Note that I have no idea what pitches to expect in SA but can Ajmal/Afridi and/or Malik prove to be match winners in the 50 over format?

Yes.

However, since this is a 50 over game, more onus will be placed on the bowling unit as a whole. But with the possibility of Asif/Amir/Rana opening the bowling - for the first time an a long time we have the chance of taking some top order wickets, and not rely on Afridi to make the breakthroughs, reduce the scoring rate and rip through the middle order allowing Gul to clean up the tail. If the opening bowlers can apply some pressure, Afridi and Ajmal can control the game.

Spinners love bounce, some say, more than spin. SA pitches will have bounce. So I think spinners will be effective. I dont think pacers will be as important as most are making them out to be, Even though its SA, in ODIs, tracks there can get really flat in terms of sidewyas movement.

So, we might see both Ajmal and Afridi play together.

The Wanderers and Centurion Park are a spinners nightmare. I have not seen the ball turning on these wickets. The most succesful spinner will the the guy who can contain and bowl a good line and length

I think its more than likely that we'll play both of them in every game. How can you drop either one when they've been bowling so spectacularly in tandem? :ajmal

i think afridi and ajmal will have succes in the CT but they need to be backed up by the other bowlers to and work as a unit and not rely on one or two players to do the damage

To me I think Pakistani Spinners will be very crucial in the middle overs .Ajmal , Afridi and Malik are very good spinners and Inshallah they will control the game in the middle overs as they proved against austrlia in 5 odi's .

To be honest, if any international team had the bowling attack (spinners aswell) that Pakistan possess, they wouldn't lose many games at all. Our batting has been, and always will be, the central issue relating to the success of the side.

Spinners wont see any turn, just bounce.

It'll most probably be a nighmare for them, it'll be a real case of variation rather then turn or conventional spinners tactics (and thats only during the day, forget about night time!). It's going to have to be a case of containment, rather then attacking wicket taking.

If Afridi manages to get some drift going ,then he would be lethal again like in the world t20..and I m sure Ajmal would control things like he has been doing it for a year now.

whatever pitch, teams like england, nz, windies and also many players from australia and south africa will struggle against spin.

Ajmal and afridi will be fine. Watch them kill India.

I was actually referring to a lot of posts here, saying that on the bouncy tracks in SA, Ajmal should be dropped and we should play 4 pacers.

Personally, I would play both of them. I think a lot would depend on our new ball bowlers. If they can make early inroads, our spinners ang GUl could be lethal

The bounce factor like many posters have mentioned will aid the spinners. I think both bowlers are capable off doing well aslong as bowlers bowl well in partnerships.

SA has Botha and JP duminy who bowl spin so I guess they wudnt make spinless wickets...

Well Afridi doesn't spin the ball much, he uses his variations and if he gets extra-bounce from the pitch to his advantage to fool the batsmen. So, in my view Afridi will thrive in CT.

Same applies to Ajmal, he bowls a very tight line and his wicket taking delivery is the Doosra.

So I guess spinners will have a good time in CT.

Don't forget the mini teletubby, van der Merwe.

Lol yeah him too SA has a very strong bowling dept, we shudnt forget in 2007 2020 WC afridi took a lot of wickets in SA so out bowling is not the issue and the only I concern I have is our batting. InshahAllah we will do good!!

If you saw the IPL and RSA using 2 spinners successfully against Aussies then Yes, you will have to say that all regular spinners from all sides stand a good chance

they are the true strength of our team IMO...absolutely crucial that they do well, and Inshallah they will get the job done
