we'll finally get to see Shaun Tait, if he's any good then this could be the beginning of the end for Gillespie and McGrath.

Whatever happened to Aaron Bird?

Reckon Ponting thinks his tummy is a little topsy-turvy rite now...

Lee is bowling at 93 MPH or 149 kph and the score is 12-0

DM
25th August 2005, 15:29
woooo, fast by Lee. Let's see what speed Tait has in him....

Mercenary
25th August 2005, 15:45
Tait so far

2nd delivery -- 92.4 MPH
3rd Delivery -- 93.5 MPH

Mercenary
25th August 2005, 15:47
Tait

4th - 89.6
5th - 91.3

1st and 6th speeds not shown

hasanahmad
25th August 2005, 15:47
looks like shoaib akhtar has some aussie competition

DM
25th August 2005, 15:49
Woohoooo, great pace in his first over by Tait, but this wicket is DEAD - Gilchrist's taking fiery Tait and Lee's deliveries around his knees. This looks like a very high scoring pitch.

Mercenary
25th August 2005, 15:50
to be bowling 93 mph in his first over is very impressive. lets see if he gets faster or slower as the match goes on.

DM
25th August 2005, 15:50
Tait bowled some inaccurate stuff except one swinging delivery which was brilliant - that's the danger of a man of such high pace

hasanahmad
25th August 2005, 15:51
anyone know the fastest debut over in cricket?

hasanahmad
25th August 2005, 15:51
Rodney Marsh said his bouncer is the deadliest he has seen since lillee

taits second over

3rd -- 87.4 mph
4th -- not shown
5th -- 90.4 mph
6th -- 91.4 mph (no ball)
6th -- 92.1 mph

he's early 90's but is also getting battered

DM
25th August 2005, 15:58
Tait got an absolute battering in county cricket for Durham last year, played just 2 matches - 6 overs 0 for 63, and 12 overs 0 for 113! Insane! But when he went back to Australia he produced the 2nd most successful season in Aussie cricket ever in terms of wicket taking - he took 65 wickets!

Jedi Knight
25th August 2005, 15:59

Nauman
25th August 2005, 16:29
70/0 I think might be a bit higher then that, the pitch is so bad that I am loosing interest in the game as quickly as the interest was built up.

Asim2Good

The Strauss dismissal was a bit freakish.

Lee's no ball was clear though, a good 4 or 5 inches over.

We have no balls?

mulan
25th August 2005, 17:07
Does anyone knows how many no-balls so far! Everybody always throws tantrums at Pakistan's bowlers bowling no-balls...This is disgusting by the Aussies...

They don't look like a tight unit anymore...frayed edges coming loose...

Good first session for the English. Aus will have to come back with a bang after lunch...

Rob H
25th August 2005, 17:17
18 no balls so far mulan

Asim2Good

The way the Aussies are playing the Ashes are going soon. England playing very nicley and deservedly on top.

mulan
25th August 2005, 17:36
I dunno...if the track is playing as flat as everyone's saying, then I predict another draw...unless there's a major batting collapse by either team...

Hash
25th August 2005, 17:43
track is definitely very flat. High scoring draw this game unless someone does something special.

alghazzali
25th August 2005, 17:51
The Aussies second attack is no better than the current Pakistan attack in my opinion.

KB
25th August 2005, 18:12
I have not seen any of the action. But even if it is a flat pitch, a scoring rate of 4.78 is quite high. And that's the problem for Australia without Mcgrath. They lack control.

Kashif
25th August 2005, 18:19

Flintoff gets off the mark

Rob H
25th August 2005, 22:25
Why don't Flintoff and Pietersen get on one knee and slog sweep ponting? He's pitching it on the length to play the shot.

Rob H
25th August 2005, 22:33
Crunching 4 from Freddie

iZeeshan
26th August 2005, 02:24
Finally...I'd say a horrible performance from England. Without McGrath, England should at least be able to make 450. Well its not exactly horrible, but could have been better.

