IF these idiots can't fix these trivial and small issues than they really should be shot dead. I really don't get PML(N) stand on this issue,
I meant NWFP instead of Pakthonkhwa

it is a constitutional issue and PPP and its allies need a 2/3 majority in Parliament and senate to change this.

That's a hypocritical stance, if Punjabis can have a province called Punjab, Sindhies can have sind and Balouchis can have Balouchistan than Why can't pakthoons have Pakthonkhwa

If you read some history of that area you will find it was part of Afghanistan. The british divide it to punish afghans who they could not defeat in war.
And what is your logic of against renaming it? Do you belong to that area? If the people of that area want it changed then who are you to object?
Btw I like Afghania name too. But its for the people of that province to decide.

I'm fine with whatever People want to call their respective lands and Pakistani Political Parties should respect that, As for Saraikis and Urdu Speakers they don't have a Province right now, so it doesn't really make sense on debating on that. Why can't they just hold referendum and let people decide.

The people of NWFP did not say we demand a name change.
The people of NWFP did not have a referendum as to whether the name should change.
The people of NWFP had/ve no say what so ever on this issue.
You cant just go about changing the name of places/things just because you want to.
As for Afghania, its not part of Afghanistan. The people in NWFP identify themselves as Pakistani. Pakistan was india once, if Ghadari wanted to re-name Punjab or Sindh 'indania' would that be fine?

ANP and PPP are the representatives of NWFP and they have been demanding this. ANP strongly believes in changing NWFP's name. "NWFP" doesn't even make sense.

Then what about people who aren't Punjabis, Sindhis, Balochis or Pakhtoons...say...Mahajirs?
You see what I did there. You can't say that the provinces are based on ethnicities bro, it will cause problems. All of Pakistan is open to everyone.
Btw Punjab = land of five rivers NOT land of Punjabis.

NWFP name is an insult to people of that province. The british wants to insult afghans as much as possible because they were the only ones who gave them hard time.
although I respect that ANP is elected in power and have every right to change the province's name because people of that province have voted for them; I thinks a referendum will definitely make the transition smoother and non-controversial.

As of now, there are only 4 provinces, when we have a fifth Province we can debate on that

If there were to be a referendum and the people of Sarhad were ti say 'yes we want the name changed' then fair enough.
The ANP cannot just go around changing this that and the other randomly like that. Its part of the elected government in NWFP granted but there are some things which need to be taken without the red-tape.

I agree.
NWFP = North West Frontier Province - i.e. a purely administrative name.
The people of that province deserve to choose and decide what they want to call their province.

You forgot Hindko speaking. we should get part of punjab, part of NWFP and give it our own name.

Punjab: panj-āb, "five waters" is Persian in origin.
Sindh: The province of Sindh and the people inhabiting the region had been designated after the river known in Ancient times as the Sindhus River, now also known by Indus River. In Sanskrit, síndhu means "river, stream" [Wikipedia].
Both names are geographic.
Renaming the NWFP as Pakthonkhwa is playing ethnic politics and will cause future problems as other groups want to follow suit. What's wrong with Sarhad, it'a a lot easier to say as well!

why is that ANP who try to shout at every opportunity about their secularism wants to divide a province on basis of ethnic lines.. I think provinces in Pakistan need to be split anyway on basis of population for better governance and accountability but unfortunately vested interests of a few individuals would prevail.

Forget the PML-N, why the hell is any party pushing this non-issue forward at this time?

Only ANP want to rename it. Most of the people in Province speaks Hindko and are not Pakhtons. Only few cities are Pakhtons.
Province should be renamed with full consent of all province people not by only ANP.

Agree with Wazeeri.
There are far more important issues in our country than names.

I said it was a trivial issue but ANP has been Pushing this for a long time and this will become more important if PML(N) and PPP wants their support to change 17th amendment.
Then again the way this stupid Pakthoon nationalist party has treated Pakthoon Refugees from South Waziristan is simply horrible.
