALLAH) and Ihsan Inferno 950. InshALLAH I will buy AS for sure although I am not sure about other two. Since I already have two Pakistani top bats so it was English bat turn. I appreciate for your advise and yes you are right in that price I can get a better bat. As I said earlier price is bothering me a bit
Yes this bat is pretty straight although to me it seems more like an opener bat. I believe that straight bats tend to be openers bat rather than lower order batsman. In that price I can get G! custom made. Actually it is one of my club mates bat so I was talking to him about bats and he said if you are interested take this. I am not keen to get this bat rather for same price I can go for G1 EW.
When I first saw pictures that stain on the handle area did bother me as well. I told him about that and he told me that it is just handle colour so he didn't really give alot of attention to it.
I agree with you bow/curve is missing in this bat. Atleast there should be a slight bow/curve in the bat so that ball could go a bit further but it is not there.
I think I might go for Solitaire...

u r looking at a better bat (better price, nice handle, good curve/bow)... new seller (dicey), stickers are fake (look at the far right pic of bat, lower part towards the toe, CA sticker is backwards, lolz)... but stickers dont determine how the bat performs... if u or anyone else do think seriously about this bat (i repeat its a new seller on ebay, so be cautious, ask enough questions, and pay by credit card - if any shortcommings u have a chance of getting ur money back)
Mate the first one is not working but the second one doesn't seem to be original.

There are CA bats out there which have proper stickers and proper sticker(s) position but yet are fake. Some even have those small shiny silver stickers but are still fake
Uhmm CA does have good handles whereas some such as Ihsan they don't have good handle. I heard Inferno's handles are weak but lately they have come out with much improved version. My CA 12000 is not performing up its mark yet perhaps it require more knocking but as I play it will improve and get better day by day

Yes, now thats a whole different story of being a bat collector or a bat admirer than actually scoring a lot of runs with these high end bats. Trust me, it's a "laanti" and quite expensive hobby.
Anyway, my highest in the last season was 97 in under first 11 overs of the innings ... included 11 sixes and 3 fours. This score sheet is available on the internet but I am slightly skeptical in revealing my name etc at forums.

Yeahh man when I meant MoYo back in 2008 at NCA I saw few players practicing such as Nasir Jamshed and several others. I should have had look at there bat(s) but at that time I was not fond of bats or equipments. And when I meant MoYo in 2007 he came back from practice and I asked him about his equipment and he said he gets it from England.

Uncle Sam being honest with you without lying to you my dad used to work in PIA and these managers (Talat Ali, Mohammad Ahmed etc) used to work in PIA along my dad and were pretty safe with my dad. So when I met MoYo in 2008 at NCA was due to Mr. Ahmed who made MoYo to meet me. That way I meant MoYo otherwise I would have never met him. When I met him in 2007 it was on roadside. I had MoYo cellphone number for quite long but after few months it always got changed. Even then I was not fond in bats. Now I regret that if I had those opportunity now then I would ask or buy atleast one professional bat. But didn't happen. Now I am after my dad again and am telling him to call Ahmed who was with Pakistan on Australia tour. So lets see what happens
I am pretty sure PM system works when you send it to a MOD(S). Not sure why this is happening with you.

Uncle Sam have you ever used an Carbon Handle bat? If so how was it?
Uncle Sam
16th February 2010, 17:09
I used it in a friend's GN Fusion bat, it's a fully hallow carbon handle.. It felt awesome as the monster bat felt super light... apparently these handles weren't a success (even though already banned by ICC) due to being of a very poor stability... soon as I got out of the nets, my friend went in to bat and at the third ball he faced, the blade flew into the net while the broken hallow carbon handle remained in his hands... GN does provide a free cane handle replacement when you break one of their hallow carbon handles. (you must pay one side shipping).. later GN came with Fusion 2 .... a very expensive bat (pro performance or player edition) with a solid 12 piece cane handle ... I had one of those.
Newbery's carbon core is not a complete hallow handle but a removable core... as shown in the pic, yet still banned by ICC

The GM Majid Bhai has is original GM + Icon 808 bat and it is not stickered up. He paid around £135 poujnds for it and it is in 2.12-2.13ish but feels like 2.9ish. It is aweseom bat and to me it looks better than Bubber Sher. His GM bat is GM + whereas the one I showed you the other day is normal GM bat
Honestly SPS for £110 is wicked deal. If I can one for that price then I will not hesitate getting that one over C6+. I am more keen in getting good English brand bat made in England for a good price rather than this C6+ crap. One of my clubmate of whom I was talking earlier told me he got his UZI player for something around £160/£170 and it is a year or two old model. So this SPS sounds too good to be true. I mean Solitaire is £115 including toe guard and everything so this is much better than Rogers bat as Newbery is miles ahead of him