Plus, Ponting is not being taken advantage of. He should be slogged out of the park!

Daoud
26th August 2005, 04:58
I cant really blame England for not scoring more. The constant starting and stopping due to rain means that a batsman has to start all over again when they come back. Very damaging for rhythm

Rob H

Now watch how the Aussies come asking for introducing technology.

Hey how about returning the favour when u visit Pakistan this year ?

Anyway, Aleem Dar may have got one wrong but some of his other decisions speak of greatness to come - esp his no balling Lee when he thought he had a wicket - loved the expression changing on the faces of players as they realized that it was a no ball! Lets all raise one for Aleem - the future of umpiring !

I am not sure if he will ever proove his doubters wrong BUT Imran Khan took almost 6 years to become a great bowler...maybe Sami's time has finally come fater the surgery and all. He did bowl well in India

At the rate at which Australia are going, it'll be down to their premier batsman, Glenn McGrath, to save them.

Since McGrath's not playing, Aussies lose!

Gilly taking the attack to the English. That's the way it should be down. I personally feel he was too circumspect in the first innings, indeed this entire series so far.

Australian must respond in the way they do best; counter-attacking.

This is off-topic, but might I add, this is why I feel somebody like Afridi is so important to Pakistani cricket.

50 for langer...! shockingly its just one of a few 50s thus far in series for aussie batsmen..

Daoud
27th August 2005, 20:11
Apart from Langer and Clarke, the rest of the Aussie batsmen havent even looked to be Test standard in the series. OK Ponting got a century but hes done jack in his other innings and Martyn has had a few shockers, but regardless, their batting has been well below par. Plus Gilly hasnt been able to counter attack as the Poms have been bowling to a plan thats working wonders

Pathan007

Vaughan has made a mistake. He should have chose to bat, get a lead of 500+ and make Aus bat second on a deterioting pitch...if Aus get a lead of 250-300, Warne is gona make them struggle.

Punter got the timing of that spat all wrong, Pratt was on the field for the genuinely injured Jones just as Hodge was for Clarke at Old Trafford.

We missed Jonah in the second innings :(

Punter got the timing of that spat all wrong, Pratt was on the field for the genuinely injured Jones just as Hodge was for Clarke at Old Trafford.

The 12th man was quite legitimate in this case as Jones injury was for real.

However, in general, through the summer England have been taking the p1ss with the use of the 12th man.

Daoud

Should Ponting be punished for his actions though? I didnt see it, but he did come across as a whinging idiot

Rob H

Aussies only 30 behind. Trevor Penney on the field as 12th man. He could get some run outs :)

Billy

Gilchrist's up and running.

Not good.

KB
28th August 2005, 17:24
Just from the few deliveries he faced, it seemed that Gilchrist was trying to make a concerted effort to keep the bat straight rather than open the face which he did in the first innings.

Billy
28th August 2005, 17:30
Still got beaten by the second to last ball though..

Should be interesting.

KB

Onlt the two slips and gully in...for England's sake I hope one does not go through the 3rd slip area.

KB
28th August 2005, 17:50
Interesting thing about Flintoff's bowling around the wicket to Gillchrist is, that he gets the ball to swing away irrespective of whether it is a new ball or old ball. In other words he does it with conventional and reverse swing.

Was a good appeal by Harmison. Unfortunately Dar will be castigated for one bad decison in a great year for him.

But I dont understand one thing. Agreed that aus are finally seeing their fall as cricket champs, but how can they fall so quickly? I mean they've gone from winning like crazy to losing almost every test in the Ashes. Shouldn't they be atleast drawing some of their series before really losing it.

It has surprised me to see Australia slump so quickly and take such a sharp plunge.

If yes, then cant you see that it is England that are over-powering the Aussies in every facet of the game in this series. Aus are only playing as well as Eng are allowing them to.