My father started and owned "Bellingham and Smith" cricket manufacturers for 15 years. We used to make almost all the bats sold in South Africa including our home brand (B@S) , Slazenger , County , Lazer etc. We (and they still do) used only first grade English willow for 90% of our bats with some lower grade for the kids and clud bats. There is absolutely nothing I don't know about cricket bats. Let me tell you some of the better respected brands couldn't make a criket bat to save their lives and it was almost always outsourced to people such as ourselves. We also made cricket bats for almost all the international teams that came here (port elizabeth) . I have met almost all international cricketers of say 5 -10 years ago including big names like Brian Lara and Sachin Tendulkar. Both bought custom made bats from us. The exception being the Australia cricketers who never visited s , but whom I met anyway through functions etc we were always invited to.. On the factory wall till today they have signed their names and we have a collum preserved where we recoreded all their bat weights. I could quite literally make millions if I wasn't sentimental and sold out all the memoribilia I have on ebay.
Before you go out and pay way too much for a brand you might want to know what to look for in a piece of willow. This includes...
6-8 grains STRAIGHT down the willow, with a "knot" on the top of the splice (harder wood , less breakage in this weaker spots) is basic guideline for a high grade bat. The more grains and closer together the more brittle and hard te wood. A heavy bat meeting this descrition means it's a thicker piece of willow that's been pressed more. Most pro's almost all prefer a fat, lightly pressed bat...making it lighter and "meatier" but more likely to break. I could go on all night but in fear of boring you I won't. Feel free to ask m any questions and I will answer to the best of my knowledge.

Saffer... thanks for your post.
How true is the claim made by Ian Healy and Adam Gilchrist during the commentary between Australia and Pak game when camera was focused on Ricky Ponting's bat (an absolute Tank).. "No one else sees the kinda willow used to make the bats for these international players"..
Also, there is a video segment available on the net where Matty Hyden meets with Stuart Kranzbuhler to have a custom made bat .... during the conversation, Stuart looks at a stack of Grade 1 English willow (I would say about 500 pieces), and goes... "Only one two clefts from this stack will qualify to make a bat for Matty"?
I guess my Q is that how common is it for a common user to have access to the same class of willow as used by these international icons?
I also spoke to J S Wright and Sons and expressed my wish to buy a cleft from the batch that's reserved for Sachin Tendulkar but they won't promise anything.
BTW.. during a work related trip to South Africa a couple of months ago, I checked out a couple of B and S bats at a retail outlet in Jo'burg, and found them to be quite decent.

GM + tends to be bigger and thicker in tems of widthe and I believe there profile is big as well. You remember the GM Icon 808 bat pictures I posted few days ago? That was normal GM bat but if you see Majid Bhai's you will notice it is quite bigger and thicker compare to that normal GM

Well.. if u love C6+ and can afford one... then u can go ahead.
In a good approach towards shopping (for everything) You need to strike a balance between, what you WANT and what you NEED ?
I was curious about 20/20 SPS because it's not your regular size bat... As said before ... the handle is an inch longer and the blade is an inch shorter ,plus Newbery holds a super excellent reputation in world cricket... I am almost sure this 20/20 has an effect ( a good one or a bad one) on your bat speed and reach towards the ball.
C6+ dont interest me much as I have used a few English bats and assume that there will only be a slight difference between what I already know and what I may find out in these very expensive bats.

WANT never ends whereas NEEDS end at some stage so lets dismiss that :)
One of my club mate has UZI and I am not sure which one was it. Its blade was a inch shorter but when he played with it I never saw any difference.
The thing is that I don't really love C6+ as I have never seen one. What I hear from people and if they appreciate a specific item or product it gets over me so I am a confused man. But going budget wise SPS (the one you told me about) fits the best. As my mom told me to buy a bat somewhere near $200 CAD.
I am looking to buy an English bat as I think it is english bat turn because I bought two Pakistani bats soo have to be fair :D Mein Pakistani bats bhai kee marzee phee letaa hoon lekhin mujhe english acha lagtee hain :S
If you could get me a hold of UZI SPS 20/20 for 110 pounds then that would be great and I would be really grateful to you. It is okay to take time as I am in no rush. A week or two or even three is fine.

I agree with you Newbery bats are impressive. One of my club mate in fact the only club mate who has an English bat had Newbery UZI and that bat lasted him 2.5 years. He had never taken care of it so it showed me if he had taken care of it then it would have lasted much more. But he used it ALOT! By alot I mean it. He didn't use it in fact he abused it.
At the end he played across bat shot (toe area) then the wood cracked. I would blamce my club executives for this. They buy poor quality balls so this was suppose to happen

No bouncer I don't have this bat but at the moment Omair Bhai (xbalilur80) does. I am eager to get this bat after watching Razzaq. But am still confused. People who had ASV3 rated this bat very highly. No one was disappointed with it
I think it is something around $120 shipped to Canada so I don't think there will be much of difference. Usman_ash m14 can confirm this as well as he us on verge if getting one
I think he does have long handle. Since he holds the bat from top of the handle he seems to have long handle because there is enough vacant space below the bottom hand that another hand could be added in there

If you really wanted the Razzaq's AS-V3, then you need to get hold of Razzaq and try to buy it from him. This is the only way.
Yesterday, I spoke again to J.S. Wright and Sons and they finally opened it up for me. If you buy a batch of 100 ACTUAL G1+ English Willow clefts (£65 each), chances of getting a single cleft of pro quality is less than 1.

This is custom made from my concept of creating a hybrid between a hard ball and a tennis ball cricket bat. Since the bat may be deemed illegal by ICC rules for having a width of nearly 5 inches, I am bound not to disclose the manufacture's name and obviously he didn't put his stickers on it.
Experienced veterans will know right away as to who made it but I am keeping my lips tight.

If u don't have any proof of international players using different bats from their sponsors then people should not post about them having different bats. Yes Uzair I know abt Yousuf he did briefly used CA and SS bats when his sponsor was GN btw you can say hes using CA/SS because you can see in the pictures.
